General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

Dystopia, Texas, USA

So Texas Republicans are looking forward to a good ole fascist book "banning/burning."

Texas House to launch investigation into school library books

The chairman of a Texas state House committee tasked with conducting investigations is launching a probe into books that school librarians keep on their shelves in the wake of a measure the legislature passed earlier this year to bar teaching of critical race theory in public schools.

"...on the list are some more popular works, including: —

"The Confessions of Nat Turner," a 1967 novel by William Styron written as a first-person narrative of an 1831 slave revolt in Virginia. —

"The Cider House Rules," John Irving’s 1985 novel about a protagonist whose childhood mentor is an obstetrician who performs abortions. —

"V for Vendetta," the 1982 graphic novel by Alan Moore about a dystopian, post-apocalyptic England ruled by a fascist regime, which became a hit movie in 2005. —

"The Handmaid’s Tale," another dystopian novel written by Margaret Atwood about a post-revolution United States in which women are subjected by a ruling class of men.
(Forced pregnancies in Texas and banning "The Handmaid's Tale?" Irony is dead! S.K.)

"We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy" and "Between the World and Me," an essay collection and memoir by author and essayist Ta-Nehisi Coates.

The former Republican Party's mantra was for small government and local control for decades. The Trumpian cult that has devolved into this current authoritarian entity, The Trumpublican Party, has one interest -- the concentration of power into the hands of those who believe they know best for all.

The Democrats are trying to invest in infrastructure and the economy, raise wages, make healthcare affordable, and improve people’s lives.

Meanwhile the GQP cultists are banning books and abortions and ranting like lunatics about baseless conspiracies. Book banning, forced pregnancy, and paying to rat out your neighbors.

Yeah . Nothing unAmerican about any of that.

The FBI ranks Texas as the 15th most dangerous state for --sexual assault and rape. But go ahead and ban books -- that'll solve Texas's shocking crime problems. This is what ineffectual governments do: find a problem that doesn't exist, make it a problem, and ignore what the real problems are.

Let's see if banning "A Handmaiden's Tale" will lower the rape and sexual assault stats in this stupidly run, dystopian state.

I used to like the color red as it brightened things up. Often setting a positive mood in place as the day started. But today, given the negative and greedy implicatons, as well as the willful ignorance that the color red now implies (thinking trumpublcan gop states) I now find it revoltingly depressing.

Shaw... in a July 2021 post titled "What is Critical Race Theory, Silverfiddle called me "intellectually dishonest" and asked this question after I asserted that exactly what you posted on would soon start to happen.

The I was asked the following...

"Please tell us what is wrong with this [the people at AOW]:

'No state agency, school district, or school shall teach, instruct, or train any administrator, teacher, staff, member, or employee to adopt or believe any of the following:
– An individual should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of the individual’s race or sex' "

Now that we are seeing books banned, lessons changed and children held out of classes so they are not offended, all as a result of extreme worry that little Johnny might hear stuff that says the Civil War was about slavery and white power, I can't wait to see all the folks that said us lefties were over reacting retract their faux outrage and admit we were, and are being proved right everyday!

RN, Dave, The current leaders in the Trumpublian Party -- at least in Texas and Virginia, are engaging in what they've accused Democrats of doing.

The radical left and the radical right are two sides of the same coin. But right now the radical right has captured what was once known as the Republican Party.

I read that thread at AOW. Silver is smart, but he takes himself too seriously and believes he knows "the truth." When someone is so self-assured, that's when they fail to see their biases and tribal allegiances. Even HE dismissed Jan. 6 as nothing more than a sort of rowdiness, and that the Democrats were overreacting.

When I read that, I knew he'd gone over to the dark side, and his opinions were not to be trusted.

I realizes awhile back thet Silver had taken the full plunge into to dark side. Smart, capable, and yet ignorance out muscled his smarts I guess.

I feel like a refugee from my home state of Texas. It used to be a wonderful place, until the right trashed the place and began the turn towards fascism that is nearly complete. I have friends now who are escaping and, even though this is Florida and we have MANY problems thanks to our GQP controlled house and senate, not to mention the worst Governor in our history, it's still far better than Texas, especially in my deep dark blue little pocket of the state.

Texas is trying to go back to the 1950's. They had better be careful. If they keep going back they may have to give the land back to Mexico.

Trumpism is fascism. Those in his party are mostly fascists. They are doing everything possible to subvert and destroy our democracy and cultivate division and hatred.

Here's the list of books they want to ban. Lot of Black and LGBTQ authors, for some reason...Oh, right. They're fascists.

"Texas is trying to go back to the 1950's."

Oh, yeah. The good ole days when African-Americans were still being tortured and murdered with impunity in the South, when Black Americans were invisible in American culture, and when they attained any fame or fortune, were still not allowed to stay at hotels of their choice. They could perform in them, but not sleep in them. And they couldn't attend state schools their parents paid for with their taxes. Yeah.

Good ole 1950s, when women could not own property, and birth control was outlawed in states as was abortion.

For those who miss those good ole days, please move to Texas and stay there!

"Trumpism is fascism. Those in his party are mostly fascists."

There's enough evidence out there to back that up. Trump even endorsed Bolsonaro for another term as president of Brazil. Trump always admires and backs the fascists, because at heart, that's what he is.

Bluebullamerica,

I've visited Texas many, many times because my step daughter and her family lived their for almost 20 years. There was much to love in that state, but IMO, not anymore. She moved away, and I have no desire to ever visit it again -- at least while Abbott and his proto-fascist government is in charge -- banning books, state-forced pregnancies, and bounties on anyone who assists girls or women who seek a LEGAL medical procedure!

Good Gawd! What a miserable place to live!

RN, Anyone who doesn't toe Silver's party line is labeled "intellectually dishonest." That's how intellectually dishonest people deal with people who differ with their opinions.

Smart, talented? What a waste!

Notice that the people on the pro-Trump blogs like AOW's have nothing to say about Texas banning 850 books:

Texas lawmaker is targeting 850 books that he says could make students feel uneasy

But their heads would of exploded if a liberal did that!

Dishonesty rules the Trump world!

Les Carpenter said...

Dishonesty now defines some, actually most, conservatives and almost all republicans. When one American party almost whole heartedly supports a liar, cheat, insurrectionist, mysogynist, racist, and general all around scum you know this country has fallen. The republican party (trumpublican) and its fascist followers are in fact no better than the scum trump they so seem to love.
