From the original town that emphatically said NO! to King George.
We now say NO! to King Donnie!
And there are millions and millions of us saying that today all over America!
Boston's Old State House from which the Declaration of Independence was read on July 18, 1776.
No Kings... reminds me why we declared our independence from England back in the day... And to bring it home, here are just a few of the grievances of our nascent nation towards the king of those days.
ReplyDelete"He [King George III] has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good."
"He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.”
"He has endeavored to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.”
"He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.”
"He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures."
"He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:”
"For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:"
"For imposing taxes [tariffs] on us without our consent:”
"For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Jury trial"
Here's a few questions for the more conservative folks who post here...
ReplyDeleteIs it wrong for the American people to be critical of the president?
Is it wrong for Americans to hold protest rallies against government policies with which they disagree?
Are people who disagree with a president always Anti American?
If not, how do we make that distinction?
Do Americans have a right to peaceably assemble and protest without government interference.
Asking for some friends...
Sound very much like the self anointed King Donnie's present agenda. To which his fawning subjects are giddy over.
ReplyDeleteFascists, everyone one of them.
David, I would be happy to answer your five questions
ReplyDelete1. Of course not unless it is about obama then if you disagree you are a racist
2. Of course not that is free speech which we once enjoyed but have given up
3. Of course not and even if you are Anti-American That is your right
4. There is not distinction just different opinions
5. Of course again free speech as long as it is non violent which breaking into government buildings and burning businesses would be considered violent
Question for you
Does the president have too much power.
Should they be able to pardon people convicted of a crime by a court
Should they be able to grant immunity from prosecution for acts the haven't committed.
Skud...
ReplyDelete1. Yes, the office of the presidency now has amassed too much unchecked power, outside I believe, of what the Constitution allows.
2. The Constitution grants that's authority to the president for federal crimes. My opinion matters not. I believe in and support the Constitution.
3. This is a gray area, still to be adjudicated. Pres Ford claimed the presidency had this authority and no one challenged it. Biden did the same and now it appears his decision will be challenged. In a world of honorable men, I'd say yes, sometimes it's needed for the good of the country. But then some presidents choose to more self dealing than others. So this is a hard call.
I'm sad that even in answering my questions, you were unable to keep your disgust for Obama out of it.
David, ford pardoned a president to stop the political retribution and fighting. Biden pardoned his entire family to keep them from being indicted for corruption, big difference.
ReplyDeleteAnytime I posted any issue with obama I was called a racist. He attacked small business and I do take that personally. He attacked the middle class and I take that personally. When I posted objections the response was your a racist. He was a special interest president and as long as it is your interest you are fine with that.
If Obama did indeed "attack" small businesses and if he indeed "attack" the middle class and I "acknowledge" that that is "so", please tell me just WHO and WHAT it is the tRump the malevolent Fuhrer of America is really attacking.
DeleteAnd undocumented people and "crime" is a given. Please go deeper. Inquiring minds want to know.
Skud... let's face it, you want to be contrary. I've posted many many times responding to you. Sometimes I've been wrong and I've even mentioned numerous times on this site where I felt Trump was getting a bad rap. When I've been wrong, I apologized to you. I don't believe I've ever called you a racist. I've criticized your views or opinions as such, but not you personally.
ReplyDeleteIf you wanted to talk about Biden and his son, which you do, when you posed your question, you should have phrased it in a way that exclude what Ford, IMO, rightfully did. But you did not. You correctly, in a non political way, your question about presidential pardons into the future.
But you did not. Just like you made your answers to my question a place to argue your politics. Why would you do that, unless you wanted to make your point.
Now I get we all have points we want to make, myself included.
In my questions I wondered if you, or any of the other conservatives here could simply offer a simple yes or no question to my questions. That's why I phrased them as I did. Because I do not believe most MAGA and Trump supporters are set in their views.
I believe most of that crowd will jettison their views after he leves office and adopt another view in order to win an election.
And that's OK. Just not consistent. Just like the Dems have done for years.
