Sunday Night Funnies

Just got this in an email.

Thank you R.D.!

The end of 2014 marks, as the ends of all years do, the creation of “best of” and “worst of” awards. It was in that spirit that the American Wishful Thinker awarded the half-term, half-wit Alaska governor and former disastrous vice presidential candidate, and most powerful female politician in 3 square miles of the back woods of Alaska, the “American Grifter of 2014” award in on Saturday.

As she contemplates her political future, such as a possible run for the presidency, Palin can indeed look back on 2014 as a year in which much was achieved, if one has no sense of reality. Let’s start with the drunken brawl Palin and her foul-mouthed daughter, Bristol, embarrassed themselves and the rest of the civilized world with. When one describes Palin as the most powerful female politician on the planet, one inevitably has to admit that one is either in an alternate reality or in serious need of mental health counseling, because that description gets eye rolls from the rest of the sane world.

2014 also marked the year that, not for the first time, Palin’s ass-kissers thought her political judgment proved to be superior to that of the current president. In 2008, when Russia’s Vladimir Putin was invading Georgia, Palin predicted that then Senator Obama’s indecision would be just the sort of thing that would encourage him to go after the Ukraine next. The foreign policy establishment ridiculed her for being a boob for suggesting such a thing. But, one can now ask, who is the boob and who the prophet? Well, Sarah Palin, matriarch of a drunken, brawling family, is still the boob, since Putin’s Russia’s economy is in the tank, and his oil reserves are not doing him any good. And the Russian Ruble against the American dollar?

Palin is headed for the Iowa Freedom Summit in 2015, an event that is attracting almost every presumed moron on the Republican side for president. Her presence there is fueling speculation for more of her failed ambitions. She recently hinted that she was thinking of elected office again because somewhere in Alaska a village is missing its idiot mayor, and because:   Grifter. On the other hand, she has been doing rather well as a drunken brawler maker.

Any foolish Republican at the summit would make a mistake to kiss her posterior and solicit her approval and advice. The current competitors would do well to keep ignoring the fruitcake. Only four of the 15 congressional candidates endorsed by Palin nationwide this year  won their primaries, a far worse record than the previous two elections, when Palin played a role as kingmaker and her approval was eagerly sought by candidates looking for an edge with Republican voters. Palin remains talented at raising money. “But her influence on the actual political process is diminishing rapidly,” said John Feehery, a Republican political consultant and former aide to GOP leadership in the House of Representatives.

Sarah Palin for President? Oh Please! Yes! Please! And Louis Gohmert for her running mate!

Lol .. On a related note: I recently watched a YT vid (I'll try to find the link) with a very similar Clinton meme. Of course, people laughing at that or maligning Clinton were horrible sexists and misogynists and hated women and supported the wage gap and rape. But for Palin, well, one is doing one's patriotic duty to libel her.

Public figures get no sympathy from me, of course; eat away. But it's always nice to find lulz fodder. I do wonder when's the last time, if ever, it was considered anti-woman to go after Palin? We certainly no it wouldn't be anti-white.

When one describes Palin as the most powerful female politician on the planet,

Shaw, whoever made that claim just narrowly missed getting billed for one tea-besnorted computer monitor. Most powerful female politician on the planet? Dilma Rousseff, anyone? Angela Merkel? She's not even the most powerful female politician in the United States, given some of the influential members of Congress. I no longer even consider Palin a politician. She's evolved into a niche celebrity cashing in on a previous career as a politician, and making occasional noises about running for office to keep her fans from losing interest.

I know a thing or two about ancient Greece, so don't even get me started on that Gohmert link. I'd be here all day. That man needs to pay more attention to the views of his intellectual superiors, which I would judge to include the average potato.

Best wishes for 2015 -- of course the Republicans will continue to daunt us with their evil, but at least Palin and Gohmert will entertain us with their stupidity.

Josh, no one is maligning Palin because she's a woman. They're making fun of her because she's a jerk. Jerks can be men and women. That's not sexist, that's reality.

Josh: I condemned explicitly sexist attacks on Palin when she was McCain's running mate, and still consider them wrong and counter-productive now.

Nothing in this post is misogynistic. All of it could equally easily be said of a male politician / celebrity with a similar mentality and habits.

Right-wing attacks on Hillary Clinton that I've seen usually devolve rapidly into personal insults based on her age and alleged features of her personal appearance, which are pretty obviously sexist since the same people would not insult a male politician in similar terms.

I know liberals sometimes insult Palin that way, but they shouldn't, and this post doesn't.

Right, make fun of someone who no longer has any power in politics. What great intellectual skills.

And that's certainly my stance. But that doesn't appear to be the leeway given to many who insult Clinton. Attacking a woman! The nerve, the gall. And certainly not for those who get after Obama. Black folks can't be jerks. Diversity is our strength! lol

Straw man. Nobody is claiming that female politicians are above criticism. The objection is not to attacking a woman, the objection is to attacking her because she's a woman, or attacking her in terms which are clearly sexist since a male with analogous traits would not be similarly attacked.

By an analogy you may find easier to understand, we're not disgusted with right-wing attacks on Obama because his being black makes him above criticism. We're disgusted because those attacks so often take forms like calling him "Obongo", comparing him and his wife to gorillas or chimpanzees, "jokes" involving watermelons, etc. which are obviously racist

ah, dude, or dudierette, she never had any power in politics....she was a joke, she is a joke...and, when someone like her sends out a stupid lob of a pitch, you hit it out of the park. Sarah Palin put a new spin on stupid, and calling it is not sexist, nor anything else. Amongst tall trees, she is a lawn gnome.

I wasn't aware I had met the qualifying criteria for a straw-man, as I did not accuse any specific opponent of making that argument, so I did not misrepresent anything; just that I had recently seem a similar situation with Hillary Clinton wherein folks were calling it "sexism" and "misogyny" to claim Clinton was stupid.

As far as no one claiming women in politics are above criticism: We'll see. If--and how big that "if" is is anyone's guess--Clinton runs for president, I'm predicting at least 10 pieces a day about American misogyny, a culture of women hatred, and sexism being the only reason people disagree with her or criticize her.

It's only a prediction and may well end up being very wrong, but it's certainly what I expect to happen.

Josh, I can point you to several right wing blogs where Mrs. Clinton is regularly referred to as a "hag," and other names that are direct insults to being female. That is sexist. Calling someone "stupid" is not sexist, since both male and female politicians can be stupid, or say stupid things.

Mrs. Palin is known for saying stupid things and for being a quitter. That's not sexist, that's reality.
There's nothing in my critique of her that is insulting to her looks or to her sex.

She has never been referred to as the "c" word here as I have been @Lisa's "Who's Your Daddy" filthy blog, where men and women who are not of her political tribe are routinely attacked with the most vile and disgusting images and names.

Her blog is known around the blogsphere for its degradation of liberal African-Americans and anyone who isn't a card-carrying bigot and hate-monger. Also, it has a stellar cast of colossally illiterate right wing commenters. IOW, a veritable grime and slime pit.

Josh: "Black folks can't be jerks."

No one here's ever claimed that, because Alan West would be proof of that statement being false.
