These are the thugs who want to have a "Straight Pride" parade in Boston on Aug. 31:

via Daily Kos:

Just a face in the crowd: Mark Sahady, center in black helmet, would-be "Straight Pride" parade organizer, surrounded by Proud Boys and media at the Patriot Prayer rally-turned-riot June 30, 2018.

To read the regular press accounts (as in, say, The Washington Post or The Boston Globe) about the upcoming “Straight Pride” parade planned for Aug. 31 in Boston, you’d think the organizers were just another set of right-wing provocateurs—which is at least a kind of half-truth.

The whole truth—beyond the stark reality that, as BuzzFeed notes, Boston actually has denied the permit for this event, so it’s unlikely to even occur—is that these guys are much more than that: The chief organizer is a far-right street brawler who has traveled the country participating in and organizing Proud Boys-style events that are billed as “rallies” but in reality are fronts for provocations intended to create street violence directed at left-wing activists.

Mark Sahady, the Boston man who bills himself as president of “Super Happy Fun America,” the organizers of Straight Pride, has a long history not just of organizing violent events, but also of doing so with the active participation of hate group members, self-declared fascists, and active white nationalists.

But James Fell, who wrote the following, understands the stupidity and arrogance of Mark Sahady's idiot idea:

One should be proud of who they are as well as what they are. Unless of course one is a criminal, or, Donald Trump. Oh that's right, Trump is both.

The goal is to treat everyone as a person and be part of a society. Why do we insist on being accepted like everyone else than have a parade for gay pride to say we are not part of society but special. When are we going to have an Asian or Mexican pride day.

The more we say we want equality the more we act as if we don't.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skudrunner, someone sounds a bit testy today.

Actually, we have an Asia "pride day," it's called the Chinese New Year and it's celebrated with all kinds of festivities in many large cities around the country. We also celebrate Cinco di Mayo, which is definitely a Mexican pride day, since many cities around the country enjoy Mexican culture, food, and music on that day. The Irish have March 17 when everyone gets drunk and is proud to be Irish. The Italians have Columbus Day when everyone celebrates an explorer who committed genocide on people in the new world.

So what's your problem with gay pride day?

The LGBTQ community is STILL being harassed, mocked, beaten in many parts of this country:

Wiki: In recent years LGBT violence has been on the rise in the United States. In 2016, the killing of LGBT people hit a record high. The biggest act of violence occurred in Orlando when Omar Manteen attacked the Pulse nightclub in the city killing 49 and wounding 53 others. This was not only the biggest attack targeting LGBT people but one of the biggest mass shootings in the United States history. There was also 28 Americans who identified as LGBT and were killed in 2016 alone."

L.G.B.T. People Are More Likely to Be Targets of Hate Crimes Than Any Other Minority Group

Just this week in London, two lesbians were beaten and bloodied because they refused to entertain the straight people who demanded they kiss each other so the straights could watch.

You're whining about the wrong thing. You should be OUTRAGED that normal Americans (and LGBT people ARE normal, they're just a minority. Homosexuality has been around since we humans fell out of the trees. It's part of being human, it's just a minority sexuality. Period.) Why aren't you whining about the cretins who beat the crap out of and even KILL LGBT peopel?

Have you every been forced to kiss the opposite sex on public transportation and then beaten bloody because you refused? That's just ONE instance of brutality our gay brothers and sisters endure at the hands of barbaric heterosexuals.

I think we should have a Gay Pride Day every month until the monsters who commit atrocious acts against the LGBT community learn to live with their fellow citizens and accept them as fellow human beings.

So far, those heteroes don't know how to do that. Get angry and petty about that, not Gay Pride parades.

Shaw, However disappointing you response was it was not unexpected. Myopic vision is rampant in the US and it all revolves around divisive politics. Maybe if we steered everyone toward an inclusive society instead of a excluded society things would change.

Shaw Kenawe said...

How is having a Gay Pride parade divisive. I'd like to hear your reasoning.

Les Carpenter said...

Yes skudrunner, I would be most interested in your reply to Shaw's question as well.

What a fiasco

Skud, you should visit for Pride, festival atmosphere and very inclusive.

Something of a shortage of women in that photo up top, and I bet the "parade" will be the same way. Maybe they take one look at the mob of overweight unhygienic-looking male storm-trooper wannabes and decide maybe they should give lesbianism a try?

As for gay vs straight parades, the way I see it, "gay pride" is largely pride at being able to survive and remain true to oneself in the face of a society which until recently was relentlessly hostile, and in some areas still is, as your examples in the comment show. It is the pride of the persecuted at their long defiance of persecution. Since the Christianization of the Roman Empire, homosexual people have been targeted for mutilation, torture, and death, and there are still people who would gladly subject them to more of the same. Heterosexuality as such has no such history of being under attack.

And holy crap -- that tweet about the Moon being part of Mars -- is that.....real? I mean, I knew he was stupid, but.....

skudrunner said...

The special interest groups want to be treated like everyone else so they have a parade to show they are not.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud: "The special interest groups want to be treated like everyone else so they have a parade to show they are not."

skud, I'd take you seriously if you had registered your complaint about "special interest groups" when the Charlotteville Nazis marched and when the KKKers marched, but since you never spoke of your irritation here about those groups, I'll assume you weren't bothered by them. But you ARE bothered by Gay Pride parades. Those parades are celebration of everyone, not just the LGBT communities. It's inclusive. Hmmmmmm. That explains a lot.

Shaw, the right wingers hate the gays because God told them to. When will you understand that? That's why they do all they can to make gay people miserable. They believe God hates them. Sick!

skudrunner said...

I am not against any parade because everyone has a right to celebrate who they are and what they believe, yes including skin heads.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud, all our "rights" have limits and a measure of responsibility. Even the right to free speech is limited. The right to free assembly is limited. Groups of Americans cannot assemble and plot to overthrow the government, for example. So yes, even Skinheads have a right to march, although I don't understand why you use a violent group's rights in this discussion while talking about a Gay Pride parade. They are NOT the same thing. One advocates violence the other, Gay Pride, advocates acceptance and diversity. The Gay Pride parade here in Boston has always been free from violence and a happy day for all.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Infidel753 Many far righties have bought into being offended by openly gay people having parades, holding hands, kissing in public, etc., all things heteros have enjoyed without fear of beatings. And yes, religion has been the leading cause of hatred toward a natural, albeit minority, human sexuality. People like skud just don't get it, and I'm sad to say, I don't think they ever will. As I said, we should have a Gay Pride parade EVERY DAMN MONTH until the pseudo-offended get it into their heads that the LGBT community are equal to and deserve acceptance for who they are.

And yes, trump tweeted that piece about the Moon and Mars. Leader of the free world. My 10 year old grandson is smarter than the POTUS!!!

Obviously Ms Shaw" can not face the fact(s) that her “wonderful” President Barack Hussain Obama is, and was a totally utter failure. And thank the Good Lord that the American people are finally waking up and turning against the “Leader of the Resistance”

Re: Trump's Moon/Mars Tweet: It's embarrassing that our President can't articulate coherent statements. Compare with Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, even more recent Presidents like Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, Obama. Trump's simply nowhere near in the same league, but belongs at the bottom of the list. To date, there really is no upside to Trump's Presidency, as much as I wish I could find one.

@Infidel - Don Lemon understood what Trump meant with the Mars\Moon quip and cur Trump a lot of slack. IMO Don is right, again.

Dear Anonymous @10:54 AM,

Just like the Pathological Liar-in-Chief, you make stuff up.

Barack Obama is more respected and admired than your Porn Star Shagger of a preznit.

Trump has never been able to break 50% approval by the American people. Trump is the most unpopular president in modern American history. You're a delusional wingnut who's probably an escapee from WYD. BTW, I'm told that blog is dead. Aw,shucks! /sarcasm/

Survey of scholars places Trump as third worst president of all time

You're entitled to your own opinion, Anon, but not your own facts.

Thanks for stopping by. And have a sparkling day.

Shaw Kenawe said...

R.D., See the comment above and understand that a small percentage of Americans actually believe President Chaos is popular and smart. Seriously. That's some deep, sick delusional thinking. But every country has that element in its population. We're no different.

Shaw Kenawe said...

RN I did a quick search and couldn't find what Don Lemon said. Do you have a link? Or can you paraphrase it?

Sleeping through a loud thunderstorm does not mean that one is prone to deny that it happened. More likely, the blissful slumberer is delighted that his or her sleep was not disturbed, but doesn't deny that the storm happened.

Why, then, when evidence presented in the Mueller Report all but indicts a sitting president for obstruction of justice and facilitating election tampering by a foreign power, do so many of his supporters deny that such things happened?

It is not simply because they slept through it, though they might have. It is more likely because they have failed to open their eyes and ears, and even their brains, to the facts. They are the very same people who would deny the falling of a tree in a forest if there was nobody there to hear it.

In the case of, or more to the point, against Trump, they may simply not want to admit that they have been wrong in supporting him, lest they have to reckon with their own inadequacies and shortcomings. Perhaps, in the end, it is too embarrassing for them to admit their own mistakes.

The Anonymous above is too much of a coward to give us even a blognym, (it's YOU Rusty, we know, you've used those descriptions about the gay community at WYD for years).

Anyway, those who use the vilest words to label people they know nothing about are usually frightened about the feelings those people arouse in themselves whenever anythig about the LGBT community is published.

Again and again we read reports about gay bashers who are closet gays themselves and could never come to terms with their natural selves.

Always be suspicious about those who are the loudest and vilest when it comes to anything to do with the LGBT community. It's a good bet they're self-haters. SAD!

Chris Evans agrees with you Shaw! His take on the Boston Straight Pride parade.

"Just a thought, instead of 'Straight Pride' parade, how about this: The 'desperately trying to bury our own gay thoughts by being homophobic because no one taught us how to access our emotions as children' parade? Whatta ya think? Too on the nose??" Evans tweeted to 12.2 million followers.
He added, "Wow, the number gay/straight pride parade false equivalencies are disappointing. ... Instead of going immediately to anger (which is actually just fear of what you don't understand) take a moment to search for empathy and growth."

Les Carpenter said...

Don talked about it on his show yesterday evening. Essentially he understands Trump to mean we would return to the moon on the way to Mars. Don knows that Trump certainly knows our moon is not part of Mars.

Shaw Kenawe said...

RN, what a shame it is that we need a CNN commentator to explain what the president meant. If Trump hadn't incessantly bragged about how superior his verbal and mental skills were, I'd have let it go, but he deserves the ridicule, as all braggarts do when they boast about being better than anyone else.

Les Carpenter said...

Well, a case could be made that Donald tosses superior word salads. I think.

No, Rusty, not amateur at all. It's well-known that many men who constantly denigrate the LGBT community are conflicted in their feelings toward gays. They're often attracted but fearful of what that attraction means. There are many example out there of men who rage against gays and lesbians who are themselves closet gays, or self-hating of their natural selves. When a man constantly mocks and insults gays and lesbians, I'm always suspicious of where that emotion comes from.
