General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

January 6, 2022

From a friend:

"A year ago today, Trumpublicans stormed the Capitol Building to overturn our election. They committed a treasonous insurrection.

Tell it like it is."

And President Biden did just that!

"...for the first time time in our history a president had not just lost the election, he tried to prevent a peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob breached the Capitol."

"We must make sure that never happens again."

Biden said of Trump, without mentioning his name, that Trump "values power over principle," his "bruised ego matters more to him than our democracy," and "he can't accept that he lost."

"A former President of the United States of America has created and spread a web of lies about the 2020 election. He's done so because he values power over principle, because he sees his own interest as more important than his country's interest and America's interest,"

"He's not just a former president," Biden said of Trump, "He's a defeated former president."

"[President Biden] warned democracy and the "promise of America" is at risk and called on the American public to "stand for the rule of law, to preserve the flame of democracy."

"The former President and his supporters have decided the only way for them to win is to suppress your vote and subvert our elections. It's wrong. It's undemocratic. And frankly it's un-American," Biden said."

Always the whiny little sniveler, Trump lied about what President Biden said in his speech today, saying Biden "used my name today to try to further divide America."

President Biden NEVER MENTIONED TRUMP BY NAME.

Also, President Biden told the truth.  And Trump knew that when President Biden referred to "a defeated former president" that it was him that President Biden was talking about. Give Trumpy points for being self-aware on that!

Our President gave a masterful speech today. I'm more than happy that I voted for, and donated to, this fine man.

It is a great day to be a democrat. After six years of attacking a person they hate they have a huge celebration planned in several cities. This just shows that perseverance pays off.

What harm would there be if he had said this a long time ago? Americans no longer listen to the president as a whole America. They listen with their own filter of partisanship. Can a president still convince/motivate the country as a whole? It would go a long way to bringing Americans to reality IF we could put Trump in jail. Show the Trump cultists that they ARE wrong.
The split goes on. Republicans will not vote for voting rights; they don't want Americans to have voting rights.

skud sounds so bitter that a majority of Americans are sick to death about hearing Trump's name and listening to his lies. He's also bitter that a majority of Americans 60% blame Trump for the treasonous assault on American democracy on Jan.6, 2020. I guess people like skud would prefer that Americans celebrate a anti-democracy anti-American crook like Trump. skud just doesn't get how normal people view Jan. 6 as a disgrace to everything America stands for. like his friends on the Mother Ship, he thinks it's all making a mountain out of a mole hill and we should just get on with our lives and not think of how Trump encouraged his people to overthrown a free and fair election.

People like skud are slowly killing democracy in America.

Uncle, Actually most people are tired of hearing trumps name but the media and the democrats can not go a day not bringing up his name. It is the belief of many that anyone who incites or participates in a riot be prosecuted and punished. That will not happen because we have such a divide in the country that we even have an AG who is on a vendetta against conservatives because he wasn't allowed to be a supreme justice.

George Conway writing in today's Washington Post:

"...not only did Trump deceive the mob, but also he directed it. Trump urged the rioters to come to Washington on Jan. 6, promising it would be “wild!” On that day, he told his supporters to march on the Capitol, to “fight like hell” — and warned that “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.” He told the crowd that “our country will be destroyed” if Joe Biden took office, and that “we’re not going to stand for that.”

"As Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said in announcing her vote to impeach, “The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack.” He did it all in plain sight."

"...the words of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who, after voting against an impeachment conviction on the (meritless) ground that Trump had left office, all but called for Trump’s prosecution. “We have a criminal justice system in this country,” McConnell said. “President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office,” McConnell added. “He didn’t get away with anything yet. Yet.”

The Justice Department has plenty of statutory tools available to make sure Trump doesn’t get away with what he did. Most notably, it could invoke one of the same provisions it has applied to individual rioters: Title 18, section 1512(c)(2) of the U.S. Code punishes “whoever corruptly … obstructs … or impedes any official proceeding.” The statute makes clear that an “official proceeding” includes one “before the Congress.” At least one judge handling Jan. 6 cases has already held that it includes Congress’s joint session for counting electoral votes."

"That Trump himself wasn’t present at the Capitol doesn’t shield him from liability for obstructing the electoral vote count or for any other crimes committed that day. The criminal code provides that whoever “aids, abets, counsels, commands, induces or procures” the commission of an offense, or “willfully causes … another” to commit an offense, “is punishable as a principal," as though they had directly committed the deed himself."

"A number of criminal law experts have noted that you can aid and abet a crime simply by doing nothing — if you have a duty to intervene but don’t. A bystander who watches a store break-in and does nothing hasn’t committed a crime. The store security guard who sees the break-in and does nothing, knowing that his dereliction is allowing the crime to proceed, has.

As president, Trump had the duty to intervene. Instead, as the Jan. 6 select congressional committee is learning, he spent hours watching the mayhem on TV. And that dereliction of duty, along with his open and manifest desire to stop the electoral-vote count, should suffice to make him guilty of a crime. The evidence is already bad for him, and it can only get worse.

If the attorney general means what he says, Trump’s day in the dock will come — if not soon, then soon enough."

If justice is to be done, then Donald J. Trump will be punished!

After some research, I’ve uncovered what could be considered the forerunner of today’s blogs.

It’s a little publication that would be circulated around cities prior to the Civil War by riders on horseback. Then, people in those cities would write their thoughts and opinions on the publication and the rider would take it to the next city. And on and on it went.

In one such publication, titled “The Horrors of Slavery”, one commenter, Rumrunner, seemed intent on issuing snarky, bitter comments about people who favored Abraham Lincoln in the upcoming elections. He lamented that other commenters seemed to just hate his favorite president, James Polk, and his predecessors for simply owning slaves.

Mocking the abolitionists of the day, Rumrunner loved trying to make fun of the supporters of Lincoln because they were not fans of the former guys who either owned slaves themselves, or privately hid their approval of slavery behind the states rights argument. Rummy believed the feds had no right to encroach on individuals within states.

“I just want to live my life” Rum wrote in one publication "and do what I think is best. I’m sure Honest Abey is a swell guy and all, but unlike others, I’m not blinded by personal hate for -JP- like all you perfect people.”

I think it was one of Skud’s ancestors.

Dave, OMG! I hope skudrunner reads this and understands that his snarky "swell guy" is a trope that's centuries old, and may very well have been used by a distant relative of his! LOL!

Everything old is new again!

skudrunner: "Uncle, Actually most people are tired of hearing trumps name but the media and the democrats can not go a day not bringing up his name."

Really skud? Are you not aware that Trump keeps his name in the news by making announcements that he going to make announcements, his announcement that he was going to start his own social media platform, and just recently when he announced he would give a speech on the anniversary of Jan. 6, but then changed his mind. Someone must have told him that would be a terribly stupid thing to do. Trump has held rallies since he was defeated by Biden, and he's announced that he's going to hold another rally -- to keep his name in the news -- in Arizona on 1/15. Trump keeps himself in the news, and because he's a DEFEATED EX-PRESIDENT, the media have to report on him.

"...we even have an AG who is on a vendetta against conservatives because he wasn't allowed to be a supreme justice."

You write a lot of IMO foolish things, but that may be among the most foolish.

Merrick Garland is considered a moderate and certainly would not be so petty as to hold a vendetta --that's how Donald Trump operates. And you've forgotten how Garland was deprived of a seat on the SCOTUS, haven't you.

Antonin Scalia died in Feb. of 2016, 8 months before the election, and McConnell would not even bring up the nomination for a vote because he said it was an election year and the American people deserved to decide on such a nomination. That was, of course, pure McConnell bullshit and deceit. McConnell held nomination hearings and got Amy Coney Barrett confirmed not only in an election year (Oct. 2020), BUT WHILE PEOPLE WERE ACTUALLY VOTING! VOTING BY MAIL.

You've said nothing about this scurrilous skullduggery by the colossal hypocrite, McConnell, but you have a unfounded opinion, based on only your own prejudice and dislike of an honest man, Merrick Garland, who has an impeccable reputation for respecting the law, even among those who disagree with his judgements.

You've projected Donald Trump's petty, vindictive, and craven nature onto an eminent judge and wholly decent human being.

That sickens me, and I'm sure all decent people.

Please do yourself a favor and read about this remarkable man.

A look at the usual Trump cultist blogs brings us these comments on the anniversary of that terrible day J6 2021:

"I completely missed what Harris had to say, but caught much of the beginning of what Biden was reading. Disgust overcame me, and I turned off the television.

These nut jobs constantly harping on “the January 6th insurrection” are the true insurrection. Look at their power play and scripted commentaries."

"We didn’t watch any of it, but the simple fact they are still attacking Trump shows he was extremely effective and they are still jealous of his unprecedented accomplishments. Keep ranting, Joe and Ho. You’re only making yourselves look even weaker."

This is why this country will continue to be divided.

Anonymous,

Well that's discouraging, but not a bit surprising. I'm guessing those remarks came from the floating barge of supercilious sailors.

I really don't care about their yawpings because they're cultists and have placed their allegiances with a corrupt, criminal, cowardly, venal, opportunist, and have abandoned their country for him.

They're irredeemable and to be pitied. They sold their country for a cheap mobster who doesn't give a flying donut about them and their lives (or religion!). I have my theories on how these people could be so easily duped. But I'll just share that to my closest friends.

Those folks are not Republicans/Conservatives they are TRUMP CULTISTS and as pathetic as the cultists who drank poisonous grape Kool-Aid in Jonestown because their cultist told them to.

They're dead to me.

tRumpublicans suffer from an inability to recognize and then acknowledge reality. This is not neccessarily the result of stupidity. It is more likely the result of ignorance and or greed or both.

tRump supporters are looking at tRump's rhetoric and actions as being perfectly in line with and supportive of their own self interests. They are narrow minded selfish individuals that could not care any less about the greater good or how anyone else thinks or feels. Everything is abot them and their persona; wants and desires. Just like their orange hero. Like the old saying goes... birds of a feather flock together.

And, on the other side birds are flocking too. The final outcome of the flocking likely won't be sensible and certainly not pretty. But is ANYBODY actually thinking about this seriously? We'll soon find out.

On January 6th, 2021 our beloved nation was victim to an act of terror in the likes never witnessed before on US soil. This attack was not coordinated by a foreign adversary, but by none other than the Apprentice President and his demented cult of swamp-dwelling followers.

And here's a perfect example of Trump's cultists,

skudrunner said...

Trumps actions are the reason the country is in the sad state it is in and he can never be forgiven for his actions or lack there of. Because of him we have a government who's political criminals do not function to best serve the American people and only serves to promote the best interest of themselves and their political base.

We need strong leadership who can lead not just read a prepared speech. Leadership will surface if we have time to wait but draining the swamp is difficult to do. Maybe Manchin will throw his hat in the ring because he at least has some principles and tries to do what is right under extreme pressure. Maybe a women is needed like Gabbard or Noem will pick up the gavel. We certainly can't do any worse than the last three men.

BluebullAmerica said...

Yes, we can do MUCH worse than Biden or Obama, Skid. Obama was an exceptional leader and without a whiff of corruption. Trump and W before him were both disasters like Reagan was. They lied constantly, attacked our traditions and the very foundation of our democracy and used trickery and cheating to further themselves politically rather than honestly presenting their ideas and letting the people decide.
When you eventually get back to your home planet, Skid, be sure and get back into your white jacket with the arms in the front. And do it quickly. Clearly, you have no time to waste.

skudrunner said...

Blueballs, Instead of being specific why don't you just say all republican presidents. That way you do not miss anyone from Lincoln on.

You must be under the tutelage of Ms Shaw because she feels the swell guy is the second coming even though he did nothing for the middle class except attack it. His claim to fame is no one went to jail and he billed 300 million people so 9 million would have lousy healthcare.

I would assume you are not in the middle class or a business owner because your opinions may change. W had his faults but he was a decent chap, clinton was a decent chap who went with the direction of the wind and gave a great speech. The current seat holder is another swell guy who needs to remain in his basement and not embarrass himself and the country. The speech he read was well written and so much for unifying the country. He is good a passing blame, Afghanistan, inflation, supply chain, gas prices, employment, covid are none of his doing and I assume you believe that also because after all he is a democrat.

BluebullAmerica said...

There you go again, Skid; putting words in others mouths. You should talk to a pro about that problem of yours. I thought Bush Sr. was a very decent guy and not a bad president. I was also a Republican back then. Ya know, before they all went batshit crazy. I was never a huge Clinton fan. That hasn't changed much.
Obama was wonderful. He led a remarkable crusade towards fixing some of the deeply rooted inequalities that have long festered in our nation and badly harmed our quality of life as opposed to more advanced and progressive nations. He was the first president to take global warming seriously. He led the greatest expansion of the GDP in more than 40 years, a continual reduction in the unemployment numbers till we had the greatest workforce numbers since the 30
's. He forged strong bonds with our allies and reduced the uninsured population to a fraction of what it was. He was forced to compromise with the obstructionist Republiclowns to get their votes only to have them spike their heels into the ground and refuse to vote for that THEY demanded. It wasn't what most of us wanted and it certainly was a gift to the insurance companies but it did help tens of thousands of Americans get health insurance and care, including my sister who hadn't seen a doctor for twenty five years. And again, not a whiff of scandal for 8 years.
I'd say I'm comfortably middle class, and ran my own business for many years, thanks.
Finally Skid, if I were to need and pick a tutor, I'd be very lucky to get Ms. Shaw to be that Tutor. Not only is she brilliant, highly educated, charming and talented, she puts up with your nonsense. I'd say she's in need of a purple heart or two.
