Between the "Birthers" who are trying to keep alive the lie that President Obama is not a legitimate president because, they claim, he was born in Kenya or Indonesia and certain members of the GOP who pass around disgusting racist emails, I can't keep up with who are the nuttier of the two groups.
The election of America's first bi-racial president was historic, for sure, but it seems to have unleashed a brand of hatred, paranoia, and racism that I have not seen in my lifetime.
No one disputes an American citizen's right to criticize his or her president on policies, but what about the sickos of the GOP who continue to spread the lie that Mr. Obama's citizenship is suspect? Who are the sickos who think it's "funny" to pass emails around that dipict the president in the worst stereotypical, racially loaded cartoons and photoshopped images? Apes, witch doctors, watermelons on the front lawn of the White House--all of these images, and worse, have been flying through cyberspace to the delight and hilarity of people who believe they are patriotic Americans.
I'll bet they pat themselves on their backs daily, congratulating each other on their allegience to the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and the foundation of our laws as set out in our Constitution. Then when they receive a vomit-inducing cartoon or photoshopped image of Mr. Obama or his wife in a dehumanized and racially insulting image, they snicker up their sleeves, because, after all, it's the way real "Merkins" think of people with dark skin, isn't it?
To those who may believe "it's just a joke" to continue to infect this country with images that racially ridicule and demean the president, or any minority, I have news for you:
You are the joke. And you are a dying breed. Ask most young people today.
Or better yet, read the statistics on the changing population in this country. Read about the people of color and bi-racial Americans who will, in the not-to-distant future, be the majority of America's population.
Then think about your feelings when the nutjobs in that population start passing around stupid and inflammatory cartoons and photoshopped images of pasty old white people. Will it be "just a joke" when it happens to you?
"Then think about your feelings when the nutjobs in that population start passing around stupid and inflammatory cartoons and photoshopped images of pasty old white people. Will it be "just a joke" when it happens to you?
ReplyDeleteI actually find minority-stereotype racism to be more offense them white stereotype racism. Probably because they are usually more prevalent and boneheaded.
These morons live for the "pat on the back" they get from fellow morons. I sometimes think it won't stop until the continents drift back together and inbreeding creates a human race all sharing the same skin color. But then the idiots will just find something else I guess. To paraphrase Ron White; You can't breed out stupid.
ReplyDeleteThese idiotic (President Obama's birth certificate has not only been produced and verified by Hawaiian officials but shown on national TV 24/7) lies are not just coming from the hate filled nut jobs like Rush, Dobbs, and Beck.
ReplyDeleteThere are now nine Republican Senators who have signed on, including Sen. Grassley of Iowa, a long time senator considered intelligent and tempered, yet conservative.
If this was political, the Republicans would not be willing to look so stupid. Only their racist beliefs would allow them to appear so hate filled and stupid.
They are so totally racist, they don't think this stand is making them look stupid.
They wholeheartedly believe ANY ammunition should be used to remove a black man from the office of the President of the United States.
Speaking of 'white stereotype racism'...
ReplyDeletePresumably there are websites where such material presently resides. Then it should be easy enough to calculate the ratio. My guess is one looms large over the other.
Unless inflammatory cartoons and photoshopped images of 'pasty old white people' don't actually exist.
Illustrated versions of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion don't count.
And don't forget crackerjack, aced reporter Lou Dobbs is on the case demanding President Obama's birth certificate.
I hear he's also demanding proof of conception.
Does anybody believe for one second that even if President Obama held a press conference and held up the birth certificate showing the seal that the birthers would be satisfied?? They hate him and don't believe a word he says yet they claim that all he has to do is show his birth certificate and all of this will stop. Fat chance.
ReplyDeleteThe irrationality of racial hate produces this kind of stupid irrational accusation, not some political vendetta.
ReplyDeleteIf God himself came and told us Obama is an American citizen, they would not stop.
Lynne: No, the "birthers" would not believe it. They would think that Dan Rather made a fake document or something (similar to Rather's fictional account of Bush going AWOL).
ReplyDeleteThe conspiracy runs deep, and goes all the way back to the Hawaii newspapers making the birth announcment when Obama was born. The secret cabal, of course, knew that Obama would be President back then. Hell, they probably even arranged the union of Barack's mother and father.
Like the Bene Gesserit in "Dune" manipulating events over many long years to bring about Paul "Muad Dib", so too the secret cabal paved the way for Obama before he was even born.
When are the media going to report the REAL TRUTH!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBarack Obama is actually the son of Bristol Palin and Alger Hiss! He was conceived in the basement of WTC Building 7 while they were planting the thermoexplosives that brought down the building in 2001!!!!!!
Arthur: One looms much larger over the other.
ReplyDeleteNice to see that other folks are cheerily ventilating the rarely discussed visceral racial bigotry of the Obama’s. TWENTY YEARS in the black separatist “God Damn America” church of J Wright — where Calypso Louis Farrakhan was frequently feted — without ONE WORD of public criticism from the Obama’s, until the videos appeared on TV says all you need to know about the Obamas racial views.
ReplyDeleteMichelle My Belle as Senor Limbaugh wittily calls her is as loathsome a public figure as its possible to behold. The obsequious fawning over this essentially irrelevant, thus far quite vapid, urban chic clothes horse is deeply nauseating. Funny how her supposedly academic racist polemic wasn’t available during the election, yet now magically appears when its too late!! Her sullen anti-white bias was on show, in the summer, albeit fleetingly, then she all but disappeared from the campaign.
Barak Hussein Obama is already a clueless, unmitigated disaster, as Wall Street has lost 30% during the first month of his uber liberal ‘residency’. Directly reflecting how the victims of his War on Capitalism feel about the stunning incompetence and ineptitude of this Hugo Chavez like far left wannabe messiah who brazenly appoints tax cheat after tax cheat. Whilst gleefully choking down White House $100 a pound beef on the tax payers dime. Funny also how you never ever see the driveby media “celebrate” Barak Hussein Obama’s “white half”. And exactly why is he spending over a million bucks on snouts in the trough trial lawyers preventing his original birth certificate from being shown to us all on Fox News? Surely there’s NOTHING to hide???
Oh look, there's one now!
ReplyDeleteConcerning Grace's incoherent rant: you can't rationalize with the irrational...
ReplyDeleteLynne: Yes, there's one now, indeed. I'm not even addressing the troll directly.
ReplyDeleteI for one don't trust anyone to give serious political discourse when they can't even spell the name of the President of the United States correctly.
And last time I know, Louis Farrakhan's title was "Minister", not "Calypso"). I hold Farrakhan and his very supremacist views in great contempt, but why not identify him correctly when referring to him?
Arthur: You know I have zero tolerance for any of the racist stuff. Remember our discussion on another blog about Native American stereotypes. The one where we sort of blindsided you :)

One of the leaders of the so-called "Birther Movement" is Louis "Lou" Dobbs.
ReplyDeleteBut, Dobbs, who blames illegals from Mexicans for everything from the budget deficit, to leprosy, and unemployment, has a dirty little secret of his own.
Dobbs was born in the small town of Delicias, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. That’s right — MEXICO.
He was later smuggled into the U.S. by his Texas propane salesman father, Frank Dobbs, who kept the truth of his son’s south-of-the-border origins a secret, even from Lou himself.
Lou Dobbs only learned about his Mexican birth in adolescence, and would spend the rest of his adult life desperately trying to cover up the truth.
His official bio has him born in Rupert, ID (wrong) or Childress, TX (wrong, again.) Lou Dobbs was born in Mexico!

ReplyDeleteGrace: you are giving birthers a bad name. And that's quite difficult to do.
ReplyDeleteWhere has 'Grace' been keeping itself?
ReplyDeleteWhat a grasp of the issues. What an agile mind.
More, please.
Tim/Troll,
ReplyDeleteI have a copy of Lou "I hate Mexicans" Dobbs' birth certificate posted on my blog with the proof for all to see.
I realize this is a blow to all the birther loons who look to nutcases like Lou Dobbs to to try and smear President Obama but it's Dobbs who has some splainin' to do.
Now, run along and take a Tylenol.
Christopher: Perhaps you should update Wikipedia's Lou Dobbs entry?
ReplyDeleteGrace spewed: "I have seen your asinine comments all over the board....blah, blah, blah".
ReplyDeleteNo you haven't. I comment here and I commented on Right is Right which was promptly deleted. But you would know, you seem awfully intelligent.
As if Mexicans in this country didn't bear a large enough burden already. Turns out the Pillsbury Doughboy is a Chihuahuan.

Thank you.
The stance Obama is taking regarding Honduras is despicable. And yes, over and over he shows his disdain for America.
ReplyDeletetbw, as usual gets it wrong (also notice how he offers no commentary regarding Obama and Honduras; he simply goes after you).
tbw said, “And what about the vast maority of America’s citizens? They are in favour of their new president.”
tbw can’t seem to stop showing how ignorant he is. Today’s Rasmussen poll shows that 33% of voters strongly approve of the way Obama is performing as president. 35% strongly disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Rating Index rating of -2.
Overall, 53% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance so far and 46% disapprove.
Yes, the trend has mostly been downward for Obama.
It can’t be said enough; he is a know-nothing-know-it-all.
We are still waiting to here to know why you support Obama who is a coddling a leftist thug who thinks he’s bigger than the constitution of his country?
As a European (British to be precise) I feel compelled to comment to your blog.. Many Europeans surely do not hate the USA. We still remember that the Americans, together with the British saved our hides in the years 40-45. That our leftish governments seem to be anxious to sell out our continent nowadays is a totally different matter. Everybody thought Obama was the beginning of change and they were spot on. Unfortunately it will be known as a change for the worse, much worse. That Obama has given up on Europe is obvious, that he is selling out all the former allies of the USA will become more clearly every day. Obama is a man with a secret agenda and, as far as I am concerned, nothing more than a smooth talker who tells lies whenever he thinks fit. He will prove te be a disaster for freedom an democracy.
This President is like nobody I’ve ever seen or met or ever care to meet. If he were standing at my door I would not open it. I have the same reguard for him as he has for the American people. We simply aren’t there. His world is his elite inner circle, his power and his adoring dying press. The rest of us simply do not exist. Our very freedoms are in his hands and he is systematically destroying them and I believe he’s doing it on purpose. I don’t believe he hates America or Americans. I think he simply does not care. He has the trappings and the power. That was his goal and he has reached it. He will do as much damage as he can as fast as he can because he does know America is catching on. And strangly enough he doesn’t even care about that! He’s a strange one. It’s almost like he has an axe to grind. No soul. I believe he heard every word that came out of Jeremiah Wright’s foul mouth. Everything he does is staged for the ill informed. God knows there are plenty. He doesn’t even try to hide it. It doesn’t surprise me that he feels a kinship with Dictators. His goal is to be one of them. He’s off to a very good start.

I'd like to know exactly what it was that "compelled" you to hijack the thread on this post.
Your entire comment is nothing but unsubstantiated, prejudicial blather about the president. And it's quite incoherent.
You start out by telling us that Obama has a "secret agenda," then you explain that "secret agenda" to us.
It it's secret, how did you come to know of it?
From the voices in your head?
You claim you're a Brit:
"As a European (British to be precise)"
Then you switch to being an American"
"I have the same reguard for him as he has for the American people. We simply aren’t there."
You may very well be a Brit by birth, but no naturalized citizen I know of(my father and mother were both naturalized) would claim to be anything other than American, and if you were British by birth, why didn't you say so?
You yourself identify as a "European" not an American. My parents never called themselves anything but Americans once they were naturalized.
You continue with more unsubstantiated opinion:
"That Obama has given up on Europe is obvious, that he is selling out all the former allies of the USA will become more clearly every day."
No examples given. Just opinion.
Mr./Ms. European (British to be precise)American, whatever or whomever you are, please read the comment policy at the top right hand side of my blog and have the courtesy to comply with it should you be "compelled" to visit here again.
Thank you.

Nah.
So I'm perplexed as to why you would attack a commenter here who was not responding to you.
Just wondering.
Early this morning, I wrote to CNN demanding the ouster of Lou Dobbs who aided the "birther" conspirators with biased news. Later, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote CNN over the same issue. Full story here.
ReplyDelete8PUS,
ReplyDeleteI support this move to get Dobbs off the air. I'll be sending my letters to CNN this weekend.
Thanks for the info.
Octopus: Better hold off on that. Keep Lou Dobbs in front of the camera, so everyone knows where he is. If he gets ousted, he'll be running loose in the streets looking for brown-skinned people with "funny" sounding names so he can bash them with a baseball bat.

Bob appears to be a mature adult in his picture and yet the words are that of a middle schooler.
ReplyDeleteCNN president Jon Klein has had enough of Lou Dobbs hand-feeding the birther hysterics and dragging “The Most Trusted Name in News” into the dark reaches of village insanity.
ReplyDeleteKlein sent out this email last night telling Dobbs that “this story is dead.”
Dobbs appears to have been effectively muzzled, spending most of the show tonight bashining Obama for his remarks vis a vis the Cambridge cop.
Here’s Jon Klein’s email:

Subject: Important re birth certificate
I asked the political researchers to dig into the question “why couldn’t Obama produce the ORIGINAL birth certificate?”
This is what they forwarded. It seems to definitively answer the question. Since the show’s mission is for Lou to be the explainer and enlightener, he should be sure to cite this during your segment tonite. And then it seems this story is dead – because anyone who still is not convinced doesn’t really have a legitimate beef.
Thx

*In 2001 – the state of Hawaii Health Department went paperless.*Paper documents were discarded*The official record of Obama’s birth is now an official ELECTRONIC record Janice Okubo, spokeswoman for the Health Department told the Honolulu Star Bulletin, “At that time, all information for births from 1908 (on) was put into electronic files for consistent reporting,” she said.
The comments of the Nazis here remind me why I have comments moderated on my blog.
ReplyDeleteBob,
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome to come here and comment.
I asked a legitimate question.
JohnC. was not nasty in his quoting a definition to Gypsy Biker, as you will see when you re-read his comment.
He addressed Gypsy Biker with the definition of "gypsy."
It was you, not John, who jumped in here and used vile and confrontatinal language.
Someone else then took you to task for your unprovoked attack.
And then you turn around and blame everyone else for your rude behavior.
No one dragged you here into what you describe as a "disgusting Snake pit."
You came, you attacked, you were answered in kind by TRUTH 101, then you act like a victim and blame everyone but yourself for your own rude behavior.
Curious.
It's guys like 'Bob' standing between us and a whole world of Islamofascists, Marxists, feminists and sundry other adherents of various 'isms' ready, willing and able to blow us to bits, lop off our heads, herd us into collectivist labor camps and emaculate us. The menfolk that is.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think he would be a little tougher.
LibHom,
ReplyDeleteShaw has a major problem with the posters here. It becomes tiresome seeing the cascade of trolls who frequent this site.
This is why I implemented a comment policy too. Violate it and you're banned.
It's been a blessing for my regulars.
Christopher,
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll be adopting your method of comment monitoring as well.
I just can't do it now, since I'm on vacation and don't get to this site as often as I do normally.
I'm doing drive-by blogging.
As a blogger, I feel that monitoring comments on a blog is a coward's way of blogging. I think that all comments should be seen by your readers.
ReplyDeleteIf someone wants to make a fool out of themselves, then so be it. Let them have enough rope and they will do so.
Talk about socialism. Do you instill a patriot act to your own blog. Freedom of speech applies to blogers as well. I think that people who monitor their comments are Cowards . As one of the few people on the Internet who actually does post under his real name, I can tell you that I would never sink to that level.
And I might add that as long as I have been reading your blog Shaw, I feel that you know how to answer these trolls without monitoring them. If the others such as Christopher wants to, then let him do so. He won’t get my comments because he keeps it private.
Comment moderation is censorship; those whose comments are moderated will feel that you only post the comments that suits you. If a commenter wants to be controversial, I think that only adds to the interest of the blog.
If this comment gets deleted, I will know that you are one sided. You have every right in the world to decide who will be heard and who will not in the comments on your journal, and to remove those comments for any reason or for no reason at all. But when you start impugning the character of those whose comments you delete and whose voices you still in the very place where they're being attacked on such a pretextual basis, just to avoid openly admitting that you're engaging in comment moderation, then you're out of line. In my opinion.
I leave a lot of comments on a lot of blogs each week - but there is one situation where I rarely leave a comment
Matt,
ReplyDeleteI visited your blog and I see you have almost no traffic.
When my blog was more like yours, I could hold such lofty notions as "monitoring is censorship" and so forth. No one cherishes the First Amendment more than me.
However, when you begin to get daily numbers between 1,000 and 5,000, and you build a community of regulars, it simply isn't fair to the community to allow a small group of trolls to harass and taunt regular participants.
People have the right to feel safe when they post.
Christopher said...
ReplyDeleteMatt,I visited your blog and I see you have almost no traffic.
Maybe so Christopher, but personally I'd rather give up traffic and I would rather have slower traffic than give up the freedom of speech by monitoring.
But in Shaws case, I really think that she knows how to handle the trolls well enough and when to delete and when not to.
ReplyDeleteAt my blog, I only delete comments by people who are better looking than me, so that’s about two so far this year.
I think the golden rule applies here. treat others as you'd want to be treated. i really can't see of any other reasons to delete comments.
We all have our “cop stories,” either direct or anecdotal. The fact is, cops must be demanding in their tone, when they approach situations, especially potential home invasions! I’d like elitist to pay close attention to this next part. Cops do this, because their lives are on the line!! Unlike elitists, cops take no pleasure in harassment for shiggles.
ReplyDeleteIf stupid liberals would pass laws that kept the really bad guys in jail, then cops might be able to relax a bit. Until then however, cops treat every situation from the perspective of the “least common denominator”—as if they are approaching the worst kind of criminals, for example liberals! Cops want to go home to their families after performing their jobs, just like the rest of us. So in most cases, if you are cordial, and the cop senses that it’s an honest mistake, they respond in kind. If you’re a Harvard jackass, they have a response for that too
By the way.
Bob Parks of Black & Right, and he kicked not only the Cambridge Professor's ass, and Obama's ass in the process. Bob was fantastic and recently gave perspective on the whole Professor Gates incident.
Matt: Comment monitoring is not censorship. It is an expression of freedom of the press.
ReplyDelete"Freedom of speech applies to blogers as well. I think that people who monitor their comments are Cowards"
So, the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, National Review, and the Rush Limbaugh Show are all cowards? They monitor comments.
Do you honestly expect that you have the right to get your letter printed in the Wall Street Journal, and that they are cowards if they don't print it?
