  1. The worst is yet to come. The worst will of course be the direct results of the Orange Felon's tariffs, among his other ill-begotten decisions.

  2. Every major US News org, including FOX [though it's buried on about page 27 of their web site] is reporting this. Seems pretty accurate.

Wait til we see the 2nd quarter numbers.

  3. Ignorance is bliss eh Joe Con? I guess MAGA is apparently proving ignorance is bliss.

    1. That summary Shaw posted from the BEA... same source... but summarized from details contained therein in an "alternate" (good) instead of "alternate" (bad) way.

  4. Companies proactively purchased massive amounts of products in advance of the tariffs leading to an overall increase in imports of 41.3%. Which results in a 5.3% deduction to GDP. Every dollar of those imports is a deduction to the GDP equation, giving the false appearance of lower domestic production.

  5. -FJ... does your source explain why those companies chose to "front load" their purchases and what their CEO's are expecting that led them to those purchasing decisions?

  6. Well Thersites, if those numbers are accurate, and I have no reason to dispute them, because I've seen them everywhere, then imagine how bad the rest of the economy must be to have contracted for the first time since the pandemic.

I reckon, and we can all come back to this post in another three months, that when the 2nd Q numbers come in, we'll see even more contraction since all the purchases were baked in the 1 Q numbers.

Now answer me this... why is it I am so willing to accept the numbers you presented, and yet you and your minions won't do the same? Notice I did not dispute them at all. Hardly the benefit us lefties get from MAGA.

    Why is that?

    1. The numbers came from the exact same source. Why can't you accept them, since they prove that the domestic economy did fantastic. the only bad number which counted negatively was "imports". And in a years time, all those negative numbers will transform into positive domestic numbers.
