A giant among men, John Lewis was an icon of the Civil Rights movement. He bled for justice and equality.
May he rest in peace and love.
INVICTUS by William Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
Actually, as I stated in the comments to Dave, I don't want to hear anything about John Lewis from Trump. Anything Trump would say about John Lewis would only sully the great man's name.
Trump will never be the decent, brave, and honorable human being that John Lewis was. America and the world know this.

"Spiritual giants like him don't just fade into Oblivion. His loss burns a hole in our already bleeding souls. But, I believe, he lives as long as we say his name and tell his story. He is eternal in the history of sacrifice and courage just like Dr King will always be."
Historian Jon Meacham was incredible last night recalling John Lewis.
Hopefully he will lie in state in the Capital Rotunda. There is talk of renaming the Edmund Pettis Bridge for him.
I shudder to think what Pres Trump will have to say about Lewis. How will he react to not being the center of attention. Can he just stay quiet? Can he share the spotlight? Can he be magnanimous?
American lost a great man last night. A pastor, congressman, leader, husband, father and much more. The son of a share cropper.
Irreplaceable...
Dave, So far, Trump has said nothing. And I prefer that he continue to be quiet.
Anything Trump would way would only sully John Lewis's name. Trump never cared about Civil Rights or the heroic men and women who bled for them.
Trump is such a weak, little man. He will not display President Obama's portraiture in the White House, as all presidents have done for their predecessors, and Trump even took down the portraits of Bill Clinton and George Bush, Jr., from their prominent place in the White House.
Those petty, jealous actions show clearly that Trump KNOWS he's not worthy of any of those men who led our country. He can't bear to be reminded of his failures and unpopularity.
Don't know if you all watched Mary Trump's interview with Chris Cuomo yesterday evening but the nation ought to listen to her and read her book. As a physiologist who undoubredly understands the effects of tRump's dysfunctional upbring she paints a frightening picture of his severely psychologically damaged character. He simply is not capable of fuctioning as a leader in a diverse multi racial and multi ethnic society.
I agree Shaw. It is better that tRump stays silent on this one.
RN, I cut the cable last winter, so I don't watch CNN, MSNBC, or FAUX NOOZ. Perhaps I can find it on YouTube?
I'm awaiting her book, which I pre-ordered weeks ago will it was in litigation.
