Dear America,

Your president is a disreputable, exploitative, unethical, morally bankrupt coward. In this nauseating post, the POTUS is actually taking the side of a mother who did not protect her little girl from being raped by her husband, her daughter's step-father. Would anyone ever dream that a POTUS would actually do something as hideously craven as this?

The Republican Party is now and will be forever associated with excusing and amplifying people who side with child rapists.

I would prefer the company of a sewer rat to his.

There are good Republicans who are not MAGA. Governor DeWine is one. So naturally Trump savaged him in his post today, because Trump is a horribly damaged human being. And our country suffers daily from his depravity.

  1. A sick pathetic rapist himself, as well as a pedophile protector, trump is spewing the exact filth one who recognizes his sickness would expect from him. And he spoke exactly as expected.

    1. What does that comment have to do with what Trump wrote on his social media account?

What Trump did was praise the mother who stood by her daughter's rapist! Instead of addressing the subject of this post, you somehow make it about Democrats and woke?

I'm just guessing here, but maybe you can't address what Trump did today because even YOU are shocked at his degeneracy. Trump's behavior shows a severe lack of virtue, ethical standards, or social corruption. and depravity.

What kind of person with ANY moral backbone would praise a mother who favored her daughter's rapist over her own child? How does the mother know what kind of a person Acton turned out to be, since she's had no contact with her for almost 50 years?l Yet Trump believes what that disgusting woman said. Maybe he sees himself in her lack of moral courage. Kindred spirits?

    2. I agreed, the President doubled down on stupid.

As for the sexual abuse, I'm not familiar with the case, but would side with the daughter. The ad was in poor taste, much as the Cornell 7 case represents the opposite kind of stupid.

    3. No -FJ... this is not stupid. This is evil. Stupid is Al Franken taking an ill advised photo with a woman. And the Dems forced him to apologize and resign. As they should have.

Stupid is ppl like you who refuse to acknowledge the damage POTUS Trump has done to the reputation, leadership and position in the world America has held since WWII.

It will take generations for us to repair the damage Trump has done. If we are ever able to do so. Damage stupid ppl like you call a necessary reset.

    5. The post WWII Neoliberal Order is dead, M. Trump didn't kill it, it collapsed of its' own weight two decades ago, when the mega budget deficits started. Evil is THAT system, not calling some dumb but innocent Congressional candidate a liar.

    6. Trump is evil. Period. He is an election interference criminal, liar, abuser of women, pedophile and protector of pedophiles. He is war criminal who orders summary executions of helpless human beings at sea, and would violate laws that forbid shooting shipwrecked people. He has ordered the murders of Venezuelans, Iranians, (including 168 schoolgirls), and is having his unaccountable secret police killing protesters.

He's siding with Putin's war on Ukraine just to make it clear what he thinks of the "neoliberal world order".

And on, and on, and on.

Only fellow sociopaths wouldn't call him evil.

    1. We all know that Donald Trump is a reprehensible human being. But I had no idea of the depth of his stupidity until I read that social media post by him.

I think even a half-witted human being would know enough to NOT praise and promote a mother who did not protect her daughter from her rapist husband, the child's step-father. Apparently Trump's moral depravity and stupidity has no bounds.

  4. Here's the perfect metaphor for the Trump Admin.

Sec Def Hegseth had long coveted the historic globe the General Eisenhower is said to have used to plan D-Day during WWII.

So what did he do? Did he have a plan, hire professionals who knew how to do this and have it delivered to his office?

    Not. At. All.

Hegseth eschewed profession artifact movers, perhaps because it was too expensive or they'd been DOGEd out early in the Trump term.

And of course, like everything else the Trump Admin touches, it was dropped and broken into pieces by the no beard, no weirdos he called to move the globe. And now, like the reputation of the US, our military, our government, the presidency, the economy and more, the Eisenhower globe is also lost.

    Dropped, broken and lost.

    Perfectly Trumpian...

  5. trump has always been that stupid. He is simply showing more vividly who he's always been the more unhinged he becomes. The result of more Americans seeing what an absolute asshole he really is.

  6. Speaking of the Amy Acton story...

Her second husband, Cledith Arthur, was, previously to marrying Acton's mom, accused and indicted for raping his own juvenile daughter from a previous marriage. But he jumped bail on that, "fell in love" with Acton's mom and married her.

Then proceeded to rape Amy when she was 12.

Acton's mom refused to believe any of it.

She is, of course, a piece of work.

But to Trump... Trump is stuck. As are people like Vance and Ramaswamy. They cannot budge on the immorality of all of this. Trump and Vance cannot say immorality of any kind disqualifies someone from public office. Because well... you know.

Thus we have a GOP candidate in Ramaswamy, who can't even take his ad down, no matter how bad it is, because to do so would say morality is a real issue voters should consider.

And so Trump, Vance, Ramaswamy and others have to ignore the immorality of supporting a liar in Acton's mom's case, retraumatizing the victim all over again.

All ultimately because, in the view of some, the Dems elected Biden.

  7. Dave, Maybe, as a country, we should be more concerned having a president who is a felon, marrying your brother is fine and it is OK to kill your kids because you are depressed. Of course we are more concerned with a political ad because politics are the most pressing issue in the country.

    1. There is no publicly confirmed or conclusive evidence that proves U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar married her biological brother.

While the allegation has circulated for over a decade, official reviews, fact-checking organizations, and independent journalistic investigations have repeatedly found the claim to be unsubstantiated.

You provide no evidence for your claim that Rep. Omar married her brother and continue to share a rumor that has not been proven by any legitimate source. How would you like it if people started spreading a rumor about you?

You’re slam at Lindsay Clancy, who was not found guilty of anything. Your statement that reduced what happened to her and her children as a woman who was just depressed so she decided to kill her children, is a hideous unfeeling and cruel thing to say about an unimaginable tragedy.

You seem to be the kind of person that would’ve backed Amy Acton‘s mother. When someone promotes a rumor without evidence about a US representative and then publishes a sneering remark about a horrific tragedy involving a very sick woman, that says more about you than your rumors and nasty opinions about a mentally ill human being.

    2. And then you blithely dismiss one of the Republican Party’s dirtiest campaign ad where Ramaswamy introduced child rape into his campaign; and by implication, blamed a child for her being raped by her step- father.

      Can you go any lower?

    3. Is there a deeper reason, other than willful ignorance, why Skud always parrots the party of pedophile protectors?
I really wouldn't trust him around children. Just think of the terrible lies he would tell them. Since he has no signs of empathy I would hate to imagine what he would do to them.

    5. Dave D., how much more depressing and morally degrading can this Trumpian era we’re living in get? In my lifetime, I would never have imagined a president of the United States supporting a depraved woman who sided with her daughter’s rapist against her flesh and blood. And yet here’s where we are. Again, this is what happens when a country decides to choose a stupid immoral man as its leader.

    6. I wish I could trust the majority of the American public to recognize the fact that liars, criminals, and sociopaths have taken over the Republican Party.

Soon they will control most of our national news media. When that happens the country the founders hoped for will be finished. Even if we decide to water the tree of liberty with the blood of patriots, the criminals will control the military and law enforcement.

We are under the control of sociopaths who lack and mock empathy.

This is where we are now:

"A survey released Tuesday (Oct. 20) found that Republicans and evangelicals increasingly see empathy as a danger that can lead society away from God."

Can you name ONE actual Gospel commandment or teaching of Jesus that the MAGA movement fights for?
      - John Fugalsang, author of "Separation of Church and Hate"

      Love your neighbor
      Feed the poor
      Heal the sick
      Welcome the stranger.

There's nothing Republican Christians hate more than empathy and the teachings of Jesus.

This is the next book I'll be reading:

      CONSERVATISM: AMERICA’S PERSONALITY DISORDER

Conservatives often defend policies that feel hard-hearted. Why?
Christopher Armitage and D. Carl Brown argue the root problem is a
measurable empathy gap, not mere ideology.

Their concise analysis shows how this gap drives positions on poverty,
immigration, pollution, reproductive rights, and LGBTQ+ equality,
      hurting millions while claiming virtue.

Grounded in psychology and real-world data, this book reframes the
culture war and offers a path toward compassion-led politics.
      -
Christopher Armitage is an Air Force veteran and researcher in psychology, law enforcement, and public policy.

      D. Carl Brown is a clinical psychologist who studies empathy and personality in political behavior.

If there is a devil, he is clearly winning. And if there is a god, he has at last decided to punish America.

I don't believe either scenario, of course. Far too many Americans have become too complacent, bigoted, incurious, and indoctrinated by criminals and liars.

  8. “As a sex crimes/child abuse investigator I learned an uncomfortable truth: at times the last person to trust in a child abuse investigation was the victim’s mother, who far too often chose to protect the man perpetuating the abuse rather than protect their child. This is what occurred with Amy Acton. The abuse Acton experienced and her mother’s duplicitous behavior, both in choosing her daughter’s abuser over her child and now disseminating lies, is bad enough. That this scenario is not only used by a reprehensible politician but also is being supported by two more disgraceful and shameful men, we clearly see an unforgivable lack of moral character. But what else is new? Really, is anyone really surprised by this behavior? Support that man if you want to, support his party is you chose, but accept that if you ignore or defend; no wait, accept that if you don’t speak out and rebuke these men for this behavior, you are complicit.” —Mike Magnotti

  9. This country chose twice an ignorant, immoral, POS to be president... To me it is reflective of who and what this nation is. A racist, misogynist, and ethically unbalance nation. Concerned with only itself and to hell with everyone else.

This nation, from an ethical and moral perspective has NEVER been great. Given its choices politically of late, we never will be. Unless there is a sea change in an ethical and moral direction. I simply don't see that ever happening.

  10. Ms. Shaw, I don't have proof that she married her brother and we may never know but when asked the question Representative Ilhan Omar responded "Not to my knowledge" when asked by Chris Hayes on MS NOW. Most people would know if they married their sibling and if they are incompetent enough to not know, should they be in office? Of course she speaks the truth and you place faith in someone to help run your government who goes from 33 million one day and when exposed only has a few thousand.

And I agree that siding with a women who murders her children, no matter the cause, is difficult to accept. The same who protested for her innocence are the same people who protest against the police when some protester is killed trying to run them over.

I do believe the ad is disgusting and can't wait until the 4th to see them all be taken off.

  11. Skud asked... "Dave, Maybe, as a country, we should be more concerned having a president who is a felon..."

Yes Skud! I agree. We should be more concerned about a felon as POTUS.

He goes on... "marrying your brother is fine..." Where has anyone said that? If it is proved Omar illegally married her brother and through that, got citizenship, you know what Dems will do? They'll throw her under the bus. Right away. Because that's what Dems do. Follow the law.

And yet, there's more... "it is OK to kill your kids because you are depressed." Who says this? Who said this? Show us a quote, never mind, you don't do that, where someone, anyone said It is okay to kill their kids.

People say they can understand it happening, that doesn't make it okay.

    Here's a real situation.

Iran recently bombed, and I'm quoting American military officials, the "shit out of" the base in Bahrain. Reports are now coming out of what some military moms, living on that base did during the bombing. They got all their kids together so that if a bomb fell on their home, they'd all die together, at once.

So no kid would grow up with survivor guilt and trauma. I can see a mom doing that. Thinking about that.

Is that what those moms wanted ? Not at all. But maybe that's how you would interpret the actions of incredibly desperate parents, especially moms.

I can't explain what happens in the brains of people who do stuff like this. But unlike you, I don't think anyone believes it is okay, and I've never seen reporting saying that.

That you would assert that shows a lot of your character.

  12. Yes, my two eldest sisters have gone that route and I’m deeply ashamed of them. They are holier than thou, every Sunday to church Catholics. As I believe I mentioned before one sister justified her beliefs because “everyone has a cross to bear in this life.” Nothing about being put on this earth to help others.

There is a great quote from one of my favorite film Howard’s End, from Anthony Hopkin’s character that sums up their philosophy: “Don't take up a sentimental attitude toward the poor. The poor are the poor. One is sorry for them, but there it is."
