BLACK HISTORY MONTH

I liked Jimmy Kimmel's joke at the Oscars. Black people saved NASA and white people saved jazz. Hidden Figures is one of my favorite movies. Like all movies I wonder how factual it is.

Perhaps the day will dawn when we no will longer need months to recognize a specific race, ethnicity, or culture. When American history reflects the truth about all of our nation's phenomenal experiences. In all their truth and completeness. Both positive and negative. When simply being human is all that matters and all are accepted and respected equally.

The dangerous ones (the outliers) can be dealt with by a judicial system that is actually color and ethnicity blind. Where equal treatment under the law is commonplace and the norm.

Anonymous @1:20PM,

The movie, Hidden Figures, was based on a book written by Margot Lee Shetterly. The writing of her book took over six years. She interviewed subjects and reviewed documentation. She also edited and re-edited numerous drafts.

I read about what was included in the book and movie; and it is factual up to and including the scene where John Glenn took the time to meet and greet the African-American women, known as "computers." The white folks in the "meet and greet" party tried to hustle Glenn away from the African-American mathematicians working on the Space Program, because those folks didn't want to give those women the honor of meeting Glenn. Glenn just ignored their insistence on leaving after greeting all the white scientists and mathematicians and went over to meet the African-American women. He was interested in what they DID, not what color they were and how other people reacted to their color instead of their mathematical skills.

It is also factual about the building in which Johnson worked at the Langley Research Center in Virginia had no bathroom for "coloreds," and she DID have to walk a quarter of a mile to pee in the "coloreds" bathroom across the campus.

That was happening in my lifetime, not in the 1800s.

I also liked the movie "Green Book" It is also based on a factual event. I think you would like it. Thanks for the information.

When Einstein died they took his brain out to analyze it. They probably should have done the same for Johnson.

Anonymous, I did see "Green Book."

I thought it was a reverse "Driving Miss Daisy." It was too replete with stereotypes and tropes for my taste.

(I kept seeing Joe Pesci as the character Viggo Mortensen played.)

Nothing terrifies white bigots like a smart black woman.

I would even go so far to say ANY smart woman will terrify men of any color, especially the racist and sexists among them. Men are usually the ones with inflated and delicate egos.

I've admired Marilyn Vos Savant for decades.

That's right, the women are smarter.

As Harry Belafonte sang in "Man Smart, Woman Smarter".

Does this have something to do with The Divine Feminine?

Racist tRumpers hate all people of color. Have you seen their sites the past few days? They're trying to incite a war with China over the balloon incident. Racist tRumpturd warmongers would love to nuke China off the face of the earth and blame the war on our most excellent President ever. Their hate filled fixation on Joe Biden has gotten out of control.

Les Carpenter said...

Perhaps a bit over the top? I men President Biden is way better than the former guy even during his worst day. But the best EVER? Likely not.

And what should we expect? The tRumpublicans knew tRump was hated by many liberals and progressives. So, they hate in return. And vice versa. Make sense? Of course not. But, it sure seems like American society enjoys their hate fests.

At lease President Biden, acting like a president should, recognizes the hate is tearing us apart and is at least trying to craft some needed bipartisanship. Will have to wait to see how McCarthy and the republicans respond by their actual actions after last nights SOTU campaign speech.

Dervish Sanders said...

Screw bipartisanship. Don't give the tRumpturds anything. Fight back and take it all away from them. We need to wipe them off the face of the earth, or we'll be screwed forever. Do what Barack Obama did: not give even a fraction of an inch to the rethuglican poo flingers. We still have the Senate. When McConnell is up for reelection, we must strike hard and get our candidate in that seat he stole decades ago. Lie, Cheat, Murder and Steal is the motto of the Republican Party.
