WHY THE GOP WILL CONTINUE TO OBSTRUCT AND BE IRRELEVANT

UPDATE BELOW

Because they listen to nuts like this.  And believe his fantastical, delusional and maniacal crap. --h/t Andrew Sullivan's blog

"We conservatives, we do not accept bipartisanship in the pursuit of tyranny. Period. We will not negotiate the terms of our economic and political servitude. Period. We will not abandon our child to a dark and bleak future. We will not accept a fate that is alien to the legacy we inherited from every single future generation in this country. We will not accept social engineering by politicians and bureaucrats who treat us like lab rats, rather than self-sufficient human beings. There are those in this country who choose tyranny over liberty. They do not speak for us, 57 million of us who voted against this yesterday, and they do not get to dictate to us under our Constitution.

We are the alternative. We will resist. We're not going to surrender to this. We will not be passive, we will not be compliant in our demise. We're not good losers, you better believe we're sore losers! A good loser is a loser forever. Now I hear we're called 'purists.' Conservatives are called purists. The very people who keep nominating moderates, now call us purists the way the left calls us purists. Yeah, things like liberty, and property rights, individual sovereignty, and the Constitution, and capitalism. We're purists now. And we have to hear this crap from conservatives, or pseudo-conservatives, Republicans."

The squirrely thinking behind this is that only conservatives believe in freedom and that everyone else who isn't on the conservative side are tyrants and social engineering Maoists.

Of course he's delirious and mad as a hatter. Mark Levin, who wrote the above, identifies with a party that proposed forced vaginal probes on women, a party that actually supported male politicians who thought pregnancies from "legitimate" rape would not occur, or that pregnancies from rape were gifts from on high, a party that supported a woman who believes a child can become mentally retarded by being vaccinated against an STD.

He believes there's no tyranny in supporting a man for president who stated he would be happy to overturn Roe v. Wade, thereby enacting government-forced pregnancies on  girls and women.  He believes he belongs to a "moderate" party that suggested "self-deportation" as a solution to immigration and that said NO! to allowing young people, who were born here through no choice of their own, to be able to find a path to citizenship.  Levin tries to sell his moderate conservatism as a party that did not support overturning DADT and that does not want the DOMA rescinded.  Where's the defense of freedom and liberty when a party has to be taken kicking and screaming out of the dank and dark hole of homophobia and into an enlightened world where marriage for everyone is equally protected by the Constitution.

He believes in a moderate party of freedom and liberty that tried with all the might its GOP governors could muster to disrupt and disenfranchise certain segments of the voting population.

He says, in the above quote, that conservatives should double down and absolutely stay sore losers and uncompromising purists, which guarantees that Americans will be clawing at each others' throats as a way of governing unless and until we all accept the conservative ideology as the ONLY pure ideology that delivers liberty, property rights, individual sovereignty, the Constitution and capitalism.  By which he means, again, that only his brand of conservatism can save  his America from the people who voted on Tuesday.

Fortunately, he's wrong and Tuesday's election proved it.  And future elections will continue to bring reality to people like Mark Levin until they fold up their circus tents where they hawk a brand of politics that is exclusive rather than inclusive.   They know this.  Somewhere deep down in their frightened little hearts, they saw the future last Tuesday.  And it isn't theirs.

UPDATE:

Michael Gerson at The Washington Post:
The 2012 election was a substantial victory not only for President Obama but also for liberalism. Obama built his campaign on abortion rights and higher taxes for the wealthy. He was rewarded by an electorate that was younger, more pro-choice and more racially diverse than in 2008. The Obama coalition is not a fluke; it is a force.
Some conservatives have reacted in the tradition of Cicero: “Oh, the times! Oh, the customs!”Rush Limbaugh concluded, “We’ve lost the country,” which he described as a “country of children.” “There is no hope,” Ann Coulter said. And Bill O’Reilly: “It’s not a traditional America anymore.”

As a matter of strategy, it is generally not a good idea to express disdain for an electorate one hopes to eventually influence.

No! You are not. You are the past.

About 250 years ago, the republicans would have been the royalists. They are for "what was". They are the past. They want to take us backwards.

America is moving forward...and leaving republicans behind. Either help shape the future, or become irrelevant.

Brilliant, just brilliant> Not.

Hi Jerry,

Correctamento!

Anon, let me guess. You voted for the losing ticket.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw, I can only hope that the conservative movement listens to people like Rush, Levine and the myriad of bloggers who occasionally reference us and ignores all of the signposts of this election.

My stress level around election time would be so much lower if they could convince themselves that yes, working harder for a shrinking slice of the pie is better than changing.

I feel like we are about to a Battle Royale Cage Match in the GOP between those who can understand logic and the FOX News crowd.

I am so glad the tickets are free to this event...

There are even some who are saying the pollsters, who were 100% right on election night, are somehow wrong now on who actually voted for Obama and Romney.

Shaw Kenawe said...

No matter how many facts we give them, these type of conservatives refuse to accept truth, and find a way to ignore it.

I just went over to SF's blog and left links to show that blue states give more of their federal tax dollars to the govt. and receive less back than do the red conservative states.

No, says, SF, somehow those data are wrong.

This is why Tuesday night was so awful for most of the people on the right. They believe mythology and refuse to face facts.

Dave Dubya said...

Boo hoo! Let the crybaby fanatics whine. This is why they hate democracy and foolishly talk of liberty.

There is no liberty without democracy, and the radical Right is still at war with democracy.

Shaw, let me respond... Not.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Anon,

Whatever.

Silverfiddle said...

OK Shaw, I deal with you in good faith, but you have just mischaracterized my comments.

The chart you provided is correct, but it takes into account all kinds of federal government spending on itself. If it just dealt with assistance payments you would have a point. It does not, so you do not.

Please go back and re-read. We have even more data for you!

And a question, why are 9 of the 10 most fiscally unsound states blue ones?

Texas is the only state on the list, and that is for outstanding bonds that they used to catch up infrastructure. Unlike Obama's deep blue Illinois, which has a structurally untenable debt, Texas is back to a balanced budget while paying off those bonds.

@ Jerry:
About 250 years ago, the republicans would have been the royalists

Yeah, royalists were always talking about their God-given rights...

You have it backwards. Royalists vested unquestioning power in the government, and that describes today's progressives.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... here's a great article by Bill Boyarsky, late of the old Los Angeles Times... he asks a very pointed question... How could the republican party have been so stupid?

The answer can be found in people screaming for a party that is even more severely conservative...

"Royalists vested unquestioning power in the government, and that describes today's progressives."--SF

Do you really believe Americans will forget conservative efforts to force vaginal probes and unwanted pregnancies on girls and women. Force gay Americans to be second-class citizens? Force children of illegals to be second-class citizens, force American citizens to prove who they are before they can vote? Force gay Americans to lie about who they are in order to serve in the military?

How do you say such things without acknowledging these horrendous efforts on the part of conservatives to invest such power in government?

It is astounding to read what you've written!

How do you ignore that?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave,

Great article. Thanks.

Shaw Kenawe said...

"Texas is back to a balanced budget while paying off those bonds."

Maybe this is how Texas manages that:

As Brad wrote earlier today, there are a lot of Texas statistics that we’ll hear about this campaign season. You can expect Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), for example, to bring up how his state has generated 37 percent of the country’s new jobs since 2009.

Here’s one statistic, though, you won’t hear him touting: Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured people in the country. Twenty-six percent of Texas residents lack health insurance, compared with a national average that hovers around 17 percent. That works out to about 6.3 million uninsured Texans, a population nearly equal in size to the entire state of Massachusetts.

When you leave that many people in your state uninsured, it's easy to brag about balanced budgets. Balanced budgets off the backs of sick people. Yah. That's something to be proud of.

"That’s what they told us, isn’t it?

If Barack Hussein Obama wins reelection, it’s lights out for America. Jesus will weep, God will rage, poison arrows will fall from the sky, the ground will shake, Nazis, demons, Communists, panic on the switchboard and industrial disease, immorality, sparkly gay atheist fascists running free in the streets.

I mean, come on, all those TV preachers couldn’t be wrong, could they? All of them? Why it’s like they were just making stuff up, scaring people for their own personal agenda – you know, instead of really speaking for God.

Karl Rove, one-eyed king in the land of blinders, now he couldn’t have been wrong last night, could he? Romney won Ohio after all, tell me he did. How could it be? How could it be that Karl Rove was wrong? Romney didn’t win the popular vote in a landslide? Romney didn’t win the electoral college? But, but, but, that would mean Karl Rove wasn’t any more accurate than those aforementioned TV preachers!

Ted Nugent, shocker, rocker, and draft dodger – he couldn’t have been wrong, could he? My God, no, not The Nuge! I mean, he’s always been so reliable. Monday before the election he tweeted, “Dear God in heaven America vote Mitt Romney Paul Ryan Republican and save America!” Last night, after the election results could no longer be denied, despite Karl Rove’s frantic last minute Hail Mary to Almighty God for divine intervention, the Motor City Madman announced the end of America: “Goodluk America, u just voted for economic & spiritual suicide. Soulless fools!” and then he said “I cry tears of blood for The Last Best Place & the warriors who died for this tragedy.”

And yet – and yet – here on this gloriously cold beautiful Wednesday, it appears as if America is still standing.

Probably Ted can’t see it, what with his eyes full of bloody tears and all – and seriously, tears of blood? You’re crying tears of blood? Dude, that's not right. Visit a doctor. Vision is totally covered under Obamacare and now it looks like Michigan will have to implement it after all. Thanks to Obama, you’re covered, Ted, I’m just saying."

more insanity from the right over the Obama victory:

"All family and friends, even close family and friends, who I know to be Democrats are hereby dead to me. I vow never to speak to them again for the rest of my life, or have any communications with them. They are in short, the enemies of liberty. They deserve nothing less than hatred and utter contempt. I strongly urge all other libertarians to do the same. Are you married to someone who voted for Obama, have a girlfriend who voted 'O'. Divorce them. Break up with them without haste. Vow not to attend family functions, Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas for example, if there will be any family members in attendance who are Democrats," - Eric Dondero, LibertarianRepublican.net.

RN, you have a record of indicting "the left" or the "gay left" for the remarks of one person.

Now you come here and protest that Eric Dondero doesn't speak for you or the libertarian/republican right?

Sorry. You show no such understanding when someone on the left says something outrageous. You are only too happy to paint all lefties as guilty of the same.

Dondero identifies with libertarianism and conservatism. I will apply YOUR rule of guilt by association that you so eagerly apply to liberals when one person says or does something unacceptable.

Dondero belongs to libertarianism, just as you've given ownership to the left and liberalism on Maher's and Signorile's statements.

In the final hours of the campaign, Romney either developed never-before-seen acting skills or truly believed he was on the glide path to victory; inside the Fox News bubble, no other outcome seemed possible.
But far more important than any of this, as we look to the future, is that since Romney’s loss, we’ve continued to hear conservatives who do know they are on camera or writing for publications carry right on cementing the impression that they think Obama won only because he was the choice of Moocher Nation: Not only had they failed to “take back America” from the guy Newt Gingrich delighted in calling “the food-stamp president,” but non-white America, they inferred, is not really America at all.

All of which explains how, in a tepid economy, Romney managed to lose the election more than Obama won it. And yet, they’re still at it, with Ole Miss students contributing some standout visuals to the narrative that the GOP is not minority-friendly.

Huh? It doesn't even make sense as a sentence. We don't inherit from the future for cryin' out loud.

Shaw Kenawe said...

KanaW,

Levin's is a fevered rant not based in reality, rather based in his delusions that this is a country only he and his fellow conservatives know how to govern.

That sentence doesn't make sense because Levin is senseless and enraged by Tuesday's reality.

Les Carpenter said...

Very good Shaw, very good. Even when I AGREE with you and merely point out I have experienced that side Dondero you rightly take issue with.

Sure I used leftists to point out the hypocrisy that actually exists in the left, just as you are attempting to use me, and have used others as well to do the same.

Okay, fair is fair. :-) let the fun begin.

"No, SF. The royalists vested unquestioning power in the king. And the last republican president we had wanted to be an imperial president."

And this one does not? You're one-eye blind.

You scream in horror when the GOP hijacks the state, but cheer when your guys do it. You're inconsistent.

I want sanity restored to the federal government, and the extra-constitutional powers taken away so nobody can hijack its powers to infringe upon the sovereignty of others. That is where I differ from both you guys and republicans.

You and statist republicans are two sides of the same coin.

Les Carpenter said...

Shaw, I find it amazing how many leftists and rightists refer to the educated on the other side as senseless and other choice descriptions.

Something the educated are good at I guess.

Bracing for a long and nasty few years. And thanks TAO, the feeling is mutual I assure you.

skudrunner said...

Shaw,

The left worked very hard on increasing their base and because of their efforts, they won the election.

The opposite is the Republicans party who felt the majority of voters wanted to pay less in taxes and wanted the opportunity to succeed through their hard work.

Tough to argue with success and the democrats were successful. 50% are either union or on the federal payroll in some fashion. Of course it doesn't hurt that they have a very corrupt media behind them but they worked to make that happen.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skudrunner, pure b.s.

When a Republican wins elections it's the will of the people; when Democrats win elections, it's because they're behind a corrupt media and only union thugs and lazy moochers vote for them.

Go peddle that b.s. on a conservative's blog. They're all wallowing in it this week, and will love it.

Shaw Kenawe said...

RN,

"We conservatives, we do not accept bipartisanship in the pursuit of tyranny."

That is the ranting of a person who's lost his mind, of a person throwing a temper tantrum because his side lost.

If you think his statement is one that will help this country come together and work to solve our financial problems, then you've gone over to the dark side as well.

Doubling down on obstructionism is what's being sold to the conservatives, and it's what will ultimately doom their party.

skudrunner said...

Shaw,
You are the only one who called people who receive federal money lazy moochers, if that is what you believe I am surprised.

I gave your side a compliment and in return you lash out. I do wish the republicans would change their ways and be more like the democrats so that is a compliment.

To say the media is not biased and corrupt would not be truthful and even you know it.

S.W. Anderson said...

Whenever Levin, Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin -- the whole misanthropic menagerie -- utter their demagogic drivel, they're making money. There's a market for ignorance, selfishness and ugliness. They're in business to serve that market. I don't know what the others make, but Limbaugh reportedly makes $50 million a year.

The bottom line is, fools and their money are soon parted.

With that in minnd, I would love to know how much Karl Rove pocketed for his epic-fail efforts in the 2012 election.

Rational Nation USA said...

Re: tyranny. That can be found in what the tea party-crazy governor of Michigan has done to long list of communities in his state, taking governance away from elected officials and installing right-wing cronies to replace mayors and city councils.

Voter suppression is also a bid for tyranny.

We know who's responsible for these things, and they're not liberals.
