Trump made a comment over the weekend that stunned political observers and experts alike, and had some asking, "Is this real?" Trump's comment shouldn't have stunned anyone, let alone someone who claims to be a political observer or an expert.
The president on Saturday was discussing his administration's successful mission to capture the leader of Venezuela, as well as his wife, when Trump made the remark. "All the way back it dated to the Monroe Doctrines. And the Monroe Doctrine is a big deal. But we've superseded it by a lot. By a real lot," Trump said. "They now call it the Donroe Document. I don't know. It's Monroe Doctrine. We sort of forgot about it."
(In a non-parody timeline, this would be a typo, but no, this is exactly what he said--he can't even keep "doctrine" and "document" straight for three sentences in a row, because big words are hard.)
So, those "political observers" and "experts" either totally disregarded her words or wrote them off as unimportant and forgot them. Some experts.

Interesting. Posted a video on my weblog last evening that aligns with exactly what we are seeing in America in real time since the American Fuhrer Trump blew up the political landscape of America for his own personal benefit.
NYTimes, N. Gessen: “When he addressed the public in a news conference on Saturday, President Trump announced that U.S. forces had abducted the president of Venezuela and his wife in the name of democracy, justice, freedom for the Venezuelan people and the safety of Americans. It was a mockery: Despite what the hoodlums running our country may actually believe, abduction — whether on a street in Boston, in an apartment building in New York or Chicago, or in Maduro’s compound in Caracas — never serves the cause of justice.
Illegality does not uphold the law. Starting wars of aggression does not make anyone safer. Colonization does not bring freedom. And colonization is what Trump promised when he dismissed María Corina Machado, a Nobel laureate with a credible claim of a popular mandate and international recognition, as lacking leadership qualities and said, in various ways, no fewer than four times, “We are going to run the country.”
This is not about democracy, freedom, or justice. This is an authoritarian attempt at realignment of the world order. A realignment crafted by Putin, Trump, with possibly others influencing.
Western Society is becoming more divisive, more authoritarian, and more deceitful. This phenomenon is amplified in the USA through the administration of America's Fuhrer, Donald J. Trump.
Continuation of this trend will result in great political, social, and economic instability and likely violence here and elsewhere.
Through our continued ignorance and dualistic beliefs Society will fall to humankind's most primative and base instincts. Like those witnessed in Gaza, Ukraine, and the many "hotspots" of violence and hate across the globe.
Humanity, by its duality, ignorance, and greed will eventually destroy the planet and in doing so destroy itself.
You make it sound like this is the first time the US has taken out a foreign leader. Have you forgotten Panama, South Korea, Samoa, Hawaii, Philippines, Honduras, Cuba, Hati, DR, and of course TEXAS.
From news reports the people are glad to get rid of maduro but apprehensive about their future. Their is a faction in our country that says they don't like dictators and then hates it when they are taken down and free the people. I will admit that freeing people from dictator rule does not bode well for us. We may save millions of lives but some people should not be self governed
I just hope trump doesn't invade Mexico
skud, if you really believe what Trump did in Venezuela is about freedom, you're not paying attention. Why did the Trump regime put Maduro's vp in charge of the country. She is loyal to Maduro and has condemned what Trump'r regime has done. Trump also is not going to install Machado, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for her anti-Maduro stance and has a large following in Venezuela! Why would he put a pro-Maduro in charge of the country? Do you know any of this? Did you not read what Fiona Hill wrote in 2019 about the Trump-Putin deal:
"Seven years before US President Donald Trump invaded Venezuela to oust longtime leader Nicolás Maduro, one of his former top officials responsible for Russia said that Vladimir Putin had sought to strike a deal about a Ukraine-Venezuela swap.
Under the deal, Russia —Maduro’s biggest backer— would allow the United States to do as Trump wished in Venezuela in exchange for Trump allowing Putin to do as he wished in Ukraine, according to Fiona Hill, a former deputy assistant and senior director for Europe and Russia at the National Security Council (2017–19).
Also, you say you hope he leave Mexico alone. What about Trump's threats to Greenland/Denmark? Greenland is a sovereign territory, why should it roll over and let Trump take it? Do you not understand what Trump and his hoodlum regime is up to?
Wake up skud. These are distractions meant to district us from the destruction Trump and his MAGAt's in congress and billionaire oil corporations are subjecting Americans to.
A friend sent this to me via email. I have his permission to reprint it here:
"A short history lesson in gunboat-diplomacy.
In 1953 the CIA overthrew the popularly elected government of PM Mosaddegh in Iran who had nationalized Iran's oil industry. This led to 26 years of autocratic rule by the Shah until the Iranian revolution and the US hostage taking.
In 1954 the US overthrew the elected government of Guatemala in order to keep United Fruit Company land from being nationalized under a land reform program. Guatemala has had decades of instability, military coups, and civil war since.
Of course in 1961 the US failed to depose Castro in the Bay of Pigs invasion.
In the 1980s the US tried to overthrow the Sandinista government of Nicaragua, including the mining of its harbors and support of the Contra rebels. These actions were condemned by the International Court of Justice. These actions to the Iran-Contra scandal of 1986 (selling arms to Iran to pay Contras), for which no one ever was punished.
No one is defending the brutal dictator Maduro. Rather all sensible people are raising alarms about the gunboat-loving foreign policy of Donald Trump who has eyes next on 1) Cuba, 2) Greenland, 3) Mexico, and 4) Columbia.
As for the origin of the term gunboat diplomacy I recommend that people read the 1962 novel The Sand Pebbles, or watch the movie version. Learn how the US conducted diplomacy in awakening nationalist China in the 1920s as it threw off Western imperialism. The US Navy patrolled the Yangtze River. Spoiler alert: it wasn't successful."
It is rather astonishing that any people believe anything Donald said. "It's anti drugs" when pardoning a convicted drug lord. "I am the only president who doesn't start wars" when bombing two countries, invading another and threatening another two allies. Most magnificently "Yeah we should release the Epstein files. Maybe less so with that one.". Donald is everything he said wasn't and nothing he said he was.
"The United States is an oil company with an army." - George Carlin
Along with "Trump is a Russian asset", what could possibly go wrong?
Some sources believe Stephan Miller will run Venezuela.
He makes Pres and Mrs. Maduro look like saints.
Loved George Carlin. He spoke the truth the power brokers feared most. Too bad more folks didn't listen.
