It's embarrassing.
And infantile.
And a tactic losers employ when they know they're being outsmarted and outpoliticked.
This is how the GOPers behave when the person they want to vote out of the Oval Office actually plays politics like every other politician who has ever sought the presidency:
I'll start with the slanderous and malevolent comment Silverfiddle left here about Mr. Obama:
"Time to send this corrupt Chicago pol back to the stinking sewer he crawled out of."
Of course, like the other hysterical people who are deeply offended because Mr. Obama has had a few good weeks and Mr. Romney has not, SF has been extremely shy about backing up his slander with, y'know, actual evidence of Mr. Obama's "corruption." So all his little hissyfit amounts to is calling the president he doesn't like a "poopyhead."
Here's the titular head of the GOP, Rush Limbaugh, barking at what's left of his audience:
Limbaugh: “…I’ll tell you what. I think it can now be said, without equivocation — without equivocation — that this man hates this country. He is trying—Barack Obama is trying—to dismantle, brick by brick, the American dream. There’s no other way to put this.
There's no other way to put this.
There's no other way to explain this.
He was indoctrinated as a child. His father was a communist. His mother was a leftist. He was sent to prep and Ivy League schools where his contempt for the country was reinforced. He moved to Chicago. It was the home of the radical-left movement. He hooks up to Ayers and Dohrn and Rashid Khalidi. He learns the ruthlessness of Cook County politics. This is what we have as a president: A radical ideologue, a ruthless politician who despises the country and the way it was founded and the way in which it became great.
He hates it."
And today, Mr. Romney's surrogate, John Sununu was in fine foaming-at-the-mouth form as well:
"He has no idea how the American system functions,” Sununu said on Fox News Tuesday. “And we shouldn’t be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent … another set of years in Indonesia.
John Sununu, the former governor of New Hampshire and a leading Romney surrogate, told reporters that Obama’s recent defense of public infrastructure shows he “doesn’t understand how America works.
I wish this president would learn how to be an American,”
Politics is not for sissies, that's for sure, but what is it about the GOPers that make them go after Mr. Obama with such malice and snarling hatred?
Can you guess?
Fill in the blank_______________________________.
What happened to attacking his ideas and policies? All of the above attacks are ad hominem and a direct assault on Mr. Obama, the man.
The attacks are a pathetic reflection on the people making them and are always an indication of their obvious lack of the ability to intelligently and forcefully argue the issues.
It's also a losing tactic.
No one likes loud-mouthed bullies.
Michael Tomasky:
"Who, in this context, is Mitt Romney? An ex-governor who can’t discuss his record, and an ex-capitalist who ... is getting close to the point where he can’t discuss his record. And who has been afraid for two years, or more, lest he offend Rush Limbaugh and Fox. This is not his Republican Party. It’s theirs. And Romney has given us no reason to think that will change."
If you want to add........
ReplyDeleteToday Ms. Bachmann said the government has been infiltrated by the Muslim Brotherhood, helped by American Democratic politicians.
The Senate GOP blocked revisiting the Citizens United decision.
GOP killed a bill, that would have put people to work. I guess because it is the government putting people to work, since their private corporations will not.
Romney said today, "I'm not enthusiastic about releasing my tax returns."
I doubt most politicians are, but Romney thinks he's different, better than other politicians, and does not have to show us his returns. Something all politicians have done for decades.
The false voter fraud issue is being pushed hard by Republicans. A total non-issue.
We don't need to use personal attacks on Republicans, all we have to do is print their own words, and show the negative effects their policies have had on the country.
Tony Rezko.
ReplyDeleteThen there's the matter of Michelle getting a job upgrade as soon as Barack became a US Senator, but she earned her money, chasing the poor people out of the rich people's hospitals.
And if you don't believe the Chicago political scene is shot through with corruption, I've got a bridge to sell you.
I was called a moron today by SF simply because I confronted him with the facts that the voter ID laws and voter role purging is a false issue.
ReplyDeleteYou might think if the facts were on their side, they wouldn't have to resort to personal attacks. Republicans have to use personal attacks, the facts prove Democrats correct.
Let's see, is Obama running Chicago politics today? Thought not.
ReplyDeleteYou've got a candidate running who isn't "enthusiastic" about sharing any more of his relevant tax information because it just wouldn't help matters if the average American saw how the wealthy use our tax code to avoid taxes THEY have to pay.
ReplyDeleteRomney's "retroactive" retirement from Bain Capital excuse might even get him off the hook from that Romneycare thing... all he has to do is "retroactively" leave Massachusetts before it is enacted into law. Poof! Problem solved.
Where are the keys to the WABAC machine, Mitt?
SF,
ReplyDeleteWhere is your evidence that President Obama is corrupt.
You have a very annoying habit of not answering a direct question and of changing the subject.
You say the "Chicago political scene is corrupt." Give us proof that Mr. Obama was corrupt.
If you can't, then I stand by my characterization of what you wrote as nothing more than calling Mr. Obama a poopyhead.
It's childish claptrap.
Can't you guys do anything better than call people names?
"Can't you guys do anything better than call people names?"
ReplyDeleteNo! That is all that's left when you have no accomplishments and nothing to run on...at least nothing that you want to talk about.
Romney could talk about his healthcare plan that he instituted as governor, but he doesn't want people to know that it was the blueprint for Obamacare.
I guess I got the "Shaw" treatment today at SF's blog, they were all calling me names.
ReplyDeleteThe pursuit of trashing candidates of the political affiliation one disagrees based solely on person is indeed inappropriate. Pointing out the candidates actual or perceived political shortcomings is not only fair game it is healthy and should be welcomed.
ReplyDeleteSpirited debate good. Personal attack bad. Applies to either and or both sides.
A very rational, reply, RN. I do believe that you are mellowing out a bit. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jerry. It's guys like you and gals like Shaw that give me the opportunity to "mellow." :)
ReplyDelete@steve "Let's see, is Obama running Chicago politics today?"
ReplyDeleteIt is the other way around, his Chicago political handlers are running him.
I will give credit to his handlers for their efforts so far. They take a positive, successful business man an turn it into a negative, Bain. Of course they know the media will be supportive of trashing the success of Romney and applauding the failure of Obama because the vast majority of the media are limousine liberals. It has been quite a marketing show so far and the Chicago style is back in force. If you have nothing good to say about your candidate, trash the opposition.
This is an interesting comment for someone with a very, very short memory [and who hates seeing what was done to Kerry being done to Romney--I wonder if skudrunner was so upset when the purple bandages [mocking John Kerry's military service in Viet Nam] showed up on GOPers at the GOP presidential convention of 2004?]
ReplyDeleteFlashback to 2004 using skudrunner's 2012 whine:
"It is the other way around, Bush's Texas political handlers are running him.
I will give credit to Bush's handlers for their efforts so far. They take a positive, successful war hero [Kerry] and turn it into a negative, his Viet Nam military service.
Of course they know the media will be supportive of trashing the heroism of Kerry and applauding the failure of Bush because the vast majority of the media are conservatives.
It has been quite a marketing show so far and the Turd Blossom's [Karl Rove] Texas style is back in force. If you have nothing good to say about your candidate, trash the opposition."
Dear skudrunner,
Karl Rove and his Texas style politics of trashing and denigrating people helped Mr. Bush win re-election. The GOP loved it when it gave them the WH for a second term, but now HATES it when those tactics are used against their guy.
If you and the GOP liked it then as a way to win, why don't you like it now???
Oh...wait...
PS. If the GOP stops telling lies about Mr. Obama, the Democrats will stop telling the truth about Mr. Romney.
Steve: "Boo Hoo, somebody called me a moron!"
ReplyDeleteOnly it didn't happen. Put on your eyeglasses and work on your reading comprehension before playing the crying victim.

If you think Obama swam in that stinking sewer of political corruption and remained untainted, you are incredibly naive.
Obama, the new Teflon President in the eyes of some Silver. Rainbows and unicorns make it so.
ReplyDeleteDear SF,
ReplyDeleteYour desperation is showing.
I have only one word for you:
ENRON. [but there are others] Remember how close Mr. Bush and "Kenney Boy" were?
Did you call Mr. Bush a corrupt dweller of sewers?
Oh, and about those billions of mission dollars from George W. Bush's Excellent Adventure in Iraq?
A billion here, a billion there? After a while it begins to add up.
SF, your playing a silly game, trying to make one administration look like crooks while blithely ignoring your party's culpability in plunging this country into the worst economic crisis since the 1930s.
Your party has stated unequivocally that its most important goal is to deny Mr. Obama a second term as president.
Your party's goal is to keep Americans hurting and out of work in order to throw one man out of work.
If that isn't a definition of corruption, then I don't know the meaning of the word.
"...but the lapdog press is now the Obama Hallelujah choir, so none of it matters..."
ReplyDeleteNot to put too fine a point on it, Mr. SF, but I've read all about those issues in all the newspapers I get, on the internet, and have actually seen hearings on the teevee.
You obviously don't know what you're talking about, because the media have all been on those stories.
What amounts to a burr in your breeches is the fact that none of it has destroyed Mr. Obama, as you and your pals had so ardently hoped.
I feel your pain.
"because the vast majority of the media are conservatives"
ReplyDeleteEven for you that is a big stretch
I didn't know Bush was running again but looks like the Obamabots are back in the swing of running against Bush.
No. skudrunner. We're reminding you of your hypocrisy. Don't point fingers, unless you also point them at yourselves."
ReplyDeleteBTW, how far back are we supposed to have amnesia? [You apparently want us to forget about the 8 years Bush was in office, as though the past has no bearing on the present.)
Silverfiddle and others are bringing up stuff about Obama that is history.
But the history of 43 doesn't matter?
"because the vast majority of the media are conservatives" --SK
"Even for you that is a big stretch." --skudrunner
FAUX NOOZ has the LARGEST cable news audience, and most of their talking heads as well. MSNBC comes in at a paltry 3rd.
That's one.
The same guy who owns and operates FAUX NOOZ owns The Wall Street Journal.
Analyses prove that the overwhelming majority [2 to 1] of pundits that populate the Sunday news talk programs, are CONSERVATIVE/REPUBLICANS.
The most popular radio talk shows are CONSERVATIVE radio talk shows in every corner of this country, and the giant--literally--of them all is Rush Limbaugh, who, BTW, has outdone himself in asshattery this week by claiming the newest Batman movie is a liberal conspiracy to damage Mitt Romney.
What is astounding about the long run of El Rushbo's radio career is not so much that he continues to dominate AM talk radio, but that we still have people in this country that actually listen to his swill and believe it.
"No. skudrunner. We're reminding you of your hypocrisy. Don't point fingers, unless you also point them at yourselves."
ReplyDeleteI assume (a dangerous thing to do) by that statement you mean both sides Shaw. Is that correct>
RN, that statement is in response to skudrunner's complaint about how political campaigns are run.
ReplyDeleteSkudrunner is complaining about the Obmama campaign's tactics that Karl Rove used to win a second term for Bush: taking a candidate's strength and turning it into a liability. Rove perfected it, and the Obama people learned from it.
.
ReplyDeleteGame on!
Still many months until the national election but am feeling good about the situation as it stands this morning. It is quite fun to watch as the RepeblicanT Party is currently losing the street fight to Mr Obama.
So when engaged with RW haters one can usually cause their heads to explode with some of the following:
Should people refer to the RepublicanT Party's nominee as OMitt Rmoney?
OMitt not releasing his tax returns is equal to Mr Obama not releasing his kindergarten report card and OMitt hiding his wealth in the Cayman Islands/Switzerland is the equivalent to the family Obama owning shares in a mutual fund?
Why do you think OMitt is not willing to release his tax records?
Is OMitt hiding something?
Do you think OMitt will be able to hold out from releasing his tax records until the RepublicanT Party convention?
Do you think OMitt's whining about how mean and nasty he is being treated by the 'thugs from Chicago' is very manly?

"Skudrunner is complaining about the Obmama campaign's tactics that Karl Rove used to win a second term for Bush: taking a candidate's strength and turning it into a liability. Rove perfected it, and the Obama people learned from it."
ReplyDeleteWell Shaw learning from wrong for the purpose of committing the same wrong is not, at least in my opinion a honorable pursuit.
Perhaps that is why I have been called an idealist. Although I prefer to think of it as ethical and rational.
The results of you response continued on is... The more things change the more they will in reality stay the same.
OMitt, very catchy Ema. Was that a original?
ReplyDeleteHow about, O'bam the Sham? Catchy as well don't ya think Ema? ;)
Ema,
ReplyDeleteYou've brought up some interesting points.
I wonder about this:
Sarah Palin has NOT been invited to the GOP convention. Imagine that. A politician who was number two on the GOP ticket in the last presidential being snubbed?
I think she should be invited as a reminder to the GOP and the country that John McCain chose HER instead of Mitt Romney because SHE WAS MORE QUALIFIED!
I think Sarah should not only attend the convention, but that she should wear a very large sign around her pretty little neck that advertises that John McCain admission.
How bad must Romney be for Palin to be picked instead of him? How does being less qualified for VP than Palin make him qualified for president?
ReplyDeleteLOL!
JC: "How does being less qualified for VP than Palin make him qualified for president?"
ReplyDeleteDing! Ding! Ding!
We have a winnah!
I don't think the GOPers have thought that through to the logical conclusion.
But that's not surprising.
If Romney keeps saying he will not release more tax returns, the cries of outrage will grow from his opposition. And with those cries, accusations that he is hiding something.
ReplyDeleteBut this may backfire. My hunch is that he is planning to release the returns when demands and accusations are loud enough and the election is close enough. Further, that nothing particularly damning will be in any of them.
If I am right, Romney and his advisors may be effectively be using the attention to pick and choose when to pop that ballon.
I think he should release more returns. I think he will. I don't think it will hurt him; but if the hollering for them is attached to unfounded accusations of wrong doing and it turns out there are none, it may hurt the accusers.
We have seen this before on different topics. The reaction of a motivated opposition (on both sides) is highly predictable, which can manipulated.
.
ReplyDelete"If I am right, Romney and his advisors may be effectively be using the attention to pick and choose when to pop that ballon."
By that time, the street fight will be over. The RepublicanT Party is already jittery. The Democratic Party is carrying the initiative, picking when and what to force OMitt to react and respond. OMitt carries Bain Capital around his neck exactly because Mr Obama has tied it there.
Wait for the $100 million IRA shoe to hit the floor.
The Democratic Party is effective containing the GOP. An October surprise may knock Mr Obama off his game, but don't count on it.

KP,
ReplyDeleteIt's true that we saw this same thing on the birther issue.
You may be right. But Mr. Romney's severe protestations that HE WILL NOT release them seem to indicate he's quite adamant about not releasing them.
And that would make him the ONLY candidate in modern history to give the American people only one return.
People will continue to wonder about what he's hiding.
JC: "How does being less qualified for VP than Palin make him qualified for president?"
ReplyDeleteDing! Ding! Ding!
We have a winnah!
And...
"How does being less qualified for VP than Palin make him qualified for president?" - HOME RUN!
You better hope that the Romney camp doesn't have an outfield. Cause as KP so aptly put it it could backfire.
Having said this, talk about self inflicted wounds.
We agree, Shaw. I think he should release them and I think he will. You picked up on what I was alluding to. I didn't mention the birther issue because it doesn't concern me and I didn't want it to sound like it does. It has made the fringe right look silly.
ReplyDeleteEma, to be clear, I would rather not see a street fight. Streets fights are very unpredictable and change very rapidly. They usually don't last long. There is always the chance a knife or a gun will be drawn. What we are seeing is more like a cat fight or children saying "I know you are but what am I".
Consider the amount of campaign money the Obama campaign has spent on the tax return issue. Mitt releases them with nothing unknown and Obama has spent a lot for nothing. I think Axelrod and his henchmen have thought that through and that is the reason they have gone after Bain for outsourcing jobs. The biggest problem with that approach is Obama is the outsourcing King, only with taxpayers money, so that could turn on him as well.
ReplyDeleteAs to Palin, she is the main reason we have this disaster of an administration in the WH. The republicans thought they could capture the female vote with her, they just didn't realize how uninformed she was and after the democrats hired cuttie Katey Curic to help her destroy herself, it was all over.
Somehow to criticize Palin when the democrat handlers selected Biden is truly a joke but I will agree not inviting Palin is a good thing because she needs to go back to moose hunting.
"Somehow to criticize Palin when the democrat handlers selected Biden is truly a joke..."
ReplyDeleteBecause the world understands that Joe Biden with his vast experience as a Senator and as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee is equivalent to Palin's meager accomplishments.
I try to take your comments seriously, skudrunner, then you write something foolish like that.
And it wasn't just Palin that caused the GOP to lose the WH, it was also the disasterous policies of the previus eight years.
SF said,
ReplyDelete"Better go back to Morons Spouting Nothing But Crap and get some more propaganda talking points, you're failing miserably"

ReplyDeleteIf Johnson doesn't win, it doesn't matter if we have a crook (Romney) for president.
So much for RN's fake crying about political principles.
@ Steve: Just pointing out what a lying scum bag you are.
ReplyDeleteThis from someone who accused me of name-calling! And you're still cross-eyed apparently. In no way did I call you a moron.
You are hilarious dude! I hope Obama starts tanking in the polls, you will really be fun to watch then.
Shaw: Enron? Ask Krugman, he's the one who crafted all those dirty tricks.
I guess you can dish it out, but can't take it.
ReplyDeleteI have asked people here to NOT engage in ad hominem attacks on my commenters.
ReplyDeletePlease, guys, do not do it.
I can strongly disagree with SF, and I do, but I don't like it when we start denigrating each other with names like scum and moron.
I'm talking about what goes on here.
I have no control over what SF allows on his blog.
"Because the world understands that Joe Biden with his vast experience as a Senator and as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee is equivalent to Palin's meager accomplishments."
ReplyDeleteSo Biden and Palin are equal, that is truly an insult to one of them, take your pick.
You refer to the Bush eight years of being a disaster. For the first four he did a pretty good job. Helped the country regain its footing after a terrorist attack, grew the economy and had very low unemployment.
It was in 2004-2008 that things started to fall into the abyss. Dodd/Frank?Waters/Raines manipulated banks and the mortgage market for their own gain and Bush was not strong enough to stop them. In 2007-2008 he had a majority democrat senate and house and he didn't want to fight so he just laid over and took the blame.
Lets contrast Bush's first four to Obama. Both took over a recession started by democrats. Bush brought unemployment to 5% Obama to 8.2. Bush had a robust housing market, Obama not so much. Although never a Bush advocate, he did one great thing for all the Americans. He kept ALGORE from the presidency and for that we owe him our gratitude
@Mr. No Name Anonymous... I also said much more for those who choose to go read it.
ReplyDeleteAs well, I said to go crap in your hat. So you did.
skudrunner, you wrote:
ReplyDelete"Somehow to criticize Palin when the democrat handlers selected Biden is truly a joke..."
And I answered:
"Because the world understands that Joe Biden with his vast experience as a Senator and as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee is equivalent to Palin's meager accomplishments."
It's called sarcasm.
The rest of your comment is fatuous.
Bush did a pretty good job the first four years?
We suffered the worst attack on American soil that resulted in 3,000+ American deaths, and then we were plunged into war first with Afghanistan. Then, based on bad intelligence, Bush dragged us into a horrible war with Iraq, where thousands of Americans and Iraqis died horrible deaths.
Both wars were not paid for, and Bush gave everyone tax cuts, the first time in US history when a president gave out tax cuts during war!
And there was Abu Ghraib.
Do you expect me or anyone who reads here to take you seriously? Ever? After what you just wrote?
George Bush, BTW, didn't keep Al Gore from the presidency, the Supreme Court did.
If you insist on writing bad comedy, I suggest you look for work with Ann Coulter.
How about go crap in your hat?

ReplyDeleteLooks like a big Obama bundler was in charge at Bain when they threw all those steel workers out of work.
You know, the ones in Obama's smear commercial?
Shaw,
ReplyDeleteYou did not disappoint with your response. To you the whole voting issue is a sham and we should just go ahead and crown Obama King because of all the wonderful things he has done.
Ooops. President Obama's name is not on the SEC filings for Bain, and plenty of documents exist to tie Romeny to Bain after 1999.
ReplyDeleteNone of this exculpates Romney from all his years as founder and owner of Bain.
I will have to read more about what is truth and what is fiction. I don't believe ANYTHING from Jim Hoft's blog. He's been caught lying and misinforming so often that his blog should be called the Gateway Liar.
skudrunner,
Where exactly have I said that?
You're the one who made this claim about GWB: "For the first four he did a pretty good job."
You never mentioned Sept. 11, or GWB's two unfunded wars and tax cuts and Abu Ghraib and torture.
That's a pretty good job?
It's you, my friend, who is living in that river in Egypt, not I.
I said nothing about crowing anyone king. You couldn't come back with an explanation for your outrageous claim about Bush's great first 4 years--I can understand why--it was an astouding attempt to ignore embarrassing facts.
And so what do you do? You come back here bitching about something I never said nor implied.
PS, SF, Romney is still playing defense.
ReplyDeletenever a good thing.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@ Shaw... "PS, SF, Romney is still playing defense.
ReplyDeletenever a good thing."
Agreed.
What Romney would do IMO if he were smart is:
1) Release his tax returns back to when he was governor of MA.
2) Go on national TV and tell the voter(s) SPECIFICALLY what he intends to do to get the economy percolating again. Tell them openly and honestly how he will accomplish his plan and promises.
Then announce that if the nation is not better off after his first term, based on the criteria he himself laid out he will not seek a second term.
A risk yes. Romney is a business man and he knows full well that taking risks is how one generates returns.
If he did this and won the election, and I believe he would, he would in essence be in the position of having to fire himself if he failed to perform. As it really should be.
Or guaranteed that he would be fired by the people.
On the other hand if he accomplished what he promised he would be the modern FDR.
What would the people have to lose?
But, don't worry liberals, Romney ain't smart enough to figure this out.
Glad I could change your mind RN. Just this morning you said you did not care if Romney released his tax returns.
ReplyDeleteOh and now it comes to light that the one year of tax returns he did release, are missing pages.
Anyone getting a "red alert" on that news?
To bad corporations don't understand risking investment in America. We wouldn't need government to invest, if corporations would.
Qoute it all if you' re going to qoute anything at all.

American business does not look long term. Nor do they always see the nation's best interest as synonymous with their own rightful profit interests. Unfortunate really.
