At the time Ike was president, liberals really weren't too crazy about him. But as time has gone by, he's looking better and better.
However, someone in a FB comment did bring up the probability that he and the CIA played a role in the murder of Patrice Lumumba. A very cursory search indicates a little controversy here. If true, and I'm not excusing it if it is, I think we have to remember it in the context of the time - a very paranoid time during the Cold War. Yet, even though a military man, this sounds out of character - especially in light of his hesitancy in taking Berlin before the Russians did.
just another thought about Ike.... he was a strident segregationist... and when the Supreme court ruled.... he called out the Guard to enforce the Law. He was willing to subjugate his own personal feelings to the rule of Law.
Bush thought he was the Law. Gerry Ford is another Repub (weak, maybe) but one who believed in 'country first and party second. Mostly.

I forgot about that. Most people that are on television belong to either SAG or AFTRA. St. Ronnie was President of the acting union.

Too sad that kind of common sense is such a rare thing from the GOP these days!
