MICHELE BACHMAN, SARAH PALIN AND CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICANS MOCK THIER IDOL: THE LATE PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN

Here's Ronald Reagan talking about the debt ceiling in 1987, saying EXACTLY what President Obama and the Congressional Democrats have been saying for months.

This is a good example of how crazy the GOP has become.  It mocks the person they claim was the greatest president of the last 30 years:  Ronald Reagan.

People like Bachmann, Palin, and Cantor obviously know nothing about governing like an adult nor what their party's hero said about raising the debt ceiling (HINT:  It's the same as what President Obama is saying.)

The GOP has become so disconnected from reality, it now mocks President Reagan's words.

Ronald Reagan’s September 26, 1987 radio address,

"Congress consistently brings the Government to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. Interest rates would skyrocket, instability would occur in financial markets, and the Federal deficit would soar. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations. It means we have a well-earned reputation for reliability and credibility – two things that set us apart from much of the world."

Michele Bachmann claims NOTHING bad will happen if we do not raise the debt ceiling, and Palin has agreed with her idiocy.   Neither of these two Tea Baggers knows what they're talking about, yet the GOP is embracing Bachmann and may very well nominate her to represent it.  And it should.  Who better to be the symbol of everything that is obscenely insane about today's GOP.

Shaw, I really appreciate your kudos for our ex President and fine gentleman Ronald Reagan. He was indeed a charismatic leader in the vein of FDR AND JFK.

However, there is a distinct difference between RWR and BHO. RWR actually was on the side individualism and liberty. The jury is still out on BHO.

Lets all hope that in the ed history finds that BHO was an individualist and loved liberty.

I am not holding my breathe!

RN,

If you reread what I actually wrote, you'd discover I gave no kudos to Reagan, I merely pointed out that he and Mr. Obama said almost exactly the same thing on raising the debt ceiling. Perhaps you meant to write that Mr. Obama deserves kudos for being in agreement with Reagan.

Your swipe at Mr. Obama's love of country and patriotism is misplaced. You should be questioning the patriotism of the GOP and its members of Congress who are willing to bring fiscal destruction to this country and the world for ideological reasons.

Not only is the jury out on the GOP, but it will come back with a "guilty on all counts" for playing with our economic security for partisan reasons.

From the time of our Founding Fathers to Reagan and Clinton, this country compromised in order to move forward and to solve its problems.

It is the present GOP that has abandoned this American tradition. As a result, the American people do NOT trust the GOP on economic matters.

Their allegiance is with Grover Norquist and not the American people.

No sense splitting hairs over what I meant to write or didn't. It's safe to say Reagan, looking at it from a historical perspective, would be on the same wavelength has Obama is today with respect to the debt ceiling and the need to raise it. Nuff said.

I made no swipe at Obama's love of country. I said... "RWR actually was on the side individualism and liberty. The jury is still out on BHO." This does not say anything about love of country.

It does say we will have to wait and see if Obama is truly an individualist and loves liberty. There is a difference. I am sure you understand that.

I was once a card carrying member of the republican party Republican, I no longer am. I register as a conservative. Again there is a difference. I am sure if they were a.ive today Goldwater, Buckley, and Reagsn would agree.

Norquist may have some valid points, taken in full, I ignore him. He may have poer in the GOP, but he holds none over independent thinking conservatives. You know the type where everything is NOT it's all or none.

Thanks for the space Shaw. Take it however you with... another good post.

There are similarities, indeed. Reagan chose to significantly increase deficit spending compared to his predecessor, just as President Obama is doing now.
