Robert Mueller Named Special Counsel in Trump-Russian Scandal

This is a good thing. Robert Mueller III, is respected by both Democrats and Republicans. This will lend credibility to the investigation into Trump and his Russian connections.

In less than 200 days in office, Trump is embroiled in an investigation into his young administration. Many of us predicted that because of his incompetence and horrible temperament, Trump would bring down some sort of catastrophe upon his presidency. I thought it would be in the form of a new war. Instead, it will be an investigation into allegations of obstruction of justice and his Russian connections. Let the investigations begin.

I hate to say "I told you so," but I told you so.

Trump is a disaster.

Special Counsel named to head Russia investigation; White House caught by surprise

The Justice Department on Wednesday named a special counsel, former FBI Director Robert Mueller III, to take over the investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion between Russian agents and associates of President Trump. The move heightened the legal and political stakes for the president and his young administration. It came after days of allegations against Trump raised new questions about whether administration officials could oversee a probe which has the president at its center.

Yikes. President Pence! That's like saying, 'would you rather be a long tailed cat in a rocking chair showroom or a hamster in a cat factory.' No good options there. # 3 on the list is just as bad - Paul Ryan, boy blunder. Yikes. Who's 37th on the list? :)

We need to start a pool for what month Trumputin quits and runs away declaring 'victory' like he always does. I'll take August of this year. That'll give him enough time to stew about it and for his obvious mental illness to take him completely around the bend.
Seriously though, I do hope the man gets the help he clearly needs for his mental issues. Nobody, not even he, should suffer without health care.

Brett Stevens, NYTimes:

"No staff shake-up would have prevented any of this from happening. It would have descended on a hapless White House staff like a superheated pyroclastic flow from a presidential Pinatubo. And it will continue to descend, week after grim week, until Trump leaves or is forced from office.

That is the Trump reality. A man with a deformed personality and a defective intellect runs a dysfunctional administration — a fact finally visible even to its most ardent admirers. Who could have seen that one coming? Who knew that character might be destiny?"

From Brett Stevens: "...a fact finally visible even to its most ardent admirers..."

No. I disagree with Stevens on that, because a cursory look at the most right wing bloggers shows that many of Trump's "ardent admirers" are still blind to the damage he's done to himself, the GOP, and our country. Those bloggers still believe the nonsense Trump shovels out to his base: that it's all the media's fault that he's in trouble and that his presidency is on the line. They, like Trump, do not believe in personal responsibility. It is THEY who put this "deformed personality" and "defective intellect" in the White House, not the media, not "the swamp," not Barack Obama. The base of the GOP is to blame for the chaos we're experiencing and the shame Donald J. Trump has brought down on the United States of America.

"Who knew that character might be destiny?"

We did.

It's not just the desperate and fearful who voted for this hustler....we all had a role to play in the downfall of American politics. Our hope can be that the outrageous, and unprecedented incompetence of this individual, will lead to a full reset in Washington DC. And beyond.

From a friend who emailed me this morning:

"Trump's supporters don't care. They aren't discovering that he's really a disaster; they knew he was damaged human being all along. His constellation of mental illnesses was on full display for the entire election.

The Trump presidency is about _vandalism_. That's why his supporters voted for him; they wanted to vandalize the government and show contempt for what they call "the establishment" -- a term which they have co-opted and twisted to effectively mean the whole institution of democratic government.

Trump's behavior is a surprise to no one. His supporters couldn't outright tear down the democratic edifice they despise so much, so they did the next best thing; they deliberately released a mad man to destroy it from the inside."

S.K.: Correct. The Goopers voted for Trump thinking he was going to drain the swamp instead he refilled it with more swamp creatures of his own choosing -- business as usual. The Goopers could not bring themselves to see Trump for the deceitful con man that he is, and so Trump conned them -- good and hard.

Now they're blaming everyone but themselves.
