He was never going to be the nominee. And what a good thing that is. But he and his wife had convinced themselves, and some very gullible people, that his self-promoted awesomeness would would deliver the delegates needed to go on to win the White House .
Self-delusion and hubris are what kept the Gingriches believing in that fantasy.
Now reality and a mountain of debt will sober them up.
His hubris and ambition remind me of some passages from Shakespeare:

It's all about the money with Newt. He knew he would never be the nominee. I don't think he ever wanted to be the nominee. He just wants to keep,his name in the news so that he can continue to collect the large "consulting" and "advising" fees. But of course that shouldn't surprise anyone. After all, he is a republican and we all know that they are all about the money...and the monied.

It will be nice to have a president who can lead and does not think he is a rock star. I am not a big Romney supporter but he does have leadership experience and some class. No offense to the Obamites but that skit with Fallon was very classless and shows what Obama is all about. He wants to be a show business personality.

Was that comedy skit more dignified because Romney did it?
I'm just trying to understand why people always criticize Obama when he does EXACTLY the same sort of thing a conservative does. I'm truly curious to understand how Romney's participation in a comedy show skit with David Letterman is acceptable while President Obama appearing on Jimmy Fallon's show to promote a policy is considered "classless."
I have a suspicion that people's political dislike of Mr. Obama is what leads them to a knee-jerk reaction.

I am not for any presidential candidate acting like a fool but especially POTUS. Obama has total knee-jerk reactions when someone criticizes him and then make an ass of himself on TV.
I would like to see a president who can lead Americans to achieve instead of blaming achievers for their success.

If the Nutty faction of Republicans, the ones for whom Romney is too sane (or too Mormon) had ever united behind one candidate, they could have pulled it off. But, well, they didn't. Maybe Newt can start a second career playing James Bond villains.

ReplyDeleteRomney is appealing to Americans to vote for him to be the president of the US. He believes he's a better man and politician than Obama. And Romney's doing it by showing up and appearing in skits on teevee comedy shows. Your complaint that Obama is the president and he shouldn't do what Romeny--who trying out for the position--is doing, doesn't make sense.

I have grown exceedingly tired of voting for the lesser of two evils because the net result has been piss poor and in my view it is about to get worse. Regardless of which major candidate wins the general.

It would Jerry, I'm glad Gary Johnson is staying alive on the libertarian party. He has the potential to put the setup on the map so to speak. If the press gives him reasonable exposure he will have an outside shot.
