YOUR SUNDAY MOMENT OF ZEN

  1. President Carter had many faults, but being a good Christian was not one of them. He said he prays for Trump every day.

  2. He may have been an ineffective president, but, Jimmy Carter accomplished more of real true value in his post presidency in a single year than the Bible hawking golden sneakers Orange Nightmare has accomplished his entire miserable selfish life.

  3. I voted for Ford. Jimmy had his chance to take out Iran and nip the Middle East Wars in the bud. His Christianity got in the way.

  4. He was a horrible president surpassed only by the current one. They do share a lot of the same accomplishments. Made military decisions which resulted in American deaths, increased inflation so the middle class would suffer, brought housing construction to a slow pace, made owning a home difficult, made gasoline so expensive and difficult to get. He was inspirational in one regard and that is taking airlines to travel to save fuel. Of course AF1 and backup followed them but it was a cute jester.

  5. Had American Christianity (as Jesus taught it, not as how it is practiced by Americans and Europeans today) in the first place there would likely never have been a radical Islamic revolution as it played out. Our ignorance fueled the hatred of the extremists jc.

  7. Les, I do have a couple of question about your comment. Did carter and biden make a military decision that resulted in American deaths, did inflation increase by a significant amount during both of their administrations, did housing prices increase and mortgage rates make a mortgage unobtainable for many, did gas prices increase during both administrations.
With jimmy I do remember his fire side chats and his taking commercial airlines to show he was all in for saving fuel. It was a symbolic move but just that like Reagan saying tear down this wall it was just optics with no real meaning.
Nice try and Buddah would be proud of you.

    1. Skud, if you look at the overall numbers, you will discover that the economy always does better under Democratic administrations. Fact. But you don’t look at facts, only “feelings.”

  8. What we learned in this thread so far:

Joe Con is really Joe Neo-Con. He didn't get a war with Iran he wanted. Was he happy with Iraq?

Skud thinks Carter and Biden are "more horrible" than Trump. Always exclusively blaming Democrats for everything, and again revealing his authoritarian personality, in his dismissal and minimizing of Trump's racism, sex offenses, divisive Big Lie, incitement and abetting violent insurrection, other CRIMINAL attempts to STEAL the 2020 election, and his stealing, withholding, negligent mishandling, and obstructing the return of secret documents after multiple requests and fair warning to return them.

    1. Nope. I'm Joe PaleoCon. We aren't in favour of all wars like the NeoCons. Only the "just" ones. Like those that involve "diplomatic hostages".

    2. JC,
I see. So you also blame Bush I for his backdoor deal to delay the hostages' release until after he won? You "favoured" all out war with Iran instead?

And you also opposed Bush/Cheney's invasion of Iraq, but agreed with the Neo-Cons that Iran should have been invaded?

Sorry, I get confused by your foreign accent. :-)

    3. Just war is an oxymoron.

War is ignorance. Nothing just about it.

How can anyone compete against a left wing network like CBS and 60 minutes.
CBS admits editing 60 Minutes Kamala Harris interview to make her answer ‘more succinct, in other words to make her sound coherent.
You say war is ignorance yet you support someone who got the US involved in three of them. Seems like you are confused.

Trump supports Israel's war with Hamas. Biden and the allies supports Ukraine in is war against Putin's aggression.

  13. skud got an excellent answer but because it wasn't exactly as they expected they huffed and puffed and then threw the father of all hissy fits. Apparently reality isn't matching up to their sincerely held beliefs.

RE: CBS - they not only released VP Harris's answers and comments in full form but explained why they edited for brevity. CBS edited every interview they've conducted with every candidate for president for fifty years. That's Five Zero skud but yeah, they changed their entire methodology because... reasons. Gotcha skud.

Succinct adjective (especially of something written or spoken) briefly and clearly expressed.
Coherent adjective (of an argument, theory, or policy) logical and consistent.

I'd say both words describe every Harris interview. And I just figured out why humans like Trump and skud truly believe VP Harris is stupid - they can't understand the words she speaks; in other words she's too intelligent for them. They need her to pull her dress over her head and giggle like a little girl and tell those big brawny manly men that she's just silly. I might have some experience in these things.

Giving skud the benefit of the doubt I googled presidents/three wars and got a bunch of information but nothing that matches what skud wrote here. For the record Congress last declared war, well long enough ago that it's not the topic of conversation here/now. Oh, I have an idea of what the MAGA sphere is blathering on about but their definitions don't match reality. Again, imagine my surprised face that MAGA folks lied.

When they come out of the bubble of the cult they will have a reorientation period that won't be pretty. Looking back at all the harm you've caused those you love and the crap you easily believed isn't a process for the weak. When I left the cult I'd been sucked into if I'd not had my True Love to keep me grounded I wouldn't be here now - truth. My knight in shining black leather saved me in so many ways that day.

On topic - my harsh opinion of Jimmy Carter softened the more I learned of his presidency and the more I learned of how Reagan absolutely threw him under the bus in order to win his own election. Reagan lied and then continued to lie, about AIDS, Iran, and so many other things. Seems to be a pattern with the GOP.

I think that quote fits people like skud. For example, he always brings up Reagan as an example of what this country needs in the presidency.

He completely ignores the fact that Reagan's administration was one of the most corrupt in post war American history, yet he thinks this is what we need!

    2. Shaw, skud is the poster child for many MAGA humans, most who refuse to admit that they are indeed MAGA.

I, to my shame, voted for Reagan because, well actor, which to me meant he would stand up for the LGBTQAI+ community. Wow was I wrong, incorrect, and totally misguided. I lost so many of my people in that era and I know I'm not alone in this fact. To my credit I see the GOP for exactly who they are today.

  14. Ms. Shaw, I look for a leader by their performance not by their personality. Most strong leaders are brash and self centered. Some learn to play well with others and some do not, trump is in the do not category.

Grey, Vietnam, Korea were not wars but were referred to as such so you are correct Gaza, Syria, Iran, Afghanistan are not wars but conflicts refereed to as wars. Fits the same type of reference as border czar.
I do applaud you for being kamala like in your response. Edited for brevity turned out to be cut the word salad to fit their narrative. It was not only edited it was totally changed.

Reagan had a lot to throw under the bus with jimmy. 21% interest rates, gas shortages, military personal killed in a conflict.
As to Reagan throwing jimmy under the bus he just used Carters decisions against him.
I just looked under the bus and there was Biden not Carter.

    1. On October 23,1983, 41 years ago this week, under Reagan's watch, suicide bombers attacked the barracks of the U.S. and French contingents of the MNF, killing 241 American servicemen.

During 2022, by which time the U.S. had left Afghanistan, there was not a single death caused by "hostile action," according to DCAS. However, 13 were killed in one deadly bombing the year before, during the messy withdrawal from the country.

Under Trump, military deaths by hostile actions: 65. SOURCE: US Defense Casualty Analysis System

Fewer U.S. Troops Died in Combat Under Biden-Harris Than Trump

"Trump’s most extravagant lie is that the Democratic administration are warmongers, and he was a peacemaker. In the last full 18 months of Trump's presidency, starting in July 2019, there were 12 combat deaths reported in Afghanistan. Throughout Trump's entire term, 45 combat deaths were reported in Afghanistan. "--CBS News

Skud never lets us forget about the messy withdrawal from Afghanistan by the Biden administration.

Never once does he EVER mention the deaths of the 251 US Marines 43 years ago this week in Lebanon under Reagan's watch. He uses his voice to criticize ONLY Democratic presidents and the tragedies of military engagements around the world.

He often is nostalgic for a Reagan-like presidency -- a presidency that was corrupt and had 241 military casualties.

The smart thing to do would be to keep one's criticism to oneself when talking about which administration oversaw the most military tragedies. The Republicans' records are nothing to be proud of.

  15. In armed conflict life is destroyed. Property is destroyed. Economies can be destroyed.

You can dress it up however you and others wish skud. But it's like putting lipstick on a pig

It is and has always been war. Death. Destruction. Ignorance in its purest form skud.

  16. Les, Sorry I was not the one who questioned our commitment to wars. That would be Grey.
Grey, LGBTQA1+xyz did not exist under Reagan. Back then we had two sexes, Male and Female and two distinctions straight and gay. Women were treated with reverence and title 9 gave them an equal number of sports to compete in. Tough to keep track of how many we have today because it keeps changing and the left is determined to eliminate female athletics..

  17. Shall we polish each grain of sand? Official wars are declared by Congress. Supporting ones allies by sending supplies is not 'being in a war' unless the US Military has boots on the ground. Korea was a Military Action, not an official war.

And through it all is death and destruction, something that is also common to an event which happens too frequently here in the States - the school shootings. Death and destruction is death and destruction no matter what you call it.

We The People could stop much of the death and destruction here at home but it takes discipline, empathy, and compassion, or in other words it ain't easy.

And echoes from the Universe say if it was easy, everyone would already be doing it.

  19. Grey, Yes the community always existed but when did they adopt LGBTQIA + until 1996 or 1998. according to Wiki "From about 1988, activists began to use the initialism LGBT in the United States."
Reagan was president from 1981-1989 so, as I stated, it did not exist under his presidency.

JFC Skud, LEARN SOMETHING! The activism came long before the acronym. Your point is a deflection. In 1924, Henry Gerber founded the first gay rights organization in America: The Society for Human Rights.

By 1969 the community was still persecuted.

      https://www.history.com/topics/gay-rights/the-stonewall-riots

The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid sparked a riot among bar patrons and neighborhood residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement outside the bar on Christopher Street, in neighboring streets and in nearby Christopher Park. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.

“There Were Rapes!”: Sexual Assaults of African American Women and Children in Jim Crow

      Abstract
Using data from 92 interviews, this article examines the narratives of African Americans’ experiences as children and young adults during Jim Crow in the Southeast and Southwest. It gives voice to the realities of sexual assaults committed by ordinary White men who systematically terrorized African American families with impunity after the post-Reconstruction south until the 1960s. The interviewees discuss the short- and long-term impact of physical, mental, emotional, and sexual assaults in their communities. We discuss the top four prevalent themes that emerged related to sexual assault, specifically (a) the normalization of sexual assaults, (b) protective measures to avoid White violence, (c) the morality of African American women, and (d) the long-term consequences of assaults on children.
