For those who think adoption/foster care is an option for red state-forced pregnancies:

Children in foster care in the U.S.:

Leisa Thompson:

Pro Lifer: Well the mother should just give the baby up for adoption if she doesn’t want the baby

Me: So who will adopt the baby?

PL: I don’t know there’s lots of couples who want to adopt

Me: Do you know any couple who is waiting to adopt?

PL: Um well not personally but like I know there’s lots of people waiting to adopt.

Me: Do you know what a domestic adoption costs?

PL: I don’t know. $15,000 maybe?

Me: The average cost of domestic adoption in the United States is $70,000 if you go through a private agency.

PL: Oh I didn’t realize it was that much

Me: Yep it’s really expensive. It can be more if you want a newborn straight from the hospital. Up to $120,000.

PL: Well all life is precious.

Me: it really is. I’ve adopted through foster care and am currently a licensed foster parent. Would you be interested in becoming a foster parent yourself?

PL: Oh no I couldn’t do it.

Me: Why not?

PL: It would just be too much for me right now.

Me: Why is that?

PL: It would be too hard to handle all the issues that came with it. I’ve heard horror stories.

Me: Yep it can be extremely difficult. But what if I told you that you were required by law to become a foster parent?

PL: what?

Me: what if you had to become a foster parent by law?

PL: they would never do that. That would never happen.

Me: Well, if a woman is forced to bear a child she doesn’t want, and she goes ahead and has that child, someone has to care for the child either through adoption or foster care. You have to do one of those two things.

PL: But I don’t want any more kids.

Me: So you don’t want someone forcing you to have a child in your home that you don’t want or aren’t able to care for?

PL: no, that’s not my job to raise someone else’s child.

There it is, folks. Have the baby, but we don’t want anything to do with it afterwards.

But, let’s ban abortion.

  1. Bingo.

Once the infant pops out of mother their forgotten by the self righteous pro lifers. At that point it becomes someone elses problem. After all, the pro lifers have done their job as they see it.

What a group of flaming hypocrites.

  3. I've thought about looking up the stats on the total number of kids in foster care before. Thanks for the info. This post hits the nail on the hypocrite's head.

  4. Elizabeth, "Still better than killing a human life but hey, if one can live with themself after committing murder I pray to God they repent and beg forgiveness. God does not like ugly."

Elizabeth, you're using incendiary language for what is a medical procedure -- in some states.

If you really believe abortion is committing murder, tell me why since R v. W was passed in 1973, NO ONE HAS BEEN PUT ON TRIAL FOR MURDER? Because it is "murder" in the eyes of vengeful people who want to vilify and punish anyone who has an abortion for ANY reason and WITHOUT KNOWING THE PERSONAL REASONS FOR DOING SO.

"Judge not lest ye be judged." Do you, Elizabeth, know every reason for every abortion procedure? Do you know every girl's or woman's circumstance for seeking an abortion? If not, why do you and many others like you condemn, judge, and accuse girls and women of "committing murder?" A terrible, terrible accusation!

Do you ever consider what could happen to girls and women who get labeled "murderers" by zealots who know nothing about their lives or circumstances?

"Judge not lest ye be judged" is pretty good advice to live by. It was given to you by your Savior. Why do you and so many ignore it?

You claim to be a righteous and godly woman, yet you continue to use incendiary language that is incorrect, and it appears you do so in order to incite people's anger, and possible violence, against those who seek abortions. Why do you incite hatred like that? I'm curious.

A godly person, IMO, and in my experience, doesn't do such things. Ever. So I wonder why you do, since I take what you say about your beliefs and religious fervor seriously. Where is your compassion and withholding of judgment in these instances?

You fervor would be, IMO, better used for encouraging the use of birth control, thus making abortion safe and RARE.

I have seen this sort of vengeful language in other religions -- Islam, for one example, and the mullahs and imams take delight in killing those who do not comply with their religious rules.

Elizabeth: "God does not like ugly."

I'm curious how you, or anyone, knows what God likes or dislikes.

It is my opinion that judging people, whose lives and circumstances you don't know, is rather ugly, especially when labeling them "murderers."

  5. Gosh Elizabeth, perhaps you, or another, can explain how it is that god loved the Christians who burnt alleged witches at the stake.

Or perhaps you, or another, can explain how it is that god loved the Christians who enslaved his children of color.

Maybe you, or another, can explain how it is that god loved the slave owners who beat, raped, and lynched his children of color.

I've often wondered who it might have been god spoke to when she/he told them a group of cells (the zygote) was considered a human life by her/him. Perhaps it was you Elizabeth?

Neither Christ nor his teachings encourage such inhumane tratment of people as the christofascists of America seem to beleve they do.

I anxiously await your reply Elizabeth. Who knows, maybe you'll "enlighten" me.

  6. Roe v. Wade was passed Shaw with a dissenting opinion by Chief Justice Renquist. It is not legal according to the 14th Amendment and has now been rectified by sending the issue of abortion back to the states where our Founding Fathers wanted 'we the people' to have the power to make decisions not the federal government running this nation as it has been for 50 years, hence the term 'Nanny States' looking for the feds to bail them out or SCOTUS to decide because of the immorality of this nation that existed then and exists today.

    1) NO God does not like UGLY.

    2) How do I know what God likes and/or dislikes; THE BIBLE AND YOU SHOULD READ IT SHAW.

    3) It is not judging people. People who perform abortions and have then needlessly are murders. FULL STOP!

  7. God also doesn't much dig hypocrisy or condescension if memory serves. Something about logs and motes and not judging. I guess if you've got an R after your name it puts you on par with God so you get to speak for Him and judge others... Who knew?

  8. The same fight we went through 50 years ago. We will not win this this time.

  9. Elizabeth: "3) It is not judging people. People who perform abortions and have then needlessly are murders. FULL STOP!"

But Elizabeth, I pointed out that if abortion were "murder," then girls, women, and their doctors would have been charged as murderers. They weren't and are not. So calling them murderers is a judgment on your part. And a cruel one.

If, as I've read in your comment, abortion should be available -- "In cases of rape, incest, severe deformity of an embryo/fetus, or ectopic pregnancy endangering a woman's life" is allowable in your opinion, then you're telling us that "murder" is allowable in certain cases. But "murder" can NEVER be allowable in any case.

Murder is a crime, but your comment says you're willing to allow abortion/murder -- your term, "murder" in special cases.

You need to think that through. Murder -- your term -- is NEVER allowable. So I'm a bit confused about your thinking on this.

Here's the definition of "murder" in the dictionary:

"the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another."

Up until the SCOTUS threw out R v. W in June, and left it to the states, no girl or woman, and no doctor who performed an abortion were ever indicted or stood trial for murder.

You are passionately opposed to abortion -- what you term "murder," but you're willing to accept "murder" under certain conditions.

    It's very, very confusing.

Either you believe abortion is murder IN ALL CASES or in none. You can't have it both ways.

  10. Elizabeth, would you advocate imprisoning women who have abortions? That would include women who've had abortions in the past. No statute of limitations on murder. How about executing them since an abortion is premeditated 'murder'? About 30% of pregnancies end by miscarriage. Is it fair for me to think you believe life begins at conception? Each life is a gift from God? If so, isn't your God committing murder? Is there any teaching in the bible attributed to Jesus that condemns abortion? I can't find any. The old testament doesn't treat the death of a fetus as murder.

So, what should be done with those loose, ignorant, murdering Jezebels? Inquiring minds.

  11. How the hell does anyone know what god said? Was anyone there Elizabeth. Really, men wrote the bible, both old and new. And they did a damn fine job of creating god in their own image. Then, they wrote the new testament about Jesus and continue to do a damn fine job of ignoring it. Except on Sunday, Christmas, and Easter.

Your argument is a reufied regurgatation of all you've been told and believe without question.

  12. Elizabeth is playing god by defining words to fit her religious beliefs and imposing universal conformity to HER definition.

A fertilized egg is not a human person. No brain. No limbs. No heart. No sex organs. No name. No consciousness.

This is not a person, by law nor science.

Science says it is a zygote.

A zygote is a single-celled organism resulting from a fertilized egg. The zygote divides to become a ball of cells that eventually implants in the wall of the uterus. This ball of cells, known as a blastocyst, develops into the embryo and placenta.

None of these are persons. Again, no brain. No limbs. No heart. No sex organs. No name. No consciousness.

Now let's say a fertilized egg is a human person.

Elizabeth goes out and orders a chicken dinner. The waiter brings her a poached fertilized egg, saying, "Here's your chicken".

Would she enjoy her "chicken" dinner, or have egg on her face?
