CHILDHOOD'S GREATEST DANGER IN THE U.S.

This is alarming. But Congress and the Executive branch of government seem not to care about this terrible situation.

Republicans are more interested in legislation to stop drag queens from performing and in passing draconian laws that interfere with girls and women's reproductive health than addressing this tragedy.

President Biden has said he wants to ban AR-15s (which were banned in the past until former President George W. Bush let the ban lapse). But the problem is not just AR-15s, but the fact that there are so many guns in circulation in this country, and so many guns available means more gun deaths by accident, suicide, and homicide. That's just a fact.

The Data on Kids and Gun Violence Firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens (ages 1 to 19) in the United States.

Every year, 19,000 children and teens are shot and killed or wounded and approximately 3 million are exposed to gun violence.

Children and teens in the U.S. are impacted by gun violence in all its forms.

Researchers who study gun violence say that it is difficult to explain exactly why gun deaths among children have risen so quickly, but most emphasize that the increased availability of guns — especially handguns, which tend to be used in homicides and suicides and also tend to be stored less safely than some other types of guns — has most likely played a role.

What is clear is that the United States is an extreme outlier when it comes to gun fatalities among children. When researchers at the Kaiser Family Foundation recently compared a set of similarly large and wealthy nations, they found that among this group, the United States accounted for 46 percent of the child population but 97 percent of all child gun deaths.

"...road injuries, drowning, and lower respiratory infections."

66% of guns recovered in crime scenes in Chicago come from states with weak gun laws.

45% in California and  81% in New York are trafficked from places like Florida.

Also, the majority of guns recovered or confiscated in Mexico, are from the US.

Maybe this why we see children arming themselves with deadly guns.

I don't see anything good happening anytime soon.
