“If POTUS allows this to occur… we’re driving a stake in the heart of the federal republic,” the unnamed lawmaker wrote to then-chief of staff Mark Meadows on Jan. 1 or Jan. 2, according to The Washington Post.

And yet...
Apparently someone went to the wrong church because the coup has been planned for years. The (defeated) former guy was only the means to an end - the taking of government to fulfill the Seven Mountains Prophecy (aka Dominionists and Christian Nationalists).
Now, I don't believe Christ is returning if the Christian Nationalists get their Olde Timey Apocalypse Review and Talent Showe but there are thousands who've been fed these notions for decades (receipts: view Jesus Camp and other exposes of the sort). The army of folks who propped up T(d)FG did so because they had bigger plans. If I remember correctly, back when Trump exploded the GOP primaries Ted Cruz and his dad were waiting in the wings to fulfill their Dominionist plan. And in walked Trump, all glittery with his press attention. It was the opportunity of a lifetime for the megachurch leaders (even they weren't all that fond of Cruz - either of them).
Here we are now - with historians such as David Barton continuing both the Big Lie and the lie that the USA was founded as a Christian nation instead of a Secular nation where a lot of Christians live. We are in the fight of our lives for our democracy but the stakes are higher than imagined. We are fighting for our lives against theocracy and there are a lot of humans who really really want theocracy to happen because in their mind, they are the holiest of holies and they will rule... well history tells the tale of what happens when theocracy takes over. It's never pretty.
Grey One talks sass
The Dominionists are real, and fundamentalist Christians want America to be one nation under one god -- THEIR GOD.
History shows us what happens when religionists and governments intertwine their powers: It leads to forced allegiance to their dogmas by the use of governmental laws. That's what goes on in Islamic countries, and what happened during the scourge of the Inquisition. It's a bad business and should NEVER happen here. But many far right politicians and judges are working diligently to bring this about.
“The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.” — John Adams
Article VI: “[N]o religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
And of course we have the First Amendment, which states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
This can NEVER be one nation under one god. Ever. That is an unAmerican idea.
