Calls mount for criminal probe of Trump call to Georgia official

Christopher Wilson
·Senior Writer

State and federal officials have called for investigations into whether President Trump violated election laws — or possibly committed other crimes — in his Saturday phone call to Georgia’s secretary of state.

A recording of the one-hour call was released Sunday by the Washington Post. The president is heard pressuring Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, to “find 11,780 votes” that would put him in the lead over President-elect Joe Biden in Georgia, which has already certified its results.

Trump also threatens Raffensperger with the possibility of criminal charges unless he comes up with the votes to overturn the election results.

Wouldn't we LOVE to see this justice done to Trump as a perfect coup de grace to his miserable presidency!

BREAKING: BRAVO!!! A group of House Democrats are asking FBI Director Wray to open a criminal investigation into President Trump after a leaked phone call showed him pleading with Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger to overturn his state's election despite ZERO evidence of fraud.

  2. We the People of the United States have spoken and We the People of the United States expect our Senators and Representatives to do their duty. The did (supposed to have) sworn an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States just as those of us who have been in military service did. Joe Biden was won the popular vote. He won 306 electoral votes in accordance with laws of the individual states. Those states have certified their votes and assigned electors in accordance with the Constitution. Those electors have cast their votes in accordance with the Constitution. Now it is the duty of Congress to count the electoral votes (I am sure the Democrats all know how to count. I'm not sure of the Republicans) and allow the sitting Vice President -- Mike Pence at present to declare Joe Biden President Elect. Four years ago two Democrat Representatives objected to the count in Ohio. The sitting Vice President at that time -- what was his name again --declared those Representative out of order and declared Donald Trump to be the President Elect -- OH Yes. I remember what that sitting Vice President" name was. It was Joe Biden.

  3. In any other democratic nation, this would be viewed as treason...an attempted coup. This blatant attempt to subvert the will of the people and change the election results should have been immediately and universally condemned by every member of the house and senate. That it has not, demonstrates the sham that the USA is the shining beacon of democracy for the world. We are now officially one of those banana republics.

  4. The House should impeach Trump again. And make the GOP go on record saying his behavior is just fine.

When asked about recording Trump, the Sec State of GA said he felt he had to after Lindsey Graham lied about his call asking for the vote to be changed.

The bloggers are still mad at Trump being recorded, the tape leaked, this being reported and claiming it is all Fake News. And oh yeah, what about -H- and Obama?

  6. We don't want to impeach the idiot now. Pence would become president and pardon him. Wait until Jan 21st to arrest his ass.

  7. WOW! I never thought a guy with the name "Trump" would be America's first MOB BOSS!

President Trump on Monday targeted Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) a day after the senator said he would not join an effort to object to the certification of Electoral College votes affirming Joe Biden as the next president.

"How can you certify an election when the numbers being certified are verifiably WRONG,” Trump tweeted, suggesting he would falsely claim during his rally in Georgia on Monday night that he was a true winner of the election despite multiple audits and court cases confirming Biden had won and that Trump claims lacked standing.

"@SenTomCotton Republicans have pluses & minuses, but one thing is sure, THEY NEVER FORGET!” Trump added.

"My god. Listen to that whole tape. We are clearly in the Vincent (The Chin) Gigante chapter of this national crime drama. The president* should be appearing on the Truman Balcony in a bathrobe any day now."

  9. Joining Trump on the call were White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows; lawyer Cleta Mitchell, a prominent right-wing lawyer who had managed until now to keep her participation in Trump’s efforts to overturn the election quiet; and lawyer Kurt Hilbert. Meadows was more reasonable than Trump, but he, too, asked Raffensperger “to look at some of these allegations to find a path forward that’s less litigious.” (Raffensperger replied: “[w]e don’t agree that you have won.”)

Mitchell and Hilbert backed Trump and Meadows in their repeated demand for information about voters, including their voter IDs and registrations. This is voter data to which, by law, they cannot have access. (When Germany answered that the state is prohibited from sharing that information, Trump retorted: “Well, you have to.”)

  10. Shaw, Dave, RN.....Those familiar with
Trump's type of mental disease that I
chat with occasionally posit that Trump's
narcissism prevents him from seeing and
dealing with reality: In his mind, he won.

No amount of proof or facts can make a
difference to a mentally disturbed "mind".
His illness will not allow reality to intrude
upon his fantasy. This emperor, truly,
    Has NO Clothes. At All.

Covid-19, Civil unrest, none of that matters,
because it's contrary to the fantasy image
Trump has of himself, in his head.

He will not, indeed, can not allow
anything to conflict with that image.
    Everything good, Trump has done.
Everything bad, it's Someone Else's Fault,
    and NOT Donald Trump, because
Donald Trump is always right, and good.

The Stupid is strong with this one, but
as you said, Shaw, it always HAS been.

For myself, I really do think Trump will
rabbit; he will run, because, along with
his mental illness, he's a coward at heart.
I keep thinking that he'll flee to Russia, as
    Greedwald did, although there's probably
other places that would take him and what
    little money he has...

Would Trump fleeing to Putin in Moscow
deter any of his cult, if it were shown,
in truth and in fact, that Trump was a
    Russian agent posing as POTUS?

    Probably not, I suppose.
They've already drank the grape Kool-Aid,
    and asked for seconds....

  11. Anonymous I suppose that his malignant narcissism is a mental illness and his, like his cultists', refusal to face reality is tearing this country apart. Trump told us he would probably not accept the results of the election if he lost, and here we are.

This is the first in my lifetime to see such a disgusting display of narcissism and hatred for our American democracy in a sitting president.

On January 20th we will be rid of this despicable scourge on our country!

  12. Dave, Rocco, Mike,

Nixon resigned because his party refused to stand by his corruption.

Trump leaves office with most Republicans in Congress not only supporting him despite his crimes but trying to keep him in power illegally.

It’s the difference between a corrupt president and a corrupt party.

  13. What makes Trump dangerous? He is president of the United States. He will no longer hold that position in 2-1/2 weeks.
We prolong the bullshit by highlighting and commenting on every bit of crap he says after he leaves office. We are prolonging his slime by keeping his name on the front page.
We should give him the silence treatment as soon as he is no longer president. Lock the child in his room. We just don't want to hear him anymore. Stop giving him what he wants, attention.

That's up to the media. But since Trump is such a negatively compelling character, I predict he'll still be bothering us even after he leaves the presidency.

  15. I just read that before Trump's rally in Georgia tonight, they played Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Here are the lyrics:

"...Too late, my time has come
    Sends shivers down my spine
    Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody - I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth..."

Good choice by Trump's staff. LOL!

  16. Well!

NBC: Secret Service making contingency plans in case Trump will not leave the White House on Jan 20.
They will not physically remove him. Biden will govern from Blair House. The SS will cut off all utilities to the White House - water, electricity, food delivery and wait it out.

Progressive Eruptions has approximately 12 regular readers. Twelve. And maybe another dozen who pop in to comment now and then. That's maybe 24 people who come here. None of whom are Donald Trump. He doesn't get attention from coming here and reading P.E.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I suspect it's rather more than twelve. Remember, only a small fraction of regular readers ever comment.

I'm sure you're right that Trump doesn't read it. If he did, he'd have sent Giuliani to drip hair color on you or something. He couldn't help himself.

  21. I said, you and the MILLIONS of other bloggers who post daily, Trump's filth. What will you post about after January 21st? Will it be Trump and the shit he will continue to spew until the day he dies? It's time to geyt off Trump and quit giving him the attention he seeks.

  22. Anonymous, I'm pretty sure Donald Trump doesn't spend any of his time reading blogs, and definitely not mine. He's a FAUX NOOZ, Newsmax, and OAN consumer of news about himself.

I'm curious why you're so insistent on advising me on why I shouldn't write about Trump when Trump doesn't read my blog.

I started this blog in 2005 as a sort of diary to document what's happening in the world of politics and other subjects. Since it's a free platform run by Google, it's also public, and anyone can read what I write if they find me.

As I said, I have at least 12 regulars (one of them, Infidel753 said there may be more since many reader "lurk" but don't comment.) And maybe 12 others who pop in now and again. Some of the regulars from the past have switched to facebook, and I read them there and comment on their pages, but they don't come here anymore, since we communicate on fb.

I also have several trolls from far right blogs who visit me regularly to show off their terrible writing skills. But they never get published.

Trump will continue to get attention from the media because it sells and he will be, after all, a former POTUS, and will probably try to sow as much discord and make as much trouble as he has as POTUS.

Maybe, if we're lucky, he'll spend the rest of his destructive life playing golf and leaving us alone.

    Happy New Year.

  23. I really don't think Donald Trump CAN read...
Remembering all that crap he spourted as
Birther-In Chief? How he HAD Obama's birth certificate?
How he had SOLID, REAL PROOF?
...and how all of his crap was a lie?

So, this really isn't Trump's fault. He was
    a liar and con-man before he was POTUS;
the GOP wanted him as Prez, and so we all got
after 8 years by Mr Obama, 4 years of outright
    CRAP by the Mango Mussolini.

Oh and almost a half million dead Americans...

Shaw, isn't there some kind of spray that drives away
idiots and morons? A DumpTrump spray bomb, like
for roaches...something for big orange roaches with
delusions of grandeur? There's gotta be something....

  24. It's not a matter of Trump reading your blog, but promoting all his shit everyday as millions of other blogs also do. There is an obsession with Trump as seen by news outlets, blogs, newspapers, etc., etc...... You are taking this as something personal. It is not. I point out that you are one of millions obsessed with all things Trump. In two weeks it won't matter what he says, but I'm sure I will continue to read about Trump every day all over media. Sad.

  25. Anonymous,

You know me only through this blog. You don’t know what I am interested in or do with the rest of my days after I’ve spent a few minutes putting up a post or answering comments here

I have a wonderfully full life, despite the restrictions due to Covid-19.

Believe me, I’m not obsessed with Trump. I have a wonderful, talented, loving, and interesting man in my life, and we share the best of times together. And Trump has nothing to do with it. Believe me.

Take time off from reading blogs and listening to cable news ( I cut the cable a year ago, so I don’t have CNN, MSNBC, etc. to listen to, only PBS).

After January 20, Trump will not be the center of attention because he’ll be just another ex-president. Hallelujah!!!!

  28. LOL utilities being cut off to the White House. Not sure if this is a true story, though. I Googled and found it on Twitter. NBC News Correspondent Tom Winter responds, writing "This is not a story that NBC News has at all reported".

I heard Dotard is going to be in Scotland on January 20th. And possibly fly from there to a county he can't be extradited from :|
