We are no longer living in the America of our parents and grandparents. Trump's goons are in Minnesota, a blue state, which has many, many fewer undocumented immigrants than Texas and Florida, terrorizing and brutalizing anyone they suspect, including American citizens.

DeleteWhat the poster of ChongLy Thao does say is that ICE broke down his door, he was woken up from a nap and stated he had all his papers. ICE didn't care and took him anyway. They drove him around for an hour asking him questions. At one point they stopped and made him get out of the car (again in his underwear and in sub zero windchills). Thao thought he was going to be beat up or shot at this point. They took his photo, fingerprinted him and THEN realized they had the wrong guy. They took him back to his house to THEN review his naturalization papers...

I am beyond happy that folks like our many faced troll are a dying breed. Oh, I know, they've carefully taught their bigotry to anyone unable to escape their sphere of influence, but as I've learned working with rescues what was once taught can be re-taught using love and positive reinforcement for good behavior. Both the Catholic and Lutheran Church were instrumental in bringing the first group of Somali refugees here back in the ninties. Makes sense that future groups would want to settle where there are friendly faces, and Minnesota is full of friendly faces.

This sums up how I feel here/now: Trump won the 2024 election not because of who he is but because of who Americans are and have been since the start. First step to healing is acknowledging we have a problem.
Oh, I know, I know, not all of us but if I'm hearing the BIPOC voices correctly there are enough White folks that if they wanted the system to work differently that difference would already be implemented. That we are still here/now debating issues I heard about when I was a youngster tells me they are correct.
