Saturday Night Supper

Here's a traditional Cape Cod,Yankee Saturday night supper:

Cod fish cakes made with mashed potatoes, onions, bread crumbs, and egg wash to hold them together. Dip them in plain bread crumbs and saute in butter/olive oil.  Serve with home made Boston baked beans and cole slaw.  (I made the dressing for the cole slaw with a little mayonnaise and with more yogurt dressing.)  This dish is a real Bostonian/Cape Codder supper.  I would have preferred a Sam Adams seasonal beer, but we had to make do with a light chardonnay.  Sam Adams would have been better.

  1. Dave, I love learning new words in Spanish. I work with immigrants who are learning English as a second language. Most of our students are from Latin America. They are delightful, and because I have knowledge of Italian and French, I can do fairly well with what little Spanish I know. Our students range from abuelas to young men in their teens. They are all dedicated and earnest in wanting to learn English.

  3. Spanish is so interesting, depending on where your from...

    Like a tortilla...

In Mexico, it's a tortilla, but in other places, it's a cake.

Even within Mexico where I serve, words vary for the same item... especially when you add in slang...

I'm only fairly fluent in spanish, but if I'm watching a movie in either italian or portuguese, I can do pretty well.

My french that I took in high school is pretty much gone these days...

  4. If it weren't for the students I work with, I would never have discovered this delightful food.
