STUNNING

Revealed: Stunning text message Mitt Romney sent to Mitch McConnell on January 2, 2021 warning him of the Jan 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, that Trump is the instigator, and he may not help.

(From McKay Coppin’s new book “Romney: A Reckoning”.)

Mitt Romney: “In case you have not heard this, I just got a call from Angus King, who said that he had spoken with a senior official at the Pentagon who reports that they are seeing very disturbing social media traffic regarding the protests planned on the 6th. There are calls to burn down your home, Mitch; to smuggle guns into DC, and to storm the Capitol. I hope that sufficient security plans are in place, but I am concerned that the instigator—the President—is the one who commands the reinforcements the DC and Capitol police might require.”

Mitch McConnell never responded.

The greatest criminal organization in America... The GOP.

McCay Coppins, who also writes for The Atlantic, has had exclusive access to his fellow Mormon brother Mitt Romney for the last two years.

Romney also said that almost to a man, all the GOP Senators know Trump lost the 2020 election and the great majority of the elected GOP leaders do not believe in the Constitution.

Now I know many MAGA folks will disagree with Romney, but as usual, they will not be able to cite one policy difference, or law he favored with which they disagree.

They simply don't like him because he does not like Trump and thinks, as every single other 2016 candidate for the GOP nomination did, that Trump is bad for the future of the US.

Romney was an effective governor. He's a good man. Wrong on some issues, right on some issues. But... and this is important, a pretty good man of character.

Les, Dave

Romney was our governor from 2003 to 2007. He's the one who instituted Mass. Health Care, a model for the ACA.

I may not agree with all of his policies, but I do agree that he is a good and decent man.

That is something that we desperately need in our leaders.

I will never understand the people who still support Trump, knowing how dishonest and depraved he is -- and a good deal of those people like to think of themselves a "good Christian folks."

For them, it's Trump over their god, country, values, and decency.

And they're 30% of the voting population!

As i see it the four greatest domestic threat to our nation and rule of law in order and degree of influence are... 1) the GOP, 2) conservatism 3) tRump, 3) Evangelical Christian church.

The degree of virulent toxicity emanating from these groups will only increase in intensity and ugliness.

And Romney too has had enough. Will not seek reelection. All the intelligent thoughtful members of the gop are jumping ship because they know it has taken on too much garbage and the stench has become overwhelming.

On the subject of Romney, here's a quote from him...

"To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of the nation. A president should unite us and inspire us to follow 'our better angels.' A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. As a nation, we have been blessed with presidents who have called on the greatness of the American spirit. With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable."

In my lifetime, what presidents fit this bill...

Eisenhower
Kennedy
Ford
Carter
Reagan
Bush I
Bush II [maybe]
Obama

And now Biden.

At least IMHO...

Les Carpenter said...

Bush II is a better civilian IMO than he was president, but at heart GWB is, and i believe was, an honorable man for the most part. Big dick Cheney on the other hand...

Romney, who blew his chance, is absolutely spot on in the above quote. Unfortunately it looks like there are few who are presdential material in the gop anymore. The qualified and deserving stay rge hell away from the gop if they're smart.

Rev, With all of the TDS going on and blaming him and the republicans for all the countries ills the organization who is to blame is the DNC. Had they have not decreed the -H- was going to be the candidate because she remained loyal to the king. She was hated by some and disgusting by others but it gave the donald the victory. What we need to ask and seek answers to is why the political organizations do not select decent candidates. The DNC proved they can determine who their candidate will be and the republicans are totally out to lunch on most anything.

Think about the next election and the choices the parties are making. Unless things change trump will be the republican candidate and joey b will be the democrat. Joey b has shown that he is not capable of running the country and regardless of his criminal enterprise his programs and decisions are not successful. Pull out from Afghanistan, failed, bidonomics, failed, open border policy, failed, energy policy, failed. People vote for personal reasons and biden has failed the majority of the population so by staying with biden we could have another trump term. Talk to your buddies at the DNC and get them to find someone else. we can do better

“ 'It’s been a historical collapse of a moral governing force of what was once a serious Party.'

Stuart Stevens on CNN discusses Mitt Romney’s run for President and stance against Trumpism as the last prominent Republican candidate untouched by the MAGA extremism we see today."

Hahaha... Skud, you're so predictable.

Energy policy failed? We're energy independent. Isn't that what you conservatives want? We've beet a net exporter of energy since 2019 and in 2022, exported more energy than any other time in history. Source...

Source

On the "Open Border" the numbers are trending down, at a rate of about 25%. Can you cite any official source from the US that says our borders are open, come on in? Of course not. Here are the official numbers...

Border source

Our economy... Unemployment under 4%. The economy while not perfect, is growing at a 2.5% clip. But... we're short of workers. The US needs more working age adults. About 1 million to get us to full employment and continue to expand the economy.

I'd give you the source of this too, but I doubt you've clicked a link yet.

Feel free to include links that argue against the numbers I've cited in your comments. But as usual, no link, no credibility.

As for candidates, I'd love better candidates, but we dance with who shows up. What can we do?

Let's add this... also in Coppin's article, some senators urged others who were leaning towards convicting Trump in the second impeachment, changed their votes when other GOP Senators warned them of the danger to themselves and their families.

Again... where is the equivalency on the Dems side of the aisle?

Here's your answer... it doesn't exist.

Rev, If you are correct why are we seeking to buy oil from venezuela and paying a bribe to get hostages back, hint because we need the oil.

The rate of illegal crossers is down 25% is like saying inflation is down 50%. They are both based on biden created levels which were both record setting. Inflation is so under control the mortgage rates are the highest in 20 years. I assume this is planned to get some of the people who are not working back to work so they can pay their mortgage.

We need over a million new workers which is a correct statement. They are here they just choose not to work which is why the participation rate is low.

You accept crooked and ineffective politicians with a shrug as long as they are democrats. I think people should take a different approach and demand better. DJT is the gift that keeps on giving to the democrats.

Skud... your words mean nothing without some links to credible sources. Without those, you are little better than the sailors on the Mothership who know stuff is true but can't find the evidence, or -FJ who claims some gyges plot by Google to hide the truth.

You're all a bunch of living X-File folks.

This statement "They are here they just choose not to work" is wrong on a lot of counts. Google Steve Rattner charts and get educated.

We've been over immigration a thousand times before, but you, like the rest of MAGA America seem to only want one solution... no immigration, no standardization of the process, no money spent to fix the system and while we're at it, build the wall.

The facts are the number of illegal immigrants living in the US has hovered around 9-12 million for many years. No real change. Is it good? Noooooo.... can it be better? Yes. Should we have control over our system? Of course. Should we have "open borders?" Not at all.

As for interest rates, you are correct, those are up. What's your solution? You got anything other than all politicians lie and want our money?

How about this... maybe if the GOP wasn't threatening to drive the US economy off a cliff by not paying our bills and shutting down the government, confidence would be up, and rates would come down. Maybe...

I'd love to have an intelligent conversation with you, I really would. I've provided links, evidence, new ideas, even a centrist viewpoint on many things. But you are unwilling to be serious.

I've been critical of others here for giving up on you. I really have. But I'm learning why they have. You have no desire to meet anyone half way, respond to real evidence, end your snarky ways and look for real solutions.

Absolutely, none.

Why???

skudrunner said...

Rev,

US Labor Force Participation Rate is at 62.80%, compared to 62.60% last month and 62.30% last year.
That means that 38% of people who can work do

Ask the mayors of LA, NYC, DC how the illegal immigration onslaught is working for them
FY21 FY22 FY23YTD

Total Enforcement Actions 1,956,519 2,766,582 2,556,164

Let them in as long as they promise to attend their hearing in five years and that is a solution?

A paper by three Yale School of Management professors estimated that the undocumented immigrant population was in the range of 16 million to 29 million. I wouldn't believe these statistics because it came from a school named for a slave trader.
We don't seem to have an immigration policy that we enforce kinda like robbery and vandalism. You want to cross the border, go ahead, you want to steal go ahead.

Watch something other than MSDNC and CNN. Try BBC or NPR. Even CNN is questioning joey b being fit to serve. We have trump and biden neither are fit to serve as president so pick someone else. Do you hve a suggestion. The left supports biden and the far right support trump. Neither should be president but both sides are so dug in they they will only support their candidate.

We can do better.

Smart people watch little TV. 1/2 hour of non cable news and back to activity from which actually learning something new is possible.

Other than that TV is but a distraction and a pacifier.
