Well, this is a first in my lifetime. An American president has stated that he is NOT committed to a peaceful transition of power should he lose the election. In fact, he implied that there is no way he will lose the election because: "Get rid of the ballots..."
What in the name of our Founding Fathers does that mean?
Where are the people who support this president now that he's made such an anti-American, anti-Constitutional threat? Are they still talking about Joe Biden's son, Hunter? Hillary Clinton's emails? BENGHAZI!? President Obama's "57 states?"
Nothing any of the above-named Democrats said or suggested comes near to what Trump said yesterday.
"This was no typical Trump provacation: Acceding to the will of the people is the lynchpin of American democracy." --NYTimes
Refusing to commit to a peaceful transition of power should you lose is in itself a threat of violence.Yet, the leader of the GOP has no idea of how America's representative democracy works. He's a natural-born authoritarian, and admires the world's strongmen/authoritarians (He's never uttered an unkind word about Putin). And he wants another four years to FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE AMERICA from a representative democracy to authoritarian rule.
Listen to his words. Listen to what they mean.
Adam Schiff: “The second tell in Trump’s statement is that Trump’s lawyers confirmed to Gellman that their strategy is to leverage their power in the system to steal the election. Surely, they would want to keep that plan quiet… unless they are hoping to convince voters that the game is so fully rigged there is no point in showing up to vote.
ReplyDeleteTrump’s statement is abhorrent, and we must certainly be prepared for chaos surrounding this election. But never forget that Trump’s campaign, which-- according to our intelligence agencies-- is being helped by Russian disinformation, is keen on convincing Americans that our system doesn’t work, our democracy is over, and there is no point in participating in it. If you believe them, their disinformation is a self-fulfilling prophecy, despite the fact that a strong majority of Americans prefers Biden to Trump.”
ReplyDeleteWASHINGTON — More than 200 retired generals and admirals endorsed Joe Biden for president in a letter published Thursday, saying he had the character and judgment to serve as commander-in-chief instead of President Donald Trump, who has failed "to meet challenges large or small."
Some of the officers who signed the letter supporting Biden had retired only in the past few years, including Air Force Gen. Paul Selva, who served as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump before he retired in August 2019; Vice Adm. Gardner Howe, a Navy SEAL leader who also retired last year; and retired Adm. Paul Zukunft, who oversaw the Coast Guard until 2018.
The list of signatories featured 22 retired four-star military officers, among them Navy Adm. Samuel Locklear, who oversaw all U.S. forces in the Pacific from 2012 to 2015, and Adm. Harry Ulrich, who commanded U.S. naval forces in Europe during President George W. Bush's administration.

I joined a party that believed in rule of law and the Constitution. I left a criminal conspiracy called the Republican Party. It was easy. It was all a lie.
IMO, he got what he deserved.
ReplyDeleteAnd in mine, so much more.
If, as I've believed will happen for several months, trump refuses to vacate the office if Biden wins then the United States Military Special Forces (Delta Team) should move in and physically remove him to a federal pen awaiting trial for sedition against the United States Constitution.
The message must be sent load and clear - NOBODY FUCKS WITH THE US CONSTITUTION. PERIOD. Unless it is through the amendment process or by passage of laws deemed to be constitutional.
Hats off to ya Stuart! It was an easy decision to make. The republican (rethuglican) party is exactly that today. A party which the old Costra Nostra would be proud to call an ally. Who would have ever believed 50 years ago that 40-45% of America would sink so low? But here we are.
ReplyDeleteNo conversation with conservatives about politics should be entered into unless they can state they believe in a peaceful transfer of power after the election, that the loser of our presidential election should concede after the votes are counted, that they believe the vote should be respected, absence of evidence of fraud and that there should be no attempt, by any party to change the laws and electors in states, as Barton Gellman has reported in The Atlantic.
ReplyDeleteRight now we have a president who is unwilling to affirm these principles.
If you can't affirm them, you don't deserve a response to your posts, silly enjoinders, questions or views.
Pure and simple.
It's scary that we have to even bring this up.
So,RN and Dave, have the usual right-wing bloggers brought this shocking statement by Trump up on their blogs? Those are the bloggers who kept on about how President Obama was going to "fundamentally change America." Remember how they excoriated Mr. Obama on that which they misstated?
ReplyDeleteNow here's their president threatening the lynchpin of America's democracy: The peaceful transition of power from one president to another. Trump would not state that he would think of changing this 224-year foundation of transfer of power (when George Washington handed over the presidency in 1796 to John Adams) if he wasn't thinking of "fundamentally changing America."
But I assume his cultists are just fine with that unspeakable unAmerican idea. And that just goes to prove once again that those folks are loyal to a cult leader, not the American Constitution. Their silence proves that.
Re: the booing. It was glorious to see/hear. The only way to get to a malignant narcissist is to humiliate him. Sadly someone at the WH will pay for this - as his fragile ego has been bruised.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteDon’t forget the time he gave a speech to the UN General Assembly where they actually laughed at him for proclaiming all the stupendous things he had done. That was a highlight for me because he never puts himself before anything but a partisan crowd.
Maybe President Bonespurs should try facing reality a little more often. It isn't the media that hates him, it is the majority of the world.
Don't let your head explode because there will be an orderly transfer of power if or when trump loses. Unlike -H- I got cheated tour which lasted three years, after the votes are counted the election will certified and the winner will take his or her seat on the throne.
ReplyDeleteWill we know who that will be before the end of November, doubt it but it will happen. Will trump throw a tantrum like -H- if he loses, Probably but the results will stand. I feel most people will accept a new president and if trump wins there will be a significant number who will go to therapy and never accept him as president.
What bomb will be exposed tomorrow because they seem to be one a day so we still have 40 left.
Shaw asked... "have the usual right-wing bloggers brought this shocking statement by Trump up on their blogs?"
ReplyDeleteHahaha...
How can they? It's just another example of "if Obama had said this..."
Skud... You said Trump will accept the results of the election, so, was Pres lying when he said, and I admit I am paraphrasing, "We'll have to see, if it's legit, I win" in answer to the peaceful transition question?
Or was he just spewing BS to divide the American people?
The very fact that we're all discussing this sober topic means that in some ways America is no longer America. The fact that 24 hours after Trump matter of factly claimed that he wouldn't commit to a peaceful transition of power if ballots he doesn't approve of are counted, ONLY ONE Republican leader has stood up and condemned him, means America is no longer America.
ReplyDeleteIt is crystal clear at this point that if Trump and the same Republicans remain in power, America will completely cease to be the America we all love. It is shameful and deplorable, but that's the reality that we face.
Paula, Many of us understand your feeling. We've watched a bully break all rules of decency and decorum for almost 5 years, and to watch that bully hear what a majority of America thinks of him is satisfying. Trump NEVER leaves his bubble of cultists, and when he did, he got an earful of what America thinks of him.
ReplyDeleteRay, see my comment to Paula above. When Trump ventured outside his bubble, he used tear gas to clear the streets of peaceful demonstrators in order to pose for a photo op holding a Bible. Classic dictator behavior. What Trump heard at the Supreme Court steps yesterday was a hard dose of reality. Trump is NOT beloved by a majority of Americans. He's never been able to break 50% approval by the American people, and during his re-election year, he down in the low 40s. IOW, a majority of Americans disapprove and dislike him!
Dave, I didn't think those far right bloggers would mention this horrendous statement by Trump. Imagine if President Obama has said such an anti-American, anti-Constitutional thing! Again, it's obvious that they're loyal to a cult leader, not the United States of America.
Fed Up, Many Americans agree with your statement, except, of course, Trump Cultists. But we must keep in mind that they are a minority. A majority of Americans reject the tyrant!
Im also “Fed Up” with many of the politicians on the left. We had our chance to take-over the Presidentcy, the House, and possibly even the Senate, but the chose the weakest candidate that we had to run . We had 15 people and the best that we were able to run was a tired weak, old msn who seems to be out of it. Let’s hope that Trump don’t destroy him at the debates.
ReplyDeleteShaw, The "Fed Up" @11:20 is not me. I wrote the comment at 9:15. I saw the 2nd "Fed UP" and decided to sign up for a blog address so there's no confusing the two.
ReplyDeleteI actually don't think Joe Biden is weak, I'm working the phones for him during this election. So don't confuse me with the second "Fed Up." Thanks.
Shaw Im the original “Fed Up”.
ReplyDeleteI have written to you, snd you and you relied to me several times before. I don’t have ant idea who the other Fed Up is, but it was some troll, most likely from the Who's Your Daddy’s blog.
Maybe the other disingenuous fed up is Franco. Or one of the many other sock puppets at WYD.
ReplyDeleteFed Up @ 11:20 and 1:57, The "original" Fed Up who changed his comment name to "Fed Up in Rutland" actually sent me an email a few months ago with his real name. If you are, as you claim, the "original" Fed Up, you can send me an email confirming that real name:
ReplyDeleteshawkenawe@yahoo.com
That will clear this confusion up.
Thank you.
If harris wins the republicans will scream the election was rigged and then they will go to work and accept the new administration.
ReplyDeleteIf trump wins the democrats will scream the election was rigged, go into therapy and riot while announcing he is not my president.
I am not sure trump will win and that is not good but what is worse is if the left takes over the senate. We saw what can happen with the democrats holding all three. They increased healthcare costs for 310 million so they could provide for 9 million. They increased regulations to run small business out of businesses and their leader made ferguson about race so he could start dividing the nation.
When you own the media you own public opinion.
Im Fed Up that the Republicans hard at work trying to steal the election
