The Highland Park Massacre

To all you 2nd Amendment fetishers: You and the NRA are responsible for this carnage:

"The little boy who was found bloodied during the Highland Park parade shooting on Monday and lifted from underneath his father is left orphaned after both is parents were killed in the gruesome attack.

Kevin McCarthy, 37, and Irina McCarthy, 35, were among the seven people killed during the Fourth of July celebration.

Their two-year-old son, Aiden McCarthy, had been separated from his parents during the chaos and luckily unharmed. He has been placed in the care of his grandparents."

This NEVER happened when I was growing up. But then the criminal NRA and the cowardly politicians, Dems and Trumpublicans, were not afraid of the NRA. This is happening now because we are drowning in firearms.

We are seen worldwide as an insane people who continue to allow the slaughter of our own citizens for a misreading of the 2nd Amendment.

What kind of a country allows the inhuman slaughter of its own citizens for a stupid reading of something that was written in the 18th century when firearms were not as lethal as an AR-15 and its ilk?

We can stop this. Why do we allow it?

  2. Shaw, et al...

Before we hear how this is a mental health issue, let's stop and take a breath. There are people all around the world with mental health issues. And they don't for the most part go out and shoot up schools, parades, churches, markets and more.

What is it in America that drives people, or enables people here to attack people like this?

I ask this question all the time of conservatives I know and the answer generally comes back to a glassy stare off into the distance while they answer with these words...

    "I don't know."

I then ask them how we can stop or lessen these tragedies, and then I hear...

    "I don't think we can."

It's as if in the brain of conservatives, they know the answer, but because of their love of guns, cannot bring themselves to utter the words they know to be true.

    It's the guns.

Until America gets a handle on that, nothing will change.

Thanks to conservatives and the GOP.

  3. Shaw I am originally from Chicago and quite familiar with the liberal laws in Illinois. I do believe in the 2nd Amendment, but having said that I also believe there should be BANS on the types of guns people are allowed to purchase. This is absolutely inexcusable.

We cannot rewrite the Constitution as that is our foundation. Should we do that we lose our grounding and all hell will break loose. That is why the founding fathers left room for adjustments and amendments. The problem is not our constitution -- it is people breaking laws and those selling weapons of mass destruction. They should be hung like in the 1800s -- the whole lot of them! EVIL!

  4. Elizabeth, this country prohibited the sale of AR-15 type firearms and massacres of the type we witnessed last month and on July 4 decreased. George W. Bush let that prohibition laps e and the sales of weapons of mass murder were allowed to be sold again, and it's been a blood bath of carnage ever since. And it will continue again and again and again.

Yes, we can AMEND the Constitution. We have done that throughout our history. We can and must do it again.

This is a manmade problem, and men and women can solve it. But that takes courage, which, IMO, is completely lacking in our leaders.
    :
Just look at what we're learning from recent testimonies, under oath, about J6. Mark Meadows, for example -- a feckless, cowardly wimp who was more concerned about enraging a mental midget, Donald Trump, than protecting Americans and upholding his oath to the Constitution. Meadows will be remembered as a man who sold out his country for a Liar, a Cheat, and a Fraud.

  6. Well Elizabeth, you'll find few here who will disagree with you on your statement that "there should be BANS on the types of guns people are allowed to purchase. This is absolutely inexcusable."

The problem is there is literally no one on the other sites you frequent who will agree with you. In fact, they will fight you tooth and nail every step of the way.

There is in fact leeway in the constitution to do this.

Over the years the SCOTUS has upheld various gun bans and allowed cities across the land to completely ban guns, so access has never been seen as a 100% accessible right until recently.

But again, float your views with Silver, CI, AOW, Warren, Geeez and more and see what happens. I don't think they'll appreciate your thoughts.

  7. Shaw I agree completely. Bush did a bang-up job in many ways. The worst was the Iraq war, the Patriot Act (spying on decent citizens), and lastly, the gun procedures that were banned and then lifted. Sick! Do 'the people' really have a say with so many morons running our nation. They ignore us no matter what we say or what we propose and honestly I am very sick of it all.

  8. Dave, I did not say ban ALL guns. I said the banning of certain types of guns 'causing mass destruction.' I do not care if "Silver, CI, AOW, Warren, Geeez agree with me." The last time I checked we can all be free thinkers. I am not part of a 'group think.' I think for myself.

  9. Elizabeth... the point being, besides I never mentioned banning all guns, is that few conservatives seem to agree with you on guns. Thus, we will never see any real change.

It is literally, the people for whom you vote and support, who are holding this up.

Unless and until we see the conservative base in the US step up and demand change on this issue, nothing can happen.
