National Park tweets climate facts amid Trump social media crackdown

The Twitter feed for Badlands National Park sent out three messages on Tuesday promoting climate science amid a new Trump administration crackdown on agencies communicating on social media.

"The pre-industrial concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was 280 parts per million (ppm). As of December 2016, 404.93 ppm," the park tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

“Today, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is higher than at any time in the last 650,000 years. #climate. … Flipside of the atmosphere; ocean acidity has increased 30% since the Industrial Revolution. ‘Ocean Acidification" #climate #carboncycle’”

This is a violation of free speech. We need the EPA's information more than ever, but the agency is being kneecapped by the Trump administration.

You also heard about the USDA's research, correct?

I'm alarmed. It will be difficult to sleep tonight.

Many climate scientists believe we are near, at, or beyond the tipping point. It has been my belief for quite some time that we would do nothing or not enough to address global warming (AKA the Chinese hoax). Now we be doing less than nothing, as governmental agencies will no longer even be studying the data. Another example of how Trump becoming president will have incredibly bad and long lasting/irreversible consequences. Most people don't even have a clue when it comes to how much damage this man can and WILL do.

If the Republicans (this is not just Trump, as we well know) continue to harass and intimidate and silence scientists, and to place scientifically-illiterate people in executive roles over them, then the effect will be the same as in the USSR when Stalin crippled Soviet genetic science by backing the Lysenkoist idiocy. More and more research and education in climate science, stem-cell technology, and other affected fields will migrate to other countries, and the US will lose its reputation as a scientific leader and fall behind.

Trump cannot lead the world backward. He can only cost the US its leadership role altogether.

The work of any despotic regime. Is Trump taking advice from Kim Jong Un?

The thinking is that if you remove any reference to Climate Change, then the people will believe it doesn't exist.

Have to build lots more prisons to act as if that lie was correct. All of those millions of people who were willing to risk big prison sentences and fines just to make Trump feel picked upon for not getting the popular vote.

This is a backdoor muzzle on the press. Do I see a first amendment violation looming?
