As a boy I once dreamed, as did the ancients, of building a model of the solar system. I guess my model was going to have the planets orbiting the sun on suspended tracks of thin, black metal strips with teeth for cogs. Of course, each planet would have to have a thin cut-away so that the tracks could somehow be suspended. It seems that someone built something like this in England perhaps which may be housed in the museum at Greenwich?

Anyway. Thank you very much. I enjoyed this video. I'm sure the concept in my mind's eye as a child was typically out-of-scale, resembling the painting in the encyclopedia.

A good illustration of the true scale of nature -- and of what an achievement it is that we've managed to send robot probes to every one of those planets, even though sending them is like aiming at a marble a couple of miles away.

And of course the distances between stars are thousands of times greater than the distance from the Sun to Neptune. On the scale of their model, the nearest star would have been in South America or Antarctica.

That's just liberal propaganda. Everyone knows that God designed the earth at the center of the solar system and the universe.

What a remarkable video. Earth as a tiny marble floating in a sea of empty space, just one of several planets in a MASSIVE solar system. It's beautiful and humbling.

I love this video too and will be showing it to Amelia tomorrow! She's always been fascinated by the solar system, she'll enjoy it!

Meanwhile over at the fright wing blogs theyre still losing their sh*t over that kids clock. they can't let it go until everyone sees what he did through their anti-muslim hating eyes. only problem is the leading scientific schools (MIT) and organizations (NASA) think the wackos are completely wrong and that the kid did something cool. yeah like Obama said, "cool." but the wackos think they know more than MIT astrophysicists and NASA officials? Bwahahahahaha!

Comparing what happened to Ahmed Mohamed to what happened in the past to redneck kids or white kids in schools for writing a story or chewing a piece of pastry into looking like a gun doesn't work because of this:

Other Americans are not calling those white kids (and their families), who are probably Christian, "vermin." And I don't know of any Progressive/Liberal site that calls for the deportation of American Christians from their own country because some Christians commit massacres and other deadly crimes.

But that is exactly what the crazies on the right are advocating for ALL Muslims. They call ALL Muslims "vermin."

Those blogs that support the demonization of ALL Muslims say nothing when their commenters attack Muslims. They agree with the idea that ALL Muslims are terrorists, when facts are contrary to those claims.
