Are You Dreaming of Another Bush in the White House?

UPDATE BELOW

If you are, that's not a dream, it's a nightmare.

Some reality from Digby:

Republicans said Obama's policies would destroy “nearly 6 million jobs over the next decade” and lead to "diminishment of employment in America.” (John McCain campaign 10-31-08; Texas Rep. Pete Sessions 11-07-09)

People believed them.

Instead, 12 million new jobs created, more under 6 years of Obama than under 12 years of two Bushes, "the best private sector jobs creation performance in American history [that] outperformed President Reagan’s in all commonly watched categories" according to Forbes. (ElectaBlog 10-03-14; Forbes 09-05-14)

Meanwhile, "small-government, pro-business” George W. Bush presided over "the biggest federal budget expansion since Franklin Delano Roosevelt" and saw only 1.3 million net jobs created in 8 years (7 million net for Obama in 6 years).

The Wall Street Journal called Bush's "the worst track record on record." (Washington Times 10-19-08; ElectaBlog 10-03-14; Wall Street Journal 01-09-09)

And that governor from Wisconsin, who the Koch brothers hope will take up residence in the White House?

Look at what he's done for his state:

40th in Private Sector Job Growth over the last year. Let Scott Walker, the Koch Brothers and ALEC do for America what they've done for Wisconsin.

 UPDATE:

Ted Cruz drew a crowd of 10,000 to the launch of his presidential campaign because student attendance was mandatory. A candidate who claims to love freedom spoke at a university where his audience was forced to watch him.

According to National Journal: Sen. Ted Cruz took the stage to declare his presidential candidacy at Liberty University Monday, surrounded by upwards of 10,000 cheering students.

They weren’t all here by choice. Attendance at convocation at Liberty is mandatory, and a group of students clad in “Stand With Rand” shirts sat center stage—directly in view of the cameras—to log their displeasure with having to be here. -- Politicussusa

Because nothing screams LIBERTY! like FORCING thousands of people to listen to you talking about yourself and your special idea of LIBERTY! LOL! What a joke!

  1. So Tail Gunner Teddy promises to deprive 20 million Americans of their health care? Oh yeah. Nice rhetoric that plays well to the rubes, but notice how Tail Gunner Teddy doesn't say one thing about what and how he'll replace the ACA. Not one word. He's all mouth and no teeth.

I wonder when The Donald will ask to see the birth certificate. Also did you know Tail Gunner Teddy's father fought for Fidel Castro? I wonder when the Baggers will scream COMMIE! after hearing that just the way they did about Obama's mother and father.

  2. My Governor, the Dummy??? check this out....Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said that “the most significant foreign policy decision of my lifetime” was Ronald Reagan’s aggressive response to an air traffic controllers strike in 1981, Vox reports.

....as President.....he would finally get Prince Albert out of the can, too.

  3. Anon, i've ben waiting for years to see how the GOP partisans who support Cruz would explain away the similarities with Barack Obama.

The real difference, besides Obama being black and a dem, is that Obama had more legislative experience when he ran than Cruz, and that was never deemed enough by many.

Now instead of intellectual honesty and an admission of such, we will hear **crickets** on this subject from the right.

I hope at least someone on the right asks for his US birth certificate. Oh wait, he actually doesn't have one.

  4. Cruz made the formal announcement of his candidacy at the Falwell family’s evangelical enterprise, Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

At Liberty, founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, they don’t teach evolution; they teach what their website calls a “robust, Young-Earth creationist view of Earth history.”

  6. To commemorate Ted’s announcement, I suggest we eliminate the last letter of the alphabet and replace it with the letter ‘D.’ Hereafter the following words will change from Zing, Zipper, and Cruz ... to Ding, Dipper and Crud.

  7. Dave,

No the wingers won't talk about Rafael's bc. That sort of thing worries them only if it's about a bi-racial guy whose first name is Barack and who is a Democrat, not a real American like Rafael Cruz, who was born on foreign soil.

The wingers also won't talk about Rafael's parents' previous marriages and divorces the way they talked about Obama's parents' marriages and divorces. Somehow, in their little cramped minds, when their heroes' parents divorce and remarry, it's sacred so it keeps their divorces and marriages pure, unlike those gay people who are destroying marriage. LOL!

Seriously, it's difficult to keep a straight face and not fall over laughing at all of this fabulous TeaPublican hypocrisy that they'll be forced to eat with a steaming side order of well-deserved schadenfreude.

  8. Contradictions conveniently overlooked.

You are used to it by now, right?

  9. Cruz threw his hat in the ring?
That explains the beanie with the propeller there.

  10. Really 20 million lose health insurance from ACA.
That seems a little extreme because only 9 million signed up.

Another Bush vs Clinton race is to far over the top to consider.

The GOP has a legacy to uphold and with Cruz they are keeping to history. Take a win and ruin it. Cruz is no more qualified than obama so we could expect the same results.
The only viable is not going to run, Houseman.

I would like to have an opportunity to vote for a person I want than vote against a person I don't. Hasn't happened since Reagan but there is always hope.

  11. "Cruz is no more qualified than obama..."

    REally skud? Really?

Well you're delirious and so consumed by your hatred of Obama that you fail completely to understand this:

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE VOTED FOR OBAMA TWICE, SO THEY COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH YOUR PARTISAN WHINE that Mr. Obama is not qualified. You simply can't accept that Barack Hussein Obama was elected by more than 50% of the vote. You just can't internalize that fact.

    Too bad.

The rest of the country has moved on and accepted that.

Rafael Cruz was elected by a bunch of conservatives in Texas.

Obama was elected by MILLIONS of Americans all over the country because they wanted him and his policies.

    Get over it.

  12. BTW, who the hell is Houseman?

    This guy? Are you serious?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that the American people will not want a gay-bashing, climate-denying, theocratic right-winger to lead this country

  13. "Liberty Students Would Have Been Fined If They Skipped Cruz's Speech"

    Right.

If you don't come and cheer my speech, you're gonna pay!

    L.I.B.E.R.T.Y.! Ted Cruz style.

    Show up or get fined!.

    Bwahahahaha!

  14. I think that's accurate, Shaw.

He plays in Texas and a few other strongholds of the wing nut fringe but the Teabags just don't have broad appeal despite what Rush and Faux Snooze want to project.

  15. This is the situation with Cruz. His father was a Cuban citizen when Cruz was born, his mother was American and he, unlike Obama, actually wasn't born in the US and held a dual citizenship with Canada until last year.

All of that makes him perfectly eligible to be president, of course. But the idea that these right wingers are a-ok with Cruz's circumstances after having made such a spectacle of themselves over Obama shows them to be ... hypocrites. Shocker, I know.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm gonna guess Skud was thinking of Jon Huntsman ,
    a Republican who stands where
    Republicans used to--
""To be clear. I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy."
The Party has swung far to the right of him.

  17. Twink: Donald Trump is raising the issue, and I've heard of rank-and-file baggots grumbling about this as well. Of course, to me, Cruz is an example of the fluidity of identity which is part of what's best about this country -- what could be more American than a Canadian-born Latino reinventing himself as a Southern redneck? But the racism suppurating under the skin of much of the Republican base could actually be a real problem for any non-white Republican who joins the Presidential nomination race -- or even for a white man with a Spanish-sounding name.

  18. I see lots and lots of popcorn in the near future.

  19. Shaw, I think Skud is referencing John Huntsman... way too centrist for the GOP...

Free twinkie... like you, I too am waiting for the Cruz groupies to explain this contradiction...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Fickle finger of fate, John Huntsman. The problem is he is far to logical to ever win for any party but is the best choice out there.

I do disagree with the opinion the people voted obama in twice. They voted in the first black president in the first go round and against the over the top rich guy the second.

No one can ever doubt the democrat's ability to poison a candidate and turn opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  21. "I do disagree with the opinion the people voted obama in twice. They voted in the first black president in the first go round and against the over the top rich guy the second."

You can disagree all your little heart desires, but it doesn't alter the fact that Mr. Obama won an avalanche of electoral votes both times and over 51% of the popular vote both times.

From Bloomberg: "The president nationally won 65.9 million votes -- or 51.1 percent -- against Republican challenger Mitt Romney, who took 60.9 million votes and 47.2 percent of the total cast, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Obama is the first president to achieve the 51 percent mark in two elections since Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower, who did it in 1952 and 1956, and the first Democrat to do so since Franklin D. Roosevelt, who won four consecutive White House races. Roosevelt received 53.4 percent of the vote -- his lowest -- in his last race in 1944."

Now you can attribute any motive you want to Mr. Obama's historic wins, but to be honest with yourself you need to face the fact that those motives are fueled by your hatred of Obama, not by facts or evidence, which you do not supply to back up your paranoid assertions. So they count for nothing, IMO.

Political pundits have been saying for decades that the GOP will have a difficult time winning national elections because of their opposition to so many minorities and their issues: women, African-Americans, Latinos, gays, etc.

Just look at the guy who just announced his candidacy: Cruz wants a federal ban on gay marriage (Equal Protection) so that bigotry is encoded in our Constitution.

Never doubt a Republicans' ability to poison their candidacies and turn people of good will against them.

Outside of Texas and the fevered hopes of some TeaPublicans, Ted Cruz is a joke. A very bad one, at that.
