UPDATE BELOW
See below for the New Daily News headline.
George Zimmerman charged for allegedly pointing gun at girlfriend in Florida:
"The former neighborhood watchman who gained national notoriety after killing Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager, was busted Monday on suspicion of domestic violence 15 miles north of Orlando.
This is far from the first time he has been back in the news since his acquittal in July."
This is the guy the right-wing noise machine and bloggers defended and made into a martyr during the Trayvon Martin trial.
His estranged wife brought charges against him a few months ago for his thuggish behavior involving guns.
And he's in the news again for more aggressive behavior involving guns and women.
Seems he has a problem.
We knew this all along. Those who fell over themselves defending him?
Not so much.
Who's surprised by this?
Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo:
"It always seemed possible to me that Zimmerman was just a coward with a gun and something to prove who got scared and killed a kid.
Obviously we still can't know just what happened that night. But police have now responded to two domestic violence incidents with two separate women in less than three months - and this in less than five months since his acquittal.
Now we have him allegedly pointing a loaded weapon at his new girlfriend and apparently barricading himself in the house after police arrived on the scene. Add to this the earlier history of violent incidents including violently resisting arrest in 2005 and the real world verdict is now beyond a reasonable doubt as to this point: Zimmerman is a liar and a habitually violent and frequently out of control man who should never have been allowed to possess a gun.
Given all we know now about Zimmerman and all the additional evidence he's provided us with post-acquittal, there's simply no reason to doubt the worst case scenario of how Trayvon Martin died. The only real question is whether Zimmerman shot him in cold blood or killed him during the confrontation he himself forced to happen.
Those who supported the Martin family and were outraged by the verdict and the whole case have every right to grim 'I told you sos' and even snark aimed at Zimmerman's dead-ender defenders.
But speaking for myself it is more a sense of being sick to my stomach. Yes, it's an injustice we already knew about. But this just makes it all the more clear who Zimmerman is and by whatever mix of details what happened. And I can't help but think of that kid lying dead on his back." --Josh Marshall
UPDATE:
Wednesday, November 20, 2013:
"George Zimmerman was told today he must surrender his guns in order to get out of jail following his arrest for the alleged aggravated assault of his girlfriend.
A Florida judge set bond at $9,000 and Zimmerman's lawyers said they expect him to get out of jail Wednesday.
He must also wear an electronic monitoring device and have no contact with his girlfriend.
Zimmerman stood expressionless as the judge explained that there is probable cause in his case and a bead of sweat trickled down his face as the judge explained the conditions for his release.
The state attorney said that the victim, identified by police as Zimmerman's girlfriend Samantha Scheibe, said there was a prior domestic violence incident a week-and-a-half ago that involved "a choking."
The victim also said that Zimmerman has threatened to commit suicide, saying he "had nothing to lose," the state attorney said.
"She is in fear for her safety," the state attorney said of the victim. The victim asked for "no contact and no return."
His arraignment will be Jan. 7, 2014."
Still nothing on the conservative blogs that fell over themselves defending this guy. Where are all his supporters now? Like the commenter below who gets the grand prize for the stupidest reaction to the verdict:
beamish said...
I'm outraged by the verdict. Trayvon Martin's parents should have been ordered to buy Zimmerman a box of ammunition.

None of Zimmerman's admirers thought for one minute that the guy may have been reckless in what he did. Not one. It's not polite to say "We told you so," but...

Kills a kid and threatens women = right wing hero.
Zimmerman is trying to turn this into another "he said, she said", same as he did when he assaulted his first GF. She filed a restraining order and he responded by filing one of his own (back in 2005).
BTW, HOW is it that he has a new girlfriend so soon after divorcing his wife? What woman would be so stupid? And, get this... the new GF is pregnant. According to the 911 call placed by Zimmerman his GF "went crazy" and while she said he threatened her with a gun, he says his gun was locked up... and he mentioned HER gun. All this disclosed in a 911 call placed by Zimmerman after his GF placed a 911 call and the police showed up. Zimmerman refused to go outside and talk to the cops, even though they were banging on the door! The 911 operator keeps asking why he won't go out and talk to the police who are there.
And, Shaw, agree completely with the comment you submitted in response to my post on the topic... Zimmerman is a "creepy, gun-toting little weasel". Also a liar. I wonder how long it will be before his NEXT GF (the one he doesn't have yet) files a domestic violence charge against him?
Zimmerman is obviously a disturbed individual who has a violent personality. He has many incidents in his background of aggressive behavior, even assaulting a policeman. The guy's a mess. He shouldn't be allowed near a gun. He's a whacked-out, angry little creep.
I'm surprised he hasn't harmed someone else.
I'm trying to come up with who he can kill/threaten that will finally get the attention of his admirers. I think maybe nobody. They just like the ballsiness.
I haven't checked out the right wing blogs yet to see if they've come to his defense. Again. Add all these incidents up and you find a very disturbing pattern of explosive anger, guns, women, even a death.
Murr Brewster! Great to see you hear. I'm a fan of your wonderfully witty blog, which I found through Infidel753.
And yes, the sort of in-your-face, high-testosterone loud-mouth seems to be highly admired in those quarters.
Creepy people are attracted to other creepy people. That explains why so many apologists on the right supported this walking mess of a thug.
They pinned every sort of disgusting motive on the unarmed kid who was killed, and then made a hero out of this stupid bully.
Just look at the type of people they admire and then you get the picture of why they revel in demeaning the Obamas and any other people of true quality.
George Zimmerman: THE RIGHT'S HERO.
Why did she threaten him? Why else would someone point a gun at a person in a stand your ground state?
Seriously, this guy is the newest member of the "failed to take advantage of a second chance after they got off club" Joining of course, OJ Simpson...
Well.... old George still has a defense fund website ....http://www.gzdefensefund.com/donate/
if those pesky cops keep taking his guns... gosh... the poor boy does need to buy more. How else can he 'stand his ground' and watch over neighborhoods?
some of the comments printed there, posted by donors, are, ah, rather enlightening,to say the least. But gosh, we do not need no background checks... the NRAsays so!
Some people do not have the right to own guns and he is one.
This is not a right wing issue, although it will be portrayed as one. He got off shooting martin because there was not a compelling case against him.
"He got off shooting martin because there was not a compelling case against him."
Small correction: "He got off KILLING Martin..."
No one disputes the fact that Zimmerman killed an unarmed teen.
What is fairly certain now, after months of watching this walking time bomb threatening women and others, is that he's a disturbed individual who should not own a gun--for his own safety and the safety of people who come in contact with him.
It's too late for Trayvon Martin.
Schadenfreude at human self-destruction is an ugly thing.
He killed another person, and millions of people hate him, many who have said they would like to kill him.
This entire story is a tragedy. I get the feeling the left would love it if Zimmerman blew his brains out. Many of you would see it at justice finally served.
No Ogler, that is NOT true.
What the anger is about is how Zimmerman's defenders smeared Trayvon Martin and his family and even claimed Martin DESERVED TO DIE.
Where was the compassion for that family who lost their son?
Nowhere.
Zimmerman is a walking tragedy, but no one wants him to blow his brains out. More likely he needs to be placed somewhere where he can do no more damage to others.
I'm wondering if "Ogler" was as concerned with what happened to the Martin family as h/she is with what has happened to Zimmerman.
And was he/she as concerned with the Schadenfreude spread all over the conservative blogs after the not guilty verdict?
What my post is about is the fact that people couldn't look past the Martin tragedy and recognize that Zimmerman is a disturbed individual. He had a hisstory of violent and aggressive behavior BEFORE the Martin death, and it has continued since the trial.
The only thing the rightwingers were interested in was triumphalism over a dead kid.
I don't recall Martin's family getting hundreds of death threats.
I don't know what is in your mind or your soul, but I see a party going on here.
People who defended this "creepy thug" did so based upon the evidence, just like the jury
The latest incident you cite is not in the same category. People reached judgments based upon the facts presented, but some choose to read racism into it. So be it.
We agree that he shouldn't have access to firearms, but given he's about as popular as Hitler, and there have been threats to his person and his life, disarming him becomes problematic.
Personally, I would like to see him go into some type of witness protection program and be given intensive mental health counseling. I know the left enjoys portraying him as a bloodthirsty buffoon, a cross between Barney Fife and Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Steet, but I imagine killing that young man is weighing heavily on him, taking nothing away from the heartache and anguish of Martin's family.
And this is a gross broadbrush, so this post is about triumphalism at Zimmerman's woes:
"The only thing the rightwingers were interested in was triumphalism over a dead kid."
I wish it not to happen, but I predict a dead George Zimmerman if he doesn't get help. Maybe then the angry left will feel a sense of justice.
Go ahead, delete it.
//go into some type of witness protection program//
well, I too have a wish for him to go into a protective program....hopefully 10-25 years. I do believe he would look good in orange and may get some help for his racist. misogynist, and gun/penis displacement issues. It would be a good protective program for anyone who may have the misfortune to encounter him.
OGLER: "I don't recall Martin's family getting hundreds of death threats."
SK: There was enough despicable behavior on both sides. But how many "Trayvon deserved to die!" comments did you read and react to? How many comments that said his mother and father were bad parents? None, I think. Martin, a dead kid, and his family were also vilified.
But, yes, sympathy does tend to gravitate to the person whose life was taken away. Especially a teen's life.
OGLER: "I don't know what is in your mind or your soul, but I see a party going on here."
SK: Well the party is IN your mind. Nothing in my post say anything about a celebration or triumphalism. That's YOUR interpretation. And I'd examine why you interpret it that way.
OGLER: "People who defended this "creepy thug" did so based upon the evidence, just like the jury."
SK: The jury found him not guilty "as charged." Doesn't mean he didn't kill the unarmed teen. There were only two witnesses to what really happened that night, and one of them is dead. Zimmerman's prior and subsequent behavior fits my and other people's definition of a "creepy thug." His latest attack was on his pregnant girlfriend.
OGLER: "The latest incident you cite is not in the same category. People reached judgments based upon the facts presented, but some choose to read racism into it. So be it."
SK: Not one word about racism is in any of my posts.
You brought that into this discussion, not I. Straw man.
OGLER: "We agree that he shouldn't have access to firearms, but given he's about as popular as Hitler, and there have been threats to his person and his life, disarming him becomes problematic."
SK: If he's attracted criticism to himself, he has only himself to blame. If one looks at his record, there's no question that he has problems with controlling his emotions--especially his rages, and he uses guns to menace people. Creepy.
OGLER: "I know the left enjoys portraying him as a bloodthirsty buffoon, a cross between Barney Fife and Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street,"
SK: That's YOUR description, not mine or any other blogger I've read. Were your sensibilities as injured when the right wing bloggers called Trayvon Martin a thug who deserved to die? Zimmerman is in trouble again because he's a disturbed individual who has been in trouble because of his violent behavior and his irresponsible use of guns. Your sympathy should be with the people he's intimidated with his rages.
OGLER: "...but I imagine killing that young man is weighing heavily on him, taking nothing away from the heartache and anguish of Martin's family."
SK: If that were so, Zimmerman would have conducted his post-trial life quite differently. Also, what the hell happened to all that money people contributed to his defense fund? He didn't use it to pay off his debts, according to his defense lawyer. He's a bully, a thug, AND a grifter, it appears.
He's learned nothing. He strikes me more as an over-privilEged guy whose family connections kept him from facing the consequences of his abusive behavior.
OGLER: "And this is a gross broadbrush, so this post is about triumphalism at Zimmerman's woes:"
Wrong again. This post is anger at authorities and his family not getting this unstable man off the streets and away from guns. Did you not understand that he pointed a gun at his pregnant girlfriend? He's learned NOTHING about guns and the value of life. Nothing. That's why people are angry.
OGLER: "I wish it not to happen, but I predict a dead George Zimmerman if he doesn't get help. Maybe then the angry left will feel a sense of justice."
Angry left? Sense of justice? Yeah. Complain about that to Trayvon Martin's mother.

George Zimmerman was arrested by Seminole County deputies…
November 18, 2013|By Rene Stutzman, Orlando Sentinel
George Zimmerman was arrested Monday after he cocked and pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend, shattered a glass-top table, then pushed her out of the house and barricaded himself inside after she ordered him to move out, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
He surrendered peacefully a few minutes later and was hauled off to jail, where he was being held without bail on domestic-violence and aggravated-assault charges.
It was the second time in three months that the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer, who was acquitted of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, was handcuffed after being accused of domestic violence and threatening a woman with a gun.
In a September blowup with his estranged wife, police filed no charges. This time, authorities did not buy his story, one that he quickly got into public circulation.
While deputies were outside, banging on the door, trying to get him to come out, Zimmerman called 911 and blamed Monday's dispute on his girlfriend, 27-year-old Samantha Scheibe, whom he said had "gone crazy on me."
So Zimmerman blames the pregnant women he pointed a gun at?
Sounds familiar doesn't it?
Ogler,
You invited yourself into this forum for the sole purpose of attributing false motives to people, and to engage in gratuitous and ritualistic partisan sniping, nothing more. Self-appointed vigilante that you are, perhaps you should take your advice and treat yourself to some "intensive mental health counseling."
Zimmerman does not need to be protected from society. Society needs to be protected from him.
We are always talking about the "signs" that might show when a person is dangerous; if these aren't signs I don't know what is.
Agree with what Shaw, okjimm and Jerry wrote above. Except... I do believe the racism of Zimmerman was a big factor in the murder of Trayvon Martin (and I use the word murder because that is what I believe it was).
