The roots of rot and decay in the current executive branch of our government is thick and deep. As the scum of the tRump administration continues to metastasize the vile and unethical activities of the Amerikan Fascist Party (tRumpublican) will increase and become more egregiously unconstitutional and unethical/immoral.
What most people want to know is when the democrats are going to open the government. Many of them, obama, clinton, reid, biden, -H-, jeffries have said never shut down the government and pass a clean CR to fund the government so we can negotiate, this has happened 13 times in the last four years three years were under biden. Looks like this is to punish trump and the American people. The democrats have no message and no plan except we are going to punish the American people and try to blame the republicans, Good Job.
The dems make this about obamacare but there are far more issues the dems want including HOV lanes for electric vehicles.
Um, I don't see anything in my post about a shutdown, do you, skud? But I acknowledge your eagerness to come here and blame the Democrats.
However:
"The deluge of statements bashing Democrats began hours before the shutdown Tuesday with a single red pop-up posted to the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s website. “The radical left are going to shut down the government,” the page read.
By Wednesday morning, handfuls of other agencies had already followed suit — alerting Americans that the government had officially shut down — and that President Donald Trump’s political rivals were responsible.
And in an email obtained by POLITICO, the Small Business Administration circulated a template for automated out-of-office emails for furloughed employees, encouraging workers to adopt the messaging placing responsibility for the shutdown on Democrats."
It's almost as if the Trumpublicans knew in advance that the Democrats would not sign onto a CR that threatened and endangered healthcare coverage for millions of Americans, and then coordinated the various federal government departments to blame the Democrats, which is probably illegal. But IMO, the entire 2nd Trump Regime is lawless, so who's surprised that they'd stoop to this sort of lawlessness just to "own the 'DEMONcrats?" Eh?
But thanks for bringing it up and solidifying the fact that you are definitely a loyal Trump administration supporter.
It's also good to know who the people are that are eager to see Trump, a criminal POTUS who is considering pardoning a notorious pedophile, succeed in fundamentally changing what this country was once admired for.
We're not "headed for authoritarianism government," we're there.
Sit back and enjoy it, skud. So long as you and yours are not affected by inhumane cuts to the budget that will harm and in some cases possibly kill hundreds and hundreds of your fellow Americans, I'm sure you'll continue to advocate for the criminal in the Midas-touched Oval Office.
The delusional, and yes ignorant beliefs as believed and embraced by skud and the cult are intended to dismantle our republic, replace democracy with fascist authoritarianism, and install the president as a dictator.
The forces of delusion and ignorance are very strong in tRump's Amerika. As well as running very deep.
This nation is in decline. The forces facilitating our decline will continue pressuring the narcissist prez (Fuhrer) to accelerate the dismantling of the rejpublic.
Because the fascists are reinterpreting the Constitution and they, for goid reason are not worried about a thing. Why? Because they know most Americans don't know what's in their own constitution and won't bother to check.
K Pop: Demon Hunters has been playing in my brain all day. Annoying yes, but there are worse soundtracks.
So, Pam, she of the questionable integrity. Yep, it looks bad because it is bad.
Uncheck power, patina of legality, cruelty above and beyond, demonizing one's opponents, yep, we check all the boxes for authoritarianism.
That said, one of the lessons of K Pop: Demon Hunters is that if old protections don't fit the here/now then the old must be replaced with new protections. And the movie did it with a soundtrack that is infectious.
Our claims of liberty and equality for all never applied to all. Too many humans slipped through the cracks or even worse were tossed into those cracks because only males of a very pale hue were historically allowed access to levers of power.
We must do better because we know better.
Again I know it's bad out there and it doesn't help that MAGA is just full of themselves. They take joy from our anger and dismay when immigrant grandparents, parents, and children are yanked from their lives and deported to places unknown, throwing their work, money, and time invested in becoming a citizen into those aforementioned cracks. And creating new enemies as the teaching stories predict. You think a kid terrorized in Chicago will ever recover from that trauma? Plays have been written over less transgressions.
The French have some very good advice for us. WeThePeople need to protest every day to bring about change. With so many out of work either through the DOGE firings or our government shutdown that day may be closer than anyone can predict. Add in the ripples of restaurants losing customers, hospitals closing, and retail sales stalling; the costs will add up quickly.
Side note: I'm not saying things aren't going to get worse. It is the nature of a bully and dictator (paging S. Miller, 5 minutes to curtain) to escalate every situation and worse is the only speed they know. However, the raid on that building in Chicago is attracting unexpected attention.
What do I mean? Follow the money, always follow the money. It's weird how the buildings raided by ICE in both Aurora, Colorado and Chicago, Illinois were both owned by slumlords facing foreclosure or fines by their respective cities but once ICE raided the place and removed all the occupants each property was quickly sold off to developers, almost as if by magic.
Ms. Shaw, But why won't the democrats vote in favor of a clean CR like they have done for the last four years and 12-13 times. The purpose of the CR is to give the elected elite time to create the best deal for them to increase their wealth and still blame the other side for increasing the deficit. I know in your mind it is all the republicans fault for everything but in this case both sides are holding the American public hostage.
There are no cuts to the CR, none so your swipe at the poor losing their healthcare is not true. If the new budget gets passed that may happen but to keep the government open with no changes makes sense. I am for making the government more efficient and that will probably result in a smaller government workforce. I thing we should start with congress and cut the senate and house in half but not sure that would work. Just like term limits and not profiting from inside information which is protects by the protected crooks act.
skud: "There are no cuts to the CR, none so your swipe at the poor losing their healthcare is not true."
Again, skud, I don't know where you get your information, but apparently you're not getting the full story -- the truth:
I did not write that healthcare would be "cut," I wrote that the CR "...threatened and endangered healthcare coverage." And THAT is TRUE. Under the CR, healthcare premiums would double, which in many cases, would be unaffordable for millions of Americans, so they would lose their healthcare.
"Some Republican lawmakers objected to Democrats’ push to include an extension of the expanded Affordable Care Act premium subsidies in a short-term funding bill and cited concerns about long-term spending. Democratic leaders countered that the subsidies are not a new demand but rather the continuation of a program that has helped keep record numbers of Americans insured since the pandemic – and therefore that the issue could not be delayed.
The result is a standoff that blends fiscal and policy disagreements – a hallmark of contemporary budget politics.
As experts in health law, we see this issue as simple but consequential from a legal standpoint. Congress authorized the enhanced subsidies in 2021, originally to cushion the economic fallout from COVID-19 for families, and extended them through 2025 in the Inflation Reduction Act.
Without new legislation, the subsidies revert to pre-2021 levels on Jan. 1, 2026 – which would lead to a jump in the cost of health insurance and would make coverage unaffordable for millions of Americans.
[skip]
What happens if subsidies expire?
Analysts broadly agree that returning to the pre-2021 rules would mean large cost increases and coverage losses. On average, the premiums that Americans will pay for ACA marketplace plans would more than double. The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that average annual out-of-pocket premiums for an individual would jump from about $888 in 2025 to $1,900 in 2026.
With these increases, millions of Americans will lose their health insurance coverage. The Urban Institute, a think tank, projects that 7.3 million fewer people would receive subsidized marketplace coverage and 4.8 million more would become uninsured.
This is highly consequential, as research shows that insurance coverage saves lives by ensuring access to care. Knocking nearly 5 million people off insurance may cause as many as 500 additional deaths per year.
Losses would disproportionately impact low- and middle-income families. Free premium plans would disappear. Those making below 250% of the federal poverty level could see their net premiums rise more than fourfold, while those between 250% and 400% would see their premiums double. What’s more, rural Americans, already under pressure from the state of the economy, face higher risks."
Between the fact the Americans pay twice per patient what civilized nations pay, and enjoy significantly lower lifespans, and the fact that Americans seem happy to sit by and watch Trump commit his atrocities while citizens around the globe are protesting fascism, it seems Americans are crazy.
IT'S TIME DEMOCRATS HOLD THE LINE. LET THE tRUMPUBLICANS FACE THE WRATH OF VOTERS WHEN THE RED STATES CRUMBLE DUE TO tRUMP'S IGNORANCE and VINDICTIVNESS. THE SUFFERING OF AMERICANS WILL BE THE DIRECT RESULT OF PROJECT 2025 and THE IDIOT president.
Shouldn't your skepticism of Ms. Bondi's integrity also accompany all surplus salaried individuals? Mine does. In fact, I'm so skeptical of them that I believe, as does Catherine Liu, that today they constitute an entire class of people (a professional managerial class) who do the bidding of Capital in exchange for their surplus salaries.
My skepticism belongs right where I put it. Pam Bondi is a partisan hack who's probably committed a number of crimes while acting as Trump's AG, and possibly before that. We hope she ends her shameful career like Nixon's AG, John Mitchell, did.
Bondi was Florida's AG when Epstein & Maxwell were running their sex-trafficking/rapist business out of Palm Beach. When a massive child sex ring was taking place in Florida, Bondi did NOTING to pursue Epstein or his co-conspirator Maxwell. Even after the Miami Herald released a bombshell report in November 2018 that “identified about 80 women who say they were molested or otherwise sexually abused by Epstein” involving a “cult-like net of underage girls” recruited in various parts of Florida--Bondi did NOTHING! If a newspaper like the Miami Herald could find that out, certainly Bondi as AG had even more resources to investigate. The investigation into the Epstein sex-trafficking ring was initiated by prosecutors in New York.
Why didn't Bondi investigate child the sex-trafficking/rapist business in Palm Beach? Can you answer that?
In 2011, Bondi happily accepted Trump's $25,000 "contribution" to her re-election campaign when she was serving as attorney general of Florida. Her office declined to investigate allegations of fraud against his for-profit school after receiving that "contribution" from Trump.
Your attempt to throw sand into the discussion about Bondi will go nowhere here.
Her performance yesterday was an outrageous example of the rot that permeates Trump's regime.
The stench of Trump will follow Bondi for eternity in the history books.
That certainly exists within the capitalist system that has supported the empire. So, destroy predatory capitalism and replace it with democratic socialism, single payer universal Healthcare, and a co presidency supported by a congress truly representative of the people.
The current weaponization of the DOJ and desired weaponization of the military against its own citizens must stop and must stop now. It is dictatorial and it is fascism in its raw ugliness Thersites, -FJ, Joe Con, and the rest of the stable of alter egos.
GOP Rep MTG spoke the truth yesterday. She stated, factually, since the rates came out Oct 1, that her adult kids, who get their health insurance on the ACA or Obamacare exchanges, will be facing large increases in premiums.
in every single southern state, insurers are asking for at least 29% increases in premiums. What will happen, as MTG has pointed out, is many, unable to afford the increases will choose to forgo insurance.
None of this per se is connected to the requested increase in the debt, and the GOP has said they will negotiate with Dems about this after a clean CR is passed. However Speaker Johnson has poisoned the well by lying in the past, as explained by some of his own party's members.
So should Dems trust a GOP leader to actually negotiate when there are those within his own party who don't trust him?
One last thought for the Skuds of the world. As Minority Leader McConnell was happy to point out as he gummed up the workings of the Obama Admin, one party controls all the levers of power, the GOP.
The question really needs to be why they are unable to pass a budget, appropriation bills and a CR without the Dems?
"GOP Rep MTG spoke the truth yesterday. She stated, factually, since the rates came out Oct 1, that her adult kids, who get their health insurance on the ACA or Obamacare exchanges, will be facing large increases in premiums."
Must we wait for Trump's policies to affect his MAGA supporters before they all wake up to what he's doing to us? MTG (good for her in this instance) is talking about how people's healthcare premiums will double or more if the CR is passed without the changes the Dems want in it.
She's upset because this will affect her family. The soy farmers complained about Trump's tariffs because they lost their markets -- Trump's policies affected their pockets.
Do I understand this correctly? The only time our fellow Americans will speak out against draconian laws and policies by the Trump administration is if affects them?
What happened to the Biblical "Am I my brother's keeper?" Spoken by Cain after he killed his brother? I understood it to mean we all are responsible for the well-being of others and should show them compassion and care.
Isn't the broader narrative of that Christian teaching the affirmation that people are indeed their "brother's keeper," emphasizing a duty to love and serve one another, and looking out for one'sown wellbeing AS WELL AS ONE'S NEIGHBOR? If I remember my catechism from my childhood correctly, that's part of Christianity's teaching, is it not?
Where is that in this administration that pretends to adhere to a Christian ethos? Is it all just for show to get the Evangelicals to vote for them?
I suppose those could describe what we saw yesterday, but they give Ms. Bondi's performance too much credit.
The words I would use are petulant, immature, irresponsible, corrupt. Bondi put forth several hours of "I know you are but what am I" level discourse, acting like a middle school brat while attempting to evade and cover up real questions of corruption in the administration.
