This letter was referred to me through Facebook. Since it isn't copyrighted material, I took the liberty of editing it a bit to make it clearer and more concise for this blog:
Open letter* to the Obama haters from Terry Ungod Gonzales:
To your distress; and for the rest of your life, you will bear this:
Barack Obama, whether re-elected or not, will always be “Mr. President.” He will always be the man from a mixed race background who became the President of the United States of America. He and his wife will be welcomed throughout the world by nations and their leaders. The most influential members of the world of politics, arts, and sciences will be their acquaintances and companions. He will be regarded and honored as the U.S. President who entered office during a deep recession and two wars and turned the country around.
You, however, will always justify your lack of achievement on the unfairness of every system, the government, and regulations. You will blame your failure to accomplish anything in a country where impoverished immigrants with limited language skills are succeeding around you, on liberals, Communists, Socialists, and elites.
The small satisfaction you get from writing derisive comments about Mr. Obama and his family will be a pale comfort compared with the reality that exists around you. Bush 41 and his wife are living into their nineties; and with good health and luck, the Obama's will too. You'll see them at other inaugurals; your TV will follow their lives and their daughters‘lives- their successes, the books they will write, and the accolades they will receive around the globe.
You can try to salve your bitter existence with theories of international Kenyan plots or document fraud, but your world will always be limited by your small-mindedness, and your associates will be those who are as poorly adapted to the world around them as you are.
It's time to move on. In your journey into denial, you've already sacrificed your conscience and whatever claim to character you had. Your pretense at a deity-derived morality is mocked by your myopic hatred of the 'other'. Your concept of patriotism is waving a child's flag on the sidelines as others defend your liberty.
Make it easy on yourself. Take a deep cleansing breath and just let go; make the best of your situation. Whether re-elected or not, Mr. Obama will always be the 44th President of the United States of America, and your children and their children’s children will read about him in their history books. No matter how much hatred for him you nourish within yourself this will forever be true.

It is a joy to see this. Thank you for adding it to your blog.
It remind all, the megaphone of downerism at Murdoch Media/Fox Networks is the voice of hate/haters.

Why do liberals see race first and person 2nd?
they see race first because CONS always feel the need to point it out to them....and he may be of mixed race, he checked off 'black' on his census form....
Anonymous, the first sentence describes Mr. Obama as "Mr President."
Acknowledging him as our first bi-racial president is acknowledging a "first," as in how we as a country have acknowledged other firsts:
Margaret Chase Smith, first female Senator
JFK, first Catholic President
Sandra Day O'Connor, first female Supreme Court Justice
Madeleine Albright, first female Secretary of State
Colin Powell, first African-American Secretary of State
Condolezza Rice, first African-American female Secy. of State.
These are all historical firsts, and there is nothing wrong with noting and remarking upon historical American firsts.
It appears to me that it is YOU who have a problem with acknowledging factual firsts.
I'm sure when our second African-American president is elected, you won't hear her name attached to what her race is. What you'll hear is that SHE is the FIRST FEMALE African-American.
We liberals see FIRSTS as important in conjunction with who that person is who achieved it.
BTW, why do conservatives pass around racist emails about our first African-American president? And why do they also refer to his wife as a gorilla?
Does that bother you as well? And do you speak up against it?
Just wondering.
Ema N.,
Glad you like it. Pass it on!
@Anonymous, the comment is a factual statement and one that is historically significant.
Amen, I agree, If re-elected or not, (But I believe he Will...but it will be a close race)He will be in the history books and the would will esteem him in the same way the esteem Bill Clinton.
Thanks for posting.
Jessica, I didn't see your comment before I posted mine.
Yes, it is true. Whenever we acknowledge Mr. Obama as the first bi-racial or African-American president, the conservatives do protest muchly. I never hear them do such protestations over emails that are sent around, such as the one by a federal judge, implying that Mr. Obama's mother had sex with a dog to produce him.
Or emails that depict the White House lawn filled with watermelons, or of Mrs. Obama as a gorilla.
None of those racist emails are being passed around by us flaming liberals.
It is, however, curious how upset the conservatives get we mention Mr. Obama as our first A.A. president.
funny how those same conservatives supported Herman Cain or would Allen West.
Not based on race either but on their message.
We just don't care for any liberals message regardless of their color.
I know that may be a a difficult concept for you but then again how would you be able to use divisiveness?
So yes liberals do see color first.
I don't care for this president's demonetization of certain groups for his class warfare agenda. It is most unhealthy for our nation.
So the "monkey" reference was OK for the White President.
You liberals are too funny.
Anon,
That you don't see Cain or West as extremists is very telling on what end of the far, far right spectrum you stand. They are radicals, and, specifically, Cain is a uniformed clown.
What is interesting is that Michael Steele has been part of the GOP for years and years, but it was only after Mr. Obama was elected that he was deemed worthy to be put in charge of the RNC. How coincidental! Why not 4 or 5 years before Mr. Obama's election?
ANON: "I know that may be a a difficult concept for you but then again how would you be able to use divisiveness?"
Oh yeah. Divisiveness. It was the GOP's unified message before Mr. Obama took office that it hoped he FAILED! Before his inauguration the GOP was playing divisive politics. You have a very selective and warped memory.
ANON: "So yes liberals do see color first."
Explain the dozens of racist emails from the GOPers that have gone around the internet since Mr. Obama was elected.
ANON: "I don't care for this president's demonetization of certain groups for his class warfare agenda."
Can you give specifics on that charge? With links to his demonization of "certain groups?" I'd like to see speeches and such where he singles out "certain groups" and "demonizes" them. If you can't come up with any, then you're telling stories in order to demonize this president.
ANON: "So the "monkey" reference was OK for the White President.
You liberals are too funny."
That remark shows your total insensitivity to and lack of knowledge of what the ape image applied to African-Americans has been in our American history.
White people are not mocked as apes as a race of people. African-Americans have been and still are as a way to dehumanize them.
That you don't know this essential part of our sorry American history means either you are very, very young, or very, very uninformed.
Either answer is no excuse for such ignorance.
Hold it!!!!! We elected a Black President??? Whoa.... and here I just thought of him as articulate, intelligent guy who was doing his best .... to straighten out a mess created by his predecessor. Gees....
Shhhhh! okjimm! You're not supposed to acknowledge that Mr. Obama is our first black/bi-racial president because then the conservatives say we're making an issue out of his race!
Something they NEVER do!
The quote below is a blatant and ugly racist comment written by a reader of right-wing blogger Sister Toldjah. She wrote a piece finding fault with Rep. Bobby Rush for wearing a hoodie on the floor of the House in support of murdered black youth Trayvon Martin. One of her reader’s took the opportunity to lecture on blacks in America:
"I fully understand the urge that many minorities in this country feel to participate in our system of government, which is not a Democracy as most people believe, but is in fact, a Republic. I’m not going to mince words here and try to align myself with all the politically correct idiots in the world. I can’t name a more worthless bunch of individuals, than the politically correct idiots we deal with every day.
Yes, this country is made up of many people, from many different backgrounds and many different countries. Given that History of America, the only race that has not been able to assimilate into the fabric of this great country is Blacks. I refuse to call them African-Americans, because they are not African-Americans. They are Americans, just like you and I. But of all the people who have made it to these sacred shores, they are the only ones who have never found their place here. All the other strange people who came here from strange lands, found a way to make a home here. They assimilated. They found a way to make life work in this new country. In doing so, they enriched American life as we know it. Ever go to New York and visit, “Little Italy?” Yes, it is totally Italian, but at the same time it is totally American.
I am well aware of the sins upon black people that my relatives of previous generations have visited upon these people. My question is simple. How long do we, as individuals who had nothing to do with it, have to pay for it?
I am totally sick of this polite game we play with the Black people in this country. They contribute absolutely nothing to this country. Instead, they suck this country dry by their dependency on welfare. They vote Democratic. What a surprise.
Please email me the first time black people in this country actually contribute something that makes this country better. And don’t tell me Obama was something they gave us that made this country better. I could shoot myself."
Racist? This isn't a liberal website. The conservatives own this racism.
Take a look at this filth.
Great Minds! :)
the comment written by a reader of right-wing blogger Sister Toldjah, which Mario posted here, is unbelievable!
Our grandchildren will grow up reading history books with Barack Obama, POTUS, in them! YES! The haters can not take that away....Do ya think this is why they fight to destroy public education? :)
Shaw you and the author said... "He will be regarded and honored as the U.S. President who entered office during a deep recession and two wars and turned the country around."
That is completely a matter of opinion which many can and have refuted. I leave it to your fine unbiased blog to highlight the differing views.
As to the rest... liberal hyperbole and sophistry.
RN, there is no disputing the fact that the stock market has recovered from its low of 7,000 when Bush left office, and that the country is no longer bleeding jobs. Those are facts.
The auto industry has recovered. GM is making profits now; it was on the brink of bankruptcy when Obama took office.
The war in Iraq is ended, and the troops will soon be home from Afghanistan.
You can ignore those facts if you wish and say the country hasn't recovered. But that won't be the truth.
You accuse me of wearing liberal bias, but what do you call it when a conservative/libertarian ignores the ground this country has recovered since the disaster of 2008?
And just think of how even better the country would be if the GOP cared about this country and worked with Obama instead of plotting to ruin his presidency.
Here's a chart that cannot be disputed, no matter how hard the GOP tries to trash everything this president has achieved.
haw. I have not ignoredthese facts. However, the reality is, whether you choose to accept it or not is this, the President is not in control of these fluctuations.
He, as was Bush, the pawn in a huge global network that is in control or global events, icluding but not limited to the global market.
YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS my dear friend. We remain at the mercy of the monied intrests. Obama is really very much the same as the Busheses and the Clintons. The only difference? Th/e Bush Clan and the Clintons understand what it takes to create wealth.
I leave it to you to decide. All I can say is i must be nice to have a straw hero.
.
"... journey into denial, you've already sacrificed your conscience and whatever claim to character you had."
"... understand what it takes to create wealth." ?
Progressive Eruption points to a factual chart of private-sector employment growth and a petty denier snivels that President Obama does not understand what it takes to create wealth?!? Really?! Job creation does not equal wealth?
One has to accept that for a few low characters who cannot come to terms with reality, they must live the rest of their life in utter, black distress. They cannot bring themselves even to acknowledge their own failure to see the truth. So be it, nothing lost.
Good post!

RN, "...the President is not in control of these fluctuations."
The president wasn't "in control" when he made the decision to save GM and millions of jobs? He wasn't "in control" when he made the decision to go after bin Laden?
He wasn't "in control" when he made the decision to pass a health care law?
Ema Nymton,
I appreciate your comments and your participation in these discussions. I try to keep it lively and friendly here with a variety of opinions and disagreements.
I think we do that best by attacking an idea and not a person.
Forces beyond the President, any President have by far greater impact on markets than the President's policies. Yes the President has some influence of course. He , and I'm speaking generically here, is not in total control. In some respects a good thing, in others perhaps not so good.
At any rate some are predicting the next great depression in 18 years. We'll have to wait and see. If the prediction comes true I wonder if we'll blame Bush?
PS: please forgive typos. I had one too many glasses of wine at dinner yesterday :(
Thanks for posting this letter. It's going to be interesting to see how the far right tries to rewrite history in order to make President Obama look bad.
Conservatives love to say that liberals always focus on race. However, imagine the reaction from the right if a Republican had been elected as the first African-American president. We'd never hear the end of it (see, we're not racist... look who we elected). Not that we'll have to worry about never hearing the end of it. Given the way some in the GOP base openly express their dislike of blacks, I doubt we'll be seeing an African-American GOP nominee for POTUS anytime soon.
Hmm, Representative West perhaps?
The whole left right dichotomy is waring thin.
Perhaps it's time for EVERYBODY to do the right thing.
Like maybe sitting down and talking with one another rather than at one another.
Problem is however there just seems to be a lot of preconceived, and often emotional ideas and premises floating around from both ideologies..
I say this with a view that the right evangelicals and socons need to get a grip on reality.
"Hmm, Representative West perhaps?"
You're not serious, RN, are you?
Rep. West talking about President Obama: "low-level socialist agitator" whose "Marxist demagogic rhetoric" indicates a "Third World dictator-like arrogance."
Source
No way could a nut like him be elected. Statesmen and future statesmen don't lob character-assassinating rhetorical bombs like that.
RN: "The whole left right dichotomy is waring thin.
Perhaps it's time for EVERYBODY to do the right thing.
Like maybe sitting down and talking with one another rather than at one another."
I thought that's what we're doing here.
Malcolm,
Not only do rightwingers claim the left always focuses on race, but they call Mr. Obama a racist!
There is a catalog of racist emails, documented on the net, that have been initiated by conservatives. Not just some private individual racists, but leaders of local GOP parties. Even federal judges!
Shaw- Some are. Not all.
It is always hard for the most guilty to see themselves. Yes?
And I certainly hope you know I am NOT referring to you, and some others who visit here.
West speaks fpr himself. There is a lot of lobbing going on methinks.
let's ask the guy who won the stanley cup for you, tim thomas, what he thinks of obama.
those big bad bruins better not beat up the poor law abiding canucks again this year.
It's disgusting and sad, but the people who fear and hate Obama — not for what he's actually like or what's he's done, but rather the twisted caricature of him they have created — won't be moved toward reason one iota by Gonzales' piece. Obama haters need their distorted bogeyman image of Obama just as they need their hatred. They need these things because they have character defects and insecurities. One of their insecurities, quite justified, is that without others to make out to be inferior and objects of their hatred, they might be nothing.
Judging by the haters' "accomplishments," they are less than nothing. They are whiners, complainers and troublemakers with nothing more to contribute than getting in the way as others struggle to clean up their messes.
"The auto industry has recovered. GM is making profits now; it was on the brink of bankruptcy when Obama took office"
For a measly 60 billion we saved a million jobs. Like nobody would make autos anymore.
How is Ford doing without any of that measly 60 billion? How many workers have they fired? How does their future look in comparison to GM and Chrysler? I guess it is too early to tell. If Chrysler and GM fail after a few years and Ford is extremely successful how would that look?
Do we come up with another measly 60 Billion?
Oh what the hell, 60 billion here, 60 billion there. Just tax the rich, blame it on Bush, keep helping "hard working families"and create another million government jobs.
What company wouldn't take that deal?
Any company or for that mater any family would be doing better if they got handed as Elena Kegan would say "A boatload of cash"
"I guess it is too early to tell. If Chrysler and GM fail after a few years and Ford is extremely successful how would that look?"
Why do conservatives always deal in negative hypotheticals?
Oh. Wait. I know why: They're royally p.o.'d because by helping GM avoid bankruptcy, and therefore, saving thousands and thousands of American jobs, Mr. Obama made the right decision, and that pisses off the right; since more than helping Americans, conservatives wish to destroy a presidency.
So Ford didn't need a bail out? Good for them. Obama should have gambled on thousands and thousands of American jobs, making the recession even more miserable than it was?
Well Obama gambled and bailed out GM. GM made a profit and is paying back the loan. Thousands of American jobs were saved.
And you, Anon, come here and bitch about it?
It's all about hating to see this president succeed. There's no other reason I can think of that would compel an American--if that's what you are--to come here and piss and moan about a success story that benefited Americans and their families.
Take your mean-spirited Randian-based complaints to FAUX NOOZ and the rest of the Obama haters. They'll love hearing you tell them how much you hate this success story.
S.W.,
You're correct. People like this Anon who came here to bitch about a success story have bought into a fabricated demon--thanks to FAUX NOOZ and people like that swine, Rush Limbaugh. And whenever there's an Obama success story, their first reaction is to denigrate it or pretend someone or something else was responsible for the success--i.e., the death of bin Laden and how the resentful right never gave Obama credit for it.
There's nothing Mr. Obama can do to make them like him, so I say, fang'em! Why try. Ignore the malcontents. They contribute absolutely nothing to helping America recover from the disasterous Bush years.
Isn't it interesting, shaw, how the righties never bellowed about Pres. Bush waging two wars off the books. They're angry about billions being spent only when liberals do it. Frikken hypocrites, the lot of them
Henry B.
Guess ya don't read many true conservative or libertarian writers (thinkers). You're certainly talking about the big "R" statist republicans though!
the auto industry was bailed out but the bond holders were screwed out their money because obama put the autoworkers ahead of the bond holders. people buy bonds as a safe conservative investment because the "secured" creditors are supposed to be at the top of the list when it comes to claims on assets.
other than that it was a good decision.
Anonymous wrote: ". . .Just tax the rich, blame it on Bush, keep helping 'hard working families' and create another million government jobs."
Excellent plan. Let's get on with it.
Billy Pilgrim wrote: ". . .the auto industry was bailed out but the bond holders were screwed out their money because obama put the autoworkers ahead of the bond holders."
That Republican talking point is like Freddy Kreuger. No matter how many times it gets killed, it comes back.
If a company folds its tent and goes out of business, any cash it has and the proceeds from selling off its assets go to paying those the company owes. Creditors come first, then bondholders, then stockholders. But GM and Chrysler didn't go out of business. The automakers reorganized under court supervision. In those circumstances bondholders typically suffer some loss. And that's without any government bailout, and without any executive branch supervision, just the courts.
Why would the courts make bondholders get a haircut? Probably because paying off bondholders would bankrupt the companies, and the objective was to save the companies.
Why would autoworkers get some incentives in the effort to save the automakers? First, because for years the UAW and other industry unions have made big, costly and painful concessions to help keep the companies going. And, the auto workers' cooperation was vital to getting the companies back on their feet.
You can say bondholders got screwed, but the fact is bond investing is not the ultra-low-risk proposition some people claim and others want to believe it is.
Oh yeah that'll work for a few years give or take. But then again liberals live in the moment with no concern a about the future
Is that why Liberals helped pass the Women's Suffrage legislation? Social Security? Medicare? Civil Rights?
Those weren't about the future, were they.
They could have reorganized without taxpayer money like most chapter 11's. But this was more about the unions and less about anything else
You forgot welfare and as LBJ said "I'll have those n---- voting democrat for the next 200 years" But hey as long as he did other things so called liberals like he gets the "typical pass" like Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd right?
"They could have reorganized without taxpayer money like most chapter 11's. But this was more about the unions and less about anything else."
No. It was about saving American jobs. Immediately. The unions cooperated and made many concessions in order for it to work.
It worked. And conservatives hate the success story because it happened on Obama's watch.
"You forgot welfare and as LBJ said "I'll have those n---- voting democrat for the next 200 years" But hey as long as he did other things so called liberals like he gets the "typical pass" like Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd right?"
What this "Anonymous" commenter fails to understand--and never will--is that the important thing is that the legislation was passed, not what a
southerner said about it. Also, this commenter obviously doesn't read history, otherwise, she would have known how many of our exhalted presidents spoke condescendingly like that about African-Americans. We have a long and sordid racist history, and it will be many more years before we're rid of it--if ever.
To foolishly single out one or two politicians to make a point about racist Democrats is stupid and shows a complete ignorance of racism in BOTH political parties in American history.
But right now, in the 21st century, a majority of African Americans find the Democratic Party more attunded to their values than they do the GOP--you know, the party that harbors state chairmen and federal judges who pass around racist emails about the POTUS and FLOTUS.
And what would those values be? Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Wow what unusual values
Anon, there is no way the Automakers could have reorganized without government help.
The banks refused to lend the money necessary to make a structured bankruptcy work.
It took the government, under the direction of Presidents Bush and Obama, against the wishes of the GOP, to make this work.
There are few economists that believe saving GM and Chrysler, and thousands of jobs connected to those companies, could have been done without government help.
Everytime this issue comes up, people like you bring up a non governmental aided bankruptcy, but fail to address the central question...
Where was the money going to come from to facilitate this bankruptcy?
Unless and until that question gets answered, there really is little to discuss.
80 million out of work, record gas prices and taxes for Obamacare hasn't even kicked in yet. If that is success then well you know the rest. So glad Obama is looking out for the middle class. At least you know how to fantisize
Like I said,60 billion here,60 billion there for unions or crony green companies
Anon, again you missed the point...
You are like the Irrational Opposition people in Rebecca Costa's book "Watchman's Rattle" who are content to voice their anger with no real solutions.
Your anger is real...
But instead of staying in that space, what realistic solutions do you propose? And what can we realistically do to accomplish those solutions?
This is real world stuff... not the "just cut spending" stuff that passes for solutions from so many people...
Looking forward to seeing what ideas you have.
I will quote Geitner "We don't have a plan we just don't like yours"
Some character with a bad case of GOP talking points diarrhea who lacks the cojones to give his name opined:
". . .liberals live in the moment with no concern a about the future."
You're saying George W. Bush, John McCain and Mitt Romney are liberals? (Credibility implosion complete.)
So Dave, I guess this Anon quoting Geitner (out of context, I might add)doesn't really care as long as Obama is defeated. Republicans have NO OTHER GOALS. Arguing with them is a total waste of time.
You got it Tim... it's like the time I left a question on a certain malcontented bloggers site asking what solution he had to a specific problem and I got this response...
"it's not my job to have solutions, that's for Obama"
I learned long ago that those who choose to not be part of the solution, are really part of the problem.
That is where Anon is choosing to be... it's really an unhappy place...
These kids Love Obama
Children blessing President Bush and speaking in tongues.
Jesus Camp
Because he made history being the first african american President of the United States of America.
