HEAD EXPLOSION ALERT!

UPDATE BELOW

Wait until the frightwingers hear about this!

Brits name Michelle Obama as their fashion queen :

All hail the foremost representative of fashion royalty! A British magazine created this image of Michelle Obama as a queen to promote its best-dressed list.

"Michelle Obama might still be regarded as a polarizing figure in America, but the Brits are less divided in their feelings about her — especially in their appreciation of her fashion sense.

The famously choosy Sunday Times Style Magazine named the first lady to the top of its best-dressed list and put a tiara-bedecked Obama in profile in the queen's spot on a first-class stamp.

This has been a high-water mark for the first lady and her sartorial influence.

The fashion-savvy Obama, who has championed American designers such as Jason Wu and Tracey Reese, is also on the cover of Vogue's influential March issue."

Michelle Obama might be regarded as a polarizing figure only because those on the extreme right make her so.

She is an intelligent, caring, dignified, and lovely First Lady who is admired around the world and here in her own country.

There will always be malcontents who envy or hate her and wish to bring her down.  I've been to conservative blogs where they post racist links to try to diminish her.  That sort of creepy hatred doesn't affect her one jot.

Those unhappy creatures who continue to disrespect Mrs. Obama will themselves be eaten up by their own nastiness.

"Hating someone is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die."

HEAD EXPLOSION ALERT!!!

What did I tell ya?  Here's the first comment on this post about the FLOTUS, and just after the "Texas conservative" took the time to come here, write it, and hit "publish", I heard a terrible EXPLOSION!  And bits of crania fell on my roof!  Tinkle, tinkle, tinkle.

Poor commenter haz a sad!  Because Michelle Obama!

From Texas conservative @1:23 PM

"Did you ever read such crap before in your life as this CRAP about MOOCHELLE Obama the Wicked Witch of the West Wing? And why is this Nazis FORCING my kids to eat the food that she wants them to eat? If the libtards are nuts over her then let them, and tell her to STFU."

Normally I delete trolls, but this comment so perfectly illustrates the bile (and illiteracy) that churns in the minds of these sorts of malcontents. Whomever "Texas conservative" is, I thank him or her for his or her cooperation in proving my point.

OMG!  There's this, too?!   Both Obamas in one week!

What will we tell the children?

Michelle Obama is a class act, a quality person start to finish. Barack Obama was smart enough to realize she's a keeper. And now, Michelle is a first lady we can all be proud of.

"Texas Conservative" helps to confirm my long-brewing impression that Texas sits at the bottom of the country, sort of like a drain filter, with much of the dregs of American society and politics settling in and concentrating there, the better to putrify.

No, all Texans aren't like that. There are some smart, thoroughly decent ones -- with strong stomachs, no doubt, to be able put up with the likes of Texas Conservative.

As a sort of side note, earlier in U.S. history putting the image of our first lady on a British-style stamp, wearing a crown like the queen's, no less, would've been considered an outrageous insult on at least two levels.

In those days, Americans took a dim view of royals, especially British royals. Hijacking our first lady and making out she was like royalty would not have gone over well, most likely with the first lady herself, and with the American public.

The Vogue cover is very lovely. Only a perceptually challenged ideologue would deny that.

I have heard Mrs. Obama speak on several occasions, and have always said she projects warmth, charm, kindness and enthusiasm. I am very critical of the way people -- especially public figures -- enunciate English, but I find no fault whatsoever with Mrs. Obama's voice and diction. It is in fact admirable -- better than her husband's -- and he's not nearly as bad as his two immediate predecessors both of whom speak "Hickphonics." Listening to either Bill or George W. has always made me want to cringe.

That said, I do believe Mrs. Obama and her husband have been unwise to take such excessive advantage of the privileges accorded by her husband's office. I feel that way, because of the state of the economy, persistent high unemployment, and so many losing their homes, etc. It doesn't seem to bother "the people," but it does bother me, because A) I think conspicuous consumption is vulgar and always in poor taste, B) think "living large" on the taxpayer's money in times of economic distress shows callous insensitivity at worst and a lack of wisdom and discretion at best. C) An unbridled display of self-indulgence provides a poor role model for our youth as well.

HOWEVER, I'm sure most people who are in positions of advantage behave similarly these days, that's one of our biggest societal flaws in my never humble opinion. The likes of Donald Trump cannot begin to compensate for the loss of Brooke Astor, etc.

The cover of Vogue may be lovely, but our current First Lady has appeared in so many outlandish, embarrassingly unflattering getups since assuming her role I think naming her as a Fashion Icon is, itself, indicative -- not of any serious flaw in Mrs. Obama, -- but of the hideous decline in taste and judgment suffered by the public on both sides of the Atlantic -- since the vile influences of the Sick-sties counterculture began to take effect about 45 years ago.

In comparison to the patrician Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, whose markedly aristocratic tastes were considered above reproach, Michelle Obama falls short, indeed.

This does not mean that I "hate" her. She's very likable, but how could I admire a person whose tastes indicate a preference for Beyonce over -- let us say -- Kathleen Battle -- or Wynton Marsalis?

Apparently, there will NOT always be an England. The mother country long ago succumbed to the same cultural disease as her wayward child. What a pity!

I'd love to be a fly in the wall in the Queen's private chambers!

Brilliant Texas conservative, showing once again the Lone Star state does indeed have some real classless, clueless redneck idiots residing there.

What is pathetic, in addition to your comment is you give real conservatives, those who think with other than their a** a bad rep.

PATHETIC...

"Frightwingers?"

Is that as opposed to "Bereftwingers"?

LOL!

Found that term on facebook. Thought it was funny.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Thus it has been -- and always should be.

I, for one, am sick and tired of seeing stick figures who are obviously drug addicts, held up as the ideal figure of a woman. This is not a comment born of jealousy; I'm skinny as a rail.

I've never understood the vitriol some people throw at Michelle Obama.

She's doing what every First Lady has done: Adopted a cause and then promoted it.

I don't remember anyone going after Laura Bush, who I thought was a lovely First Lady, for encouraging young people to read.

Mrs. Obama is encouraging people, especially youngsters, to eat healthily and exercise.

She hasn't passed any laws mandating that.

I agree with you AOW on body shape. All sizes, if one is in good health and fit, are to be admired.

If only she'd send her Schutzstaffel or Brown Shirts to my house. My daughter won't eat her veg.

AOW and Shaw. I'll give a hearty third if I may.

Along the lines of something I alluded to above (in the UK press):

Schoolgirls want porn star looks, teachers told: School children are becoming so corrupted by pornography that girls aspire to “unrealistic” body shapes, ranking each other out of 10 on a daily basis, a leading prep school teacher has warned

Girls are attempting to copy ever-more extreme body images, with some even ranking each other on how they look each day, according to Helen Porter, a member of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL).

She said it is ''deplorable'' that teenagers desire unattainable body types, and suggested that they need to be taught that for most people, this is not achievable.

Michelle Obama would do a service to teenage girls everywhere if she specifically address the issue of body image along with her nutritional statements.

I have a personal interest in this topic because I have seen so many girls nearly starving themselves so as to possess "the look."

I also know a pregnant woman who is determined to gain zero pounds. She is killing her first baby -- and herself.

I also see "thin" teenagers all the time. Yet, they have "muffin top" and no muscle tone. What's up with that? My neurologist and I have had numerous discussions about muscle tone because -- Lucky me! -- I have good muscle tone even at my age. Not because I work out now, but rather because my childhood was a physically active one even though I was portly at the time.

Not all can have upper arms like those of Michelle Obama, nor can all wear the styles that she does. Also, the protocol of some occasions does not entail the baring of arms (example: in the Congressional Chamber, where staffers are specifically told not to wear sleeveless dresses).

IMO, sometimes Michelle Obama looks wonderful in the clothes that she chooses to wear. Not all the time, however, especially early on in Obama's Presidency when she wore mismatched and unflattering styles.

Craig,

I got around that problem by pureeing the veggies and mixing the veggie puree with broth, veggie or chicken, and then they gobbled it up, like tomato soup.

Also, a family member did not like beans of any kind. When I made minestrone, I pureed the beans and stirred the puree into the broth for the minestrone. And no one was the wiser.

Barbie dolls didn't help little girls to have a good image of their bodies as they matured. I will say that when I was a teen, an overweight girl or boy were the EXCEPTIONS, not the standard. Everyone was thin. This made it difficult for those who had weight problems.

I'm no fashion maven, since I buy most of my "fashion" in thrift and consignment shops.

The last time I spent $$$ on a dress was when I was the mother of the bride and then the mother of the groom. That was it.

I don't get the protocol on bare arms. That seems rather Victorian.

However, I do understand why sometimes a dress code is necessary. I worked in a high-tech company for many years, and on those "casual Fridays" the office looked like a mosh pit. I'll never forget the young secretary who showed up on a summer "casual Friday" at the office wearing gym shorts, a skimpy tee-shirt and flip-flops. LOL!

Always On Watch said...

Shaw,
I'm not a fashion maven, either. I hate shopping!

As for dress code, there are certain parameters. Mine are very wide; even so, I am sometimes appalled at what my students wear to class, particularly classes being held in a church building. Thongs showing sometimes!

And it is not only the children who dress inappropriately. Some of the parents do as well.

Always good to see the wife of potus recognized. All first lady's have a cause and her's is healthy living, Laura was education and Hilary was baking cookies.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of them, they represent the United States. A few of us don't respect their politics but most respect the office.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Hillary Clinton's cause as FLOTUS was not "baking cookies." In fact when she was criticized for being active in policies she made the statement to the effect "I didn't stay home and bake cookies.

As First Lady, Mrs. Clinton led the task force for national health care. When that failed, she took a more traditional role. She published a book "It Takes a Village," which described her views on child rearing.

You're glimpsing the new aristocracy. Wealthy and powerful leftists ruling you. Bloomberg is another example. They believe they're superior, and we're incapable of governing ourselves.

We're reverting back to the time before the United States, when kings and tyrants ruled. It will only get worse.
