Pope Leo XIV is actually American-Peruvian, since he has Peruvian citizenship and spent 20 years in that country. In fact Pope Leo XIV has spent most of his life outside the US.

DeleteMaybe, since tRump exclaimed he was going to help Make America Religious Again, the Cardinals wanted to help him realize that statement in reality and they thought an Americn Pope would be a good thing in helping that effort become reality.
