Dog Wars

Oh the stupid!  It burns!

But maybe after reading this, people will shut their gobs and concentrate on, y'know, issues that are really important.

The abbrieviated pieces of nothing on the internet who are yukking it up over the story about Mr. Obama, as a child, eating dog meat haven't the mental capacity to see the difference between an adult, Willard Romney, strapping his terrified dog to the top of his family car and driving hundreds of miles and a child who ate something his parents put in front of him, a sort of food that is commonly served in that part of the world. [Doesn't this story give the lie to the idea that Mr. Obama is a secret Muslim?  Muslim's are forbidden to be near dogs, never mind eat them!].

These lumpish half-wits think that what an adult male freely chooses to do is equal to what a child is made to do.  But more to the point, what is the point?

Who cares?

Barack Obama wrote about this childhood experience almost twenty years ago:

"With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share."

From Obama's autobiography.

and not one Gooper bothered to go on FAUX NOOZ and breathlessly tell the squirrel heads on that cable "news" station about this miniscule scooby-dooby scoop. It was only when the even older story about Willard got around the intertubes that some tedious measle-brain decided to dig up Obama's dog tasting incident and make a feeble attempt at equivalency.  The aforementioned abbreviated pieces of nothing thought that was a winnah!  And they celebrated this titty-for-tatty numbskullery like a kid tee-heeing over having slipped a whoopie cushion under Uncle Billy-Bob's keester.

But wait!  There's more!

Now comes this story [will it never end?]:

Birthday Fundraiser For Ann Romney Hosted By Man Who Once Barbecued A Dog

On Monday, Romney will be the beneficiary of a fundraiser that is being hosted for him by Fred Malek. Who is Malek? He is the former President of Marriott Hotels and Northwest Airlines; former assistant to U.S. Presidents Richard Nixon and H.W. Bush; and former National Finance Committee Co-Chair for John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.

When asked about the incident in 2006, Malek offered this explanation: He said he went to Peoria in the summer of '59 to visit friends at Bradley University. They got “drunk out of their minds” and he “didn't know why” one of the other men had killed the dog, that he was “not a participant” and that he was in “no position to stop it.”

So what's the score now?

Willard 2, Obama 1?

That makes this whole circus a Three Dog Nightmare.

Can we just stop it?

Now?

What else can the poor republicans do? They have no issues to run on, only lies and non-issues.

Some right-wing blogs are pushing this story hard. Equating an eight-year-old boy eating what's put in front of him with a grown man's callousness toward a family pet is quite a stretch, but it's all they've got.

Despite temptations for headlines ("Mitt Makes Money Meeting Mutt-Muncher Malek!") I'm not inclined to make an issue of the Malek story either. Malek says he didn't participate in the killing and barbecuing, and the connection of the act with Romney himself is so tenuous as to be non-existent.

But Romney's own story ("Fido on the Roof"?) is definitely a legitimate issue. Such a display of insensitivity and cruelty tells us something very relevant about a person's character.

there's a chinese food joke in there somewhere but i'm too mature to go down that road.

billy,

Tomorrow night is THE game here in Beantown! I've got my black and gold on now! We'll see if we join the Canucks in an end to the season...

"The Canucks’ regular-season highlight was a 4-3 road victory over the Boston Bruins on Jan. 7, when the teams met for the only time since the Bruins walked out of Rogers Arena with the Cup on riot-marred June 15, 2011. Some of the estimated 1.1 million British Columbians who watched the fight-filled rematch called it “Game 8.”

“The Boston game was our peak; it took awhile for us to get back to playing the way we wanted to after that,” the Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin said Tuesday, two days after the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Kings eliminated the Canucks, four games to one."

Shaw, just curious, how do you know that the dog was terrified?

And in terms of this "Such a display of insensitivity and cruelty" stuff, unless a person is a vegetarian (I've been one for 20 years, btw) or a person who eats only non-factory raised livestock, vitriol such as that probably shouldn't be utilized.

Will: "Shaw, just curious, how do you know that the dog was terrified?"

According to Romney's son, who volunteered the story to a Boston Globe reporter, the poor dog soiled himself and the son reported the family saw this "brown stuff" running down the back window of the car.

Romney stopped at a gas station, hosed down the dog and the car with water, put the dog back on the roof, and resumed the trip.

That's all I know according to the report.

RN, this fascination by the media with nonsensical stories does not serve the voters at all.

IMO, the media are a huge part of the reason we're in such a mess.

Silverfiddle said...

How do you know the Romney dog was terrified. Ever gone hunting? Dogs love riding in the back of pickups and hanging their head out the side, tongues lolling in the wind...

Also, you studiously ignore that this is a question of political tactics, not primarily one of criticizing the president for eating dog meat.

The Ploofian Axlerods started in again on the stale Romney dog story, and the Romneyites stuffed them on it. A clear tactical victory. Get used to it. This ain't the McCain's lose gracefully campaign.

I do agree this is a superfluous topic, but I got both of us to post on it, didn't it?

Silverfiddle said...

The dog "soiled himself" because he had feasted on a family turkey. Unless you're a dog psychologist and you conducted extensive therapy complete with interviews of the family members, you don't know that the dog was scared. It's an inference on your part.

Ann Romney said he ate the turkey, and that explains the runs more than your wild conjecture that flies in the face of the nature of dogs.

Infidel753 said...

WH: FYI I am a vegetarian, but regardless of that, your objection is not valid. The issue here is what the dog-on-roof incident says about Romney's character. Most people who eat meat have little or no comprehension of the suffering involved in providing it to them. Romney personally committed this particular act of cruelty and callousness; he could not have been unaware, so it shows that he was, in fact, a cruel and callous person -- something consistent with his treatment of humans during his parasite-capitalist days.

Not if we count the latest story on the Romney fund raiser and sponsor of Ann Romeny's birthday party and who was present at a dog skinning and barbcue! LOL!

But you are correct. The Romney people on this particular story were better at being bastards than were the Obama people!

It's just their nature! LOL!

Infidel,

I watched a video on YouTube just a few days ago narrated by Sir Paul McCartney on the cruelty to animals that is endemic in the meat raising industry.

I've been halfway to being a non-meat eating person, and after forcing myself to watch that video, I haven't touched meat or fish.

Have you seen it?

OMG! No wonder there's no taste to any mass produced meat products! The animals go through incomprehensible torture and miserable deaths.

A long while back, I used to listen to the Zen Buddhist Alan Watts' lectures--a Boston radio station broadcast them every Saturday morning.

He did not eschew eating meat. I do remember him saying that it is not necessarily wrong to eat, say a chicken; but what IS a crime against nature is to prepare that chicken in a miserable way. IOW, that animal must be raised with dignity and when it gives up its life for our nourishment, one must take pains to prepare it as best one can for consumption.

[This may be the reason I massage lobsters and apologize to them before I put them in the pot!]

Yes, I'm almost there, but there are some things that will be difficult to give up.

Infidel,

Here's the link to Alan Watts.

Shaw, dogs poop.............Infidel753 I see dogs riding in the back bed of pick-up trucks all the time and never do they look like they're suffering. And you're telling me that if people knew of the horrors of factory farming they would all en masse stop eating at McDonald's. Yeah, right! I'm not a big Romney guy, either, but this whole line of criticism is complete and utter bullcrap.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Will's question to Infidel: "And you're telling me that if people knew of the horrors of factory farming they would all en masse stop eating at McDonald's."

I can't speak for Infidel, but in my opinion? The smart ones would.

And riding in the back bed of a pick-up truck is far, far different from riding on the roof of a car.

You don't need to be a physicist to understand that fact, but it is true. The air-flow is completely different.

when was 8 I hated fish and liver and refused to eat it.
If I even knew it was dog I would have been horrified and not even tried it.
and for the record he Romney's dog used to jump up in the kennel on his own plus is was customized with a windshield.
They had 5 dogs and he was the only one wo didn't mind it.
If you ever had an Irish Setter you might understand they are a little nuts anyway.

Will "take no prisoners" Hart said...

Yeah, Shaw, that's why you always see dogs sticking their heads and 1/2 their torsos out the window when their cars are propelling at 50-60 miles an hour. Come on, this is simply because Romney has an R in front of his name. If it was Obama who had done this, you'd be spinning for him, just like you did with the Special Olympic joke and his idiotic assertion that Austrians speak Austrian.............And in terms of "parasitic capitalism, you and Infidel753 just might want to clean up your side a bit first. For instance, that Cap and Trade turkey would have been one of the biggest corporate give-aways in U.S. history. And it isn't just me who's saying that. Perter Orszag, Mr. Obama's own budget director at the time said it, too, "If you didn't auction the permits, it would represent the largest corporate welfare program that has ever been enacted in the history of the United States. All of the evidence suggests that what would occur is that corporate profits would increase by approximately the value of the permits." And then, of course, there was the stimulus package. Frigging D.C was awash in CEOs when that frigging boondoggles was cobbled together.............But, yeah, let's talk about the frigging dog some more.

Jerry Critter said...

So Will, are you in favor of cruelty to dogs? Micheal Vick was OK? Or don't you believe that putting a dog in a cage, tying the cage to the roof our your car, and driving down the freeway is cruelty? The whole issue, albeit a very old one, goes the the character of the man.

Will "take no prisoners" Hart said...

Yes, Jerry, I'm in favor of cruelty to dogs and Michael Vick is my hero.......Seriously, though, and what does Mr. Obama's "joke" about the Special Olympics say about his "character"?

Jerry Critter said...

I thought we were talking about human behavior towards dogs. Changing the subject now?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Lisa, you're being deleted. I'm done with troll behavior. I know it's you because your comments never add to a discussion.

The only thing you know how to do is whine.

And you're too cowardly to post your name.

Will: ".............But, yeah, let's talk about the frigging dog some more."

Last time I checked, Will, this was my blog and the subject of it was the Dog Wars.

If you want to change the subject, I suggest you blog about the things that get your dander up on your blog.

Fair enough?

Will "take no prisoners" Hart said...

What limit the discussion to dogs, Jerry? I don't eat meat of any kind (and I would never eat meat from a factory farm where the treatment of animals there is a thousand times worse than simply putting a dog on the roof of a car), do you?

Will "take no prisoners" Hart said...

Yes, Shaw, I will go back to my blag and never return. Happy cap and trade!

Will, "...do you"?

No. I'm a vegan.

Interesting how dogs can create such a interesting thread.

Infidel753 said...

Shaw, you might want to compare some of your right-wing commenters' behavior with this.

Thanks for the link. I haven't seen that specific video, nor am I familiar with Alan Watts, but I didn't arrive at vegetarianism by a philosophical route. It was really just growing visceral revulsion as I learned more and more about animals and their mental and emotional sophistication.

Many religionists think there's an unbridgeable qualitative difference between humans and other animals -- we have a "soul" or some such drivel -- but I know it's just a difference of degree, and in some cases not as large as we think.

A person who will abuse animals -- especially dogs, whose emotional states are easier for humans to recognize than those of most animals are -- is at least somewhat more likely to abuse humans.

Shaw Kenawe said...

That link explains a lot about many right-wing bloggers and their blogs and the trolls who come here and to other blogs.

The one fact that is unavoidably clear from reading the link is that Rove and people who operate like him don't care about anything other than winning and imposing their will in the political arena no matter how much damage that does to the country.
