TEXAS REPUBLICANS...

doing all they can to keep a 90-year-old Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from voting. Oh yeah, and he just "happens" to be a Democrat.

You go Texas!

Show the rest of the U.S. and the world how you protect your citizens' freedoms, and how to do excellent voter suppression! (After you show us all how to interfere with a woman's Constitutionally protected right to choose.)

Let's all hear it for "small government" Republicanism while they suppress a citizen's right to vote and a woman's right to privacy.

Texas, like many states, passed SB 14 for the ostensible reason of combating in-person voter fraud, which Hillary Rodham Clinton recently called a "phantom epidemic." But Texas has not been able to identify a single instance of in-person voter fraud.

Texas has said that the law is not intended to discriminate against Black and Latino voters, whose communities represent 90 percent of the state's population grown in the past decade, and yet the state's legislature refused to accept any of the amendments offered that would have mitigated any of SB 14's burdens that disproportionately affect voters of color — amendments that, for example, would have created a way for poor voters to get free identification, or would have accepted student IDs.

A single comparison of the accepted and not accepted forms of photo ID makes the priorities of the law clear: SB 14 will allow voters to present a concealed handgun license at the polls, but not a student ID from any of Texas's public universities.

More at Jobsanger on Texas's shameful voter Suppression tactics.

We do seem to have a limited selection regarding which party to support.
We can go with the republican party of the clueless and clowns or the democrat party of corruptions and lies. Romney and his latest opinions shows why he lost and Obama is making Nixon look like a saint.

We do indeed need a new party of sanity

And this fools exactly none of those voters. Part of the reason for the increase in black voter turnout in 2012 seems to have been anger at these blatant attempts to revive Jim Crow in state after state. They can talk about imaginary fraud until they're blue (or red) in the face, but people who were on the receiving end of vote suppression for generations know it when they seen it.

So much for the Republican claims that they were going to reach out to minorities.

When the law adversely effects lawmakers, will they change their position? No.

Anon@11:07, that you think President Obama is worse than Richard Nixon was as a president is enough evidence to place you in the Loony Bin" category of opinionators.

It's complete twaddle.

You are right, Nixon only lied to the American people about one issue so you can't compare him with BHO.

Obama is living his legacy only, unlike Nixon, he does not have the integrity to resign and we know he won't be impeached.

Here's some good stuff on David Barton who is likely to challenge John Cornyn.

Teas moves even further right?

Anon, you're full of bullpuckey and hopelessly partisan if you think Mr. Obama is anything like Nixon.

You need to get out more and breathe some fresh air.

You're not dealing with reality. And the rest of the country and world knows it.

Tea Party crazies are everywhere.

In response to the leftist talking points, you people do not know what is best for me. How dare you assume to know what is in my best interests, or the best interests of my family! Iditarod! Forests!

Jack’s Iceberg: “How dare you assume to know what is in my best interests, or the best interests of my family!

How dare we? Your comment reminds me of what it is like to be in a bad marriage with an abusive spouse who violates personal boundaries and fails to distinguish between YOURS, MINE, and OURS.

The United States is not just YOUR country; it is also MY country. It spends not just YOUR tax money; it spends MY tax dollars too. It addresses not just YOUR priorities but MY priorities too and those of a diverse population.

You appear incapable of living in a representative democracy, hostile to the meaning of elections and majority rule, and intolerant of the needs and priorities of various and sundry stakeholders. The key words of a public policy debate are COMPROMISE and CONSENSUS, not merely YOURS or MINE.

If American democracy is not your cup of Tea smugness, then perhaps North Korea or Somalia may be more to your liking. Good luck with that.

Fine, Jack Iceberg (perfect name, btw). Don't get your kids vaccinated. Don't wear seat belts. Don't buy auto insurance.

Don't pay your taxes. No paved roads in your neighborhood. No street lights. No parks. No federal aid in case of a major natural disaster.

No nothing. It's all about you apparently. So, go live on an island away from the rest of society. Build your own house. Grow your own food, providing you have water. No liberals around. Just other selfish ignoramuses. Good luck.

I second and third (O)CT(O)PUS and Leslie's comments, Jack Iceberg.

And BTW, you really need to do something about that auto-correct.
