What the Hell is Wrong with This Country's LEOs?

Loveland police officer on leave after arrest video of 73-year-old woman with dementia

According to the lawsuit, Walmart employees asked Garner to return to the store when they saw her leave without paying and took the items back — a soda, a candy bar, a T-shirt, and wipe refills — denying her request to pay for the items.

(NOTE: The woman returned the items, offered to pay for them, and the store refused. The store then called the police, and THAT escalated an incident that was harmless and nothing more than a dementia-related health problem. --S.K.)

Someone from Walmart then called police to report Garner and the direction she walking but said the store had not suffered a loss, the lawsuit said.

The charges against Garner were dismissed after prosecutors wrote in a motion that she “appears to be incapable of understanding her surroundings or her actions.”

**********************

This is a 80 pound woman suffering from dementia who was slammed to the ground and had her shoulder dislocated by the Loveland police who, IMO, demonstrated a total lack of self-restraint on an unarmed, feeble woman. They acted like thugs, and I hope the woman and her family sue the crap out of these officers who apparently haven't got an ounce of common sense or compassion in them.

(NOTE: Walmart did NOT suffer a loss! The items were returned, Walmart REFUSED to take payment for them when the woman offered. AND THEN THEY CALLED THE POLICE ON HER! None of this would have happened but for Walmart's idiocy in calling the police.)

Mr. Shaw Kenawe suffered from a severe form of dementia (Lewy Body Dementia), and sometimes when I took him with me shopping, without my knowing, he would grab some item and hold it in his hand or put it in his pocket. At the check-out, if I didn't notice the item in his hand or pocket, the employees would just tell me what they saw, and I'd take the item and return it to the store.

The employees never called the police, and Mr. Shaw Kenawe was never slammed to the ground for his unintentional taking of an item he didn't pay for. This is how a civilized people deal with those who are weak and ill and certainly suffering from an age-related mental disease.

Somehow certain police forces in this country are too stupid and too eager for violence to understand how to deal with non-violent, non-criminal, confused elderly citizens suffering from this awful disease.

Mr. Shaw Kenawe and I were fortunate that we lived in a place where people had more compassion and awareness about dementia patients, and no police would have ever assaulted and harmed an ill and helpless citizen.

Loveland needs to severely discipline or fire the LEOs involved in this shameful incident. And we need to ask ourselves what kind of a country would tolerate this sort of assault on a citizen.

What the hell is wrong with police? They have only one response to every situation. This is not Fallujah. These are American citizens. We need a top to bottom revamp of policing and a purge of ALL racists.

Our Ronald Reagan mental health system at work.

Why does an 80 lb. elderly unarmed lady require any physical attack of any kind?

She didn’t understand what was happening, yet the cop tortured her.

In general, American police are now at the point where even upper middle class white people don't trust them at all anymore. They've alienated essentially everybody. Various police departments have brought this on themselves by avoiding accountability for years. The good police and good departments should be furious with the unaccountable yahoos who are ruining the reputation of police.

You know what you call a group of unaccountable armed people? A gang. I want my tax dollars funding accountable professionals. I don't want my tax dollars funding gangs.

This is just exaggerated by marvelous maxine saying riot in the streets if things don't go her way. Do we have any sane elected elite who are held responsible for their actions.

How the HELL Skid manages to subsume what happened to this elderly lady with dementia to what Rep. Waters had to say is beyond me. Just more of his usual "Oh, look a kitten in a tree," BS to attempt to slime the left while excusing the right of even worse things. If he were any more of a partisan pinhead, he'd be a danger to balloons everywhere.

skudrunner, I don't recall you coming here when Donald Trump used his words to incite a freaking insurrection against the United States; an insurrection that caused the deaths of people and property destruction in the United States Capitol. I don't recall you having ANYTHING to say about Donald Trump urging VP Pence to break the law and not certify the electoral vote count, which in turn incited his mobs to scream "HANG PENCE!"

Where was your lament about elected elite being held responsible for their actions then????

But you didn't waste a second in coming here to complain about Maxine Waters.

Funny, that.

Police have become way to militant. They have become thugs and killers.

Ms Shaw, Everything with you revolves around trump. I said many time my distaste for him but I do not remember him going into the streets and saying if things don't go my way then riot. We have a legal system and it up to a jury to determine the outcome. I do realize marvelous maxine is just trying to be meaningful but her actions will result in an appeal.
Now people don't trust the police which is sometimes justified. What happened should be judged criminal but how many people have seen the entire video. Our media determines guilt or innocence by slanting a story how they want to see the outcome.

I would not believe it if I hadn't seen it. Then the lady cop is just as mean as the assailant. I can't understand it.

Flying Junior, They're supposed to be peace officers who protect and serve their communities. In reality, a number of them are no better than armed thugs.

There is absolutely no excuse for what they did to this poor woman. NONE. I hope they all lose their jobs and pay a price for their actions.

But that, skud, is EXACTLY what he did. Trump incited a mob of armed and angry thugs to go to the Capitol and do what they had to do to stop the certification of the electoral votes.

No more about Maxine Waters. This thread is about out-of-control cops who beat a helpless, fragile 73 year old woman with dementia.

Jerry, watch the "60 Minutes" piece on "The Oath Keepers" above this post, and it'll make your hair catch fire. Police and military people are training civilians to be paramilitary armed thugs to do just what they did on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol building.

I remember back when the Barney Miller sitcom was on tv in the late '70s early '80s. There was also a huge influx of cop show dramas. They took a poll of LEOs at the time and they said that Barney Miller most reflected how cop life was really like. I remember Barney saying many times that their job was to "serve" and "protect" the public, and always with respect. Sounds quaint now. They play reruns of Barney Miller on Antenna TV on weeknights. Love that show...

Yes. I too loved Barney Miller, Possumlady. I especially liked Fish, the old guy. His perfect deadpan never failed to crack me up.
