Does anyone actually believe the Trumpublicans will protect Americans on the ACA? I don't. Their leader is a con artist and liar. Why would ANYONE trust Trump and his lackeys?
When winning at any cost is considered the ONLY virtue a nation gets DJT.
Truth, integrity, and common decency, when standing in opposition to the narcissistic desires of an ignorant deluded fool, means nothing and therefore is considered the enemy of the people.
This nation had better wake up soon and dump trump and his army of fascist insurgents whose ONLY real goal is to destroy the republic and the democracy it is founded on.
After the 8 spineless dems threw in the towel last night the ACA is dead. EXACTLY the REASON tRumpublicns would have kept it down AS LONG AS IT TOOK to get what they've always wanted.
The democratic party is as useless as the tRumpublican party.
It does show the hate the democrats have for trump. Now that the schumer shutdown is about over what did he accomplish. He did punish the American people and inconvenienced millions of people, made the people in need suffer. What did he and the democrats accomplish except we hate trump. Ms. Shaw, has anyone died because ACA may go away someday. The pain and suffering is anxiety driven by the liberal media and the clowns running the DNC.
A majority of the American people disagree with you, skud:
"Republicans shoulder more shutdown blame, as signs of voter irritation with both parties pile up
A new national NBC News poll finds 52% of voters blame Trump and Republicans in Congress for the ongoing shutdown"
And, it's not just the Democrats who are unhappy with Trump and his incompetent administration. Trump's approval is at 37%. That means a whopping majority don't like him and what he's done to our country.
A large majority of Americans, including most Republicans, Democrats, and independents, support extending the enhanced tax credits that help people afford health insurance. Support remains divided along party lines, with Democrats and independents generally viewing the ACA favorably, while Republicans are more likely to view it unfavorably.
It seems to me that your claim that you are an Independent doesn't ring true, since your views expressed here are more aligned with the Trumpublican Party than with Independents.
Real Independents do NOT approve of Trump:
"No prominent pollster had Trump leading among independents at the outset of his term, but these numbers are all moving in a negative direction. But why are independents abandoning the president? The most recent Quinnipiac poll provides some insight.
While independents tend to view the current government shutdown as largely the fault of the Republicans, this is not the issue that apparently galvanizes independents. According to the Quinnipiac survey, the president has hemorrhaged support among independents over his handling of an array of matters ranging from the economy and the deployment of ICE and the National Guard in U.S. cities to tariffs and Russian aggression in the Russia-Ukraine war. On each of those issues, independents disapprove of the job the president is doing by more than a 2-1 margin. They give him only slightly better marks for his attempts to politicize the military, with a net approval rating of -24%."
"ICE agents are receiving paychecks during the government shutdown, including "super checks" that cover lost wages and overtime. This payment is part of the funding provided under the Trump administration's One Big Beautiful Bill." But try getting an airline flight.
Ms. Shaw, We all know that polls are so accurate, just ask -H-. The democrats held the public hostage for forty days, made people depending on government assistance have high anxiety, mess up air travel and cost the airlines and the public billions. What did the democrats get, nothing, zip, nada and the polls say it was the republicans fault. The midterms will be a shift in both houses but that seems to be the way it works.
skud, a poll for who'll win an election vs. a president's approval rating are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
The primary difference is that an election poll specifically asks who a person will vote for to predict an election outcome, while an approval rating poll measures the public's general sentiment about a president's job performance at a specific point in time.
Right now, Trump's approval rating -- Low 40s and 37% -- is how the US rates him at his job, which is POOR!
The Trump shutdown hurt his people more than any group, and they won't forget it. Next, their health care premiums will become unsustainable, and millions of Americans will not be able to afford medical insurance.
This is the legacy of electing an incompetent criminal to lead the US.
Unlike many presidents tump isn't running the country to be popular or to be re-elected so his approval rating is really not a significant event. There are probably more things he does that I disagree with than agree with but it is his attitude and narcissistic behavior that makes him unlikable but not ineffective. His latest give money to everyone from tariffs is a horrible idea, pay down the deficit make more sense but in the end they won't do either. Cut the tariffs to match the country they are applied to and don't use them as a weapon.
Obamacare was an ill conceived program and needs to be overhauled. It got it's namesake publicity but didn't accomplish much. It did show the government was capable of manipulating the public through threats and fines and congress will vote for anything even something the can't read to pass. BTW people were better off with medicaid from years gone. Can the republicans come up with a good healthcare system, yes but will they is in doubt. Our entire healthcare system is broken and needs a total overhaul.
I am still trying to understand how the democrats were not to blame for the shutdown. Their strategy was to keep the government shut down until they got everything they wanted. In other words screw the American people because we lost the election and hate trump. The republicans said keep the government open as it is and we will negotiate. And you do not place blame on the democrats.
skud: "Unlike many presidents tump isn't running the country to be popular or to be re-elected so his approval rating is really not a significant event."
I disagree. Trump's popularity will be a significant factor in the mid-term elections next fall. The recent elections where the Democratic candidates outperformed all of the Republicans they were running against were an indication of how an unpopular president can negatively affect elections.
The American people do NOT like what Trump is doing to our country.
And I disagree with your statement that the Republicans can come up with a health care program. Where is it? Where is the plan? There is none, except to take away or make unsustainable what meager health coverage they do have.
I can't count how many times I see on Facebook families using Go Fund Me to pay for a catastrophic illness or accident! That's a disgrace. All of the civilized nations on the planet managed to have some form of universal health care for their citizens, but American does not?
Why is that?
Can you answer that question?
The ACA was a start and a blueprint for making it universal -- thanks to Republican Mitt Romney. But the billionaire oligarchs who run this country would have none of it. They need the insurance companies so that they can have their 3rd and 4th homes and 2nd super yachts and private jets.
That you and MAGA don't understand this is troubling and is the reason that American families face bankruptcy because of sicknesses and injuries more than the rest of the world.
This is what the Democrats were holding out for. It was not because of "I hate Trump." That's what the Trumpublicans want you to believe so that you will not see the truth of why the Democrats were holding out.
And, apparently, it worked where you're concerned.
And yet the skud's of the nation will continue to follow their demented "leader" over the cliff into further insanity. As the nation continues its descent into ignorance and suffering.
The November election vote was prescient. Utter chaos is no way to run an administration. Considering one year, am pondering how long it will take to bring the USA back into normalcy. ? The clown act grows tedious.
Here is a gobbledygook trump answer to a Laura Ingram question on his "plan" for health insurance:
“I want the money to go into an account for people where the people buy their own health insurance. It’s so good. The insurance will be better. It will cost less. Everybody is going to be happy. They’re going to feel like entrepreneurs. They’re actually able to go out and negotiate their own health insurance.”
I just laughed out loud. Oh yeah, an individual negotiating their health insurance premium with a multi-billion dollar insurance company. That should work out REAL WELL (she says sarcastically)...
So... we all have goals and objectives connected to what we do in life... Trump, the GOP, Dems, all of us.
So let me ask you Skud...
Why do you post here? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the back and forth with you, sometimes. But really, I'm trying to figure out what it is you hope to accomplish with your comments.
Do you want an honest give and take where you and the rest of us seriously present and consider other points of view? Or is there some other reason? Is it to somehow set the record straight? Is it to defend conservatism?
I guess I am in the minority for remembering how and why the American people got the Affordable Care Act, a plan originally created by (then) Gov. Romney. It worked but needed some bolstering to meet the needs of the entire country.
Why modify Gov Romney's plan? Well, at the time the American Health Care system was in a death spiral. A death spiral is when only those needing health care aka the sick made sure to have healthcare coverage. This led to companies facing triple digit premium increases, a lot like what the American people are facing now. The issue was approaching a crisis status leading several teams of folks to work together on a Patient Bill of Rights. However, once congress got involved and moved the ACA through congressional committees the PBR was abandoned.
Look, Healthcare 101 states in order for it to work and not go into a death spiral everyone has to participate because it spreads out the risk. Only sick people means costs are concentrated in one area. Healthy and sick participation guarantees those who are healthy now will be covered when their good health ends. And I've was in the Health Care industry for too long to not have heard all the stories of why a certain person didn't need health insurance until that one fateful day.
Fun fact, once injured or sick back then there wasn't an insurance company that would touch you. You'd be injured, likely unable to work like before and on the hook for millions of dollars in medical bills. Pre-existing condition? Denied. It happened a lot, hence the Patient Bill of Rights and the eventual creation of the ACA.
Now you know where we've been. So when I read skud's slamming of the ACA without a lick of understanding... oooo.... The ACA as it came out of committee wasn't perfect but it was close. And then the grubby handed GOP, led by Mitch (make him a one term president) McConnell told his minions to give the ACA Cinderella stepsisters treatment.
With his approval they ripped and snipped and tore the ACA apart until it barely resembled the original idea. The ACA was scope one with the plan to modify it to meet the needs of the American people as glitches and hiccups were uncovered. But that never happened because the GOP couldn't allow a Black President outshine their awful horrible selves. They still can't. How many times have they tried to repeal the ACA? 60? 70? And to this day they've yet to provide anything that will replace it except the stellar advice of not getting sick or just die.
Our healthcare system of Medicare/Medicaid/ACA is holding on by a shred with Trump sundowning with his story of he'll just give us $2000 and have WeThePeople pay for our own insurance. Premiums are well above $2K already so how does that work exactly? And that doesn't count copays, out of pocket expenses, life time maximums, and if not forced the insurance companies will reinstate excluding anyone with a pre-existing condition.
Here/now I still don't have SNAP. There are whispers on the internet that the emergency funds held in reserve for exactly this sort of situation are missing. Billions of dollars siphoned out with no accountability. No audits. No knowledge of where or when the monies were transferred.
So WeThePeople have no food. We have no health care. Please tell me again how Trump is making America great again? Oh yeah, bringing back the Robber Baron days where corporations could sell 'milk' made of chalk and plaster dust. Mmm... so much winning.
Well... it's over now, at least until January 2026.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone actually believe the Trumpublicans will protect Americans on the ACA? I don't. Their leader is a con artist and liar. Why would ANYONE trust Trump and his lackeys?
