Anti-Black History Parents/Americans:

UPDATE:

h/t to Possumlady:

A public school in Indiana is giving parents the option to opt their children out of learning about Black History during Black History Month.

Why? What are they afraid of? Knowledge? Can a parent chose to opt their children out of learning about the history of the Civil War? The story of the first Thanksgiving? Manifest Destiny? The Ronald Reagan Presidency?

Where does it end? And why are Trumpublican parents afraid of teaching their children American history?

"Learning about great Black people in history will clearly make their kids feel uncomfortable. Better to limit their knowledge of Black folks to whatever Fox News and Rogan say about them, just to be safe." --Joy-Ann Reid

Do they give Black students the chance to opt out of White history, because that would give those students the whole year off.

Everything old is new again:

By James C. McKinley Jr. and Sam Dillon
Sept. 3, 2009

HOUSTON — President Obama’s plan to deliver a speech to public school students on Tuesday has set off a revolt among conservative parents, who have accused the president of trying to indoctrinate their children with socialist ideas and are asking school officials to excuse the children from listening.

The uproar over the speech, in which Mr. Obama intends to urge students to work hard and stay in school, has been particularly acute in Texas, where several major school districts, under pressure from parents, have laid plans to let children opt out of lending the president an ear.

Let's see -- White parents asking to have their kids opt out of Black History month classes AND listening to a speech by America's first bi-racial POTUS.

There's something here that's a common thread in Conservative parents' fear of these two things.

I wonder what it is?

Anyone?

Apparently ignorance is bliss in the eyes of many conservatives (and some liberals/progressives). You have a regular tRumpublican visitor that personifies this almost on a post by post basis. There is no possible way that those conditioned by societal pressures to believe blacks are inferior to whites will ever accept the reality it is completely untrue, destructive, and morally and ethically wrong. Unfortunately racism may never be erased from society. Here or elsewhere.

Yeah! Fid YOU ever think that this Racial Crap that is being taught in schools today is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY?
But taught so that the White kids need to be taught yo feel guilty for being White, and Smarter!

"Anonymous" @10;49 AM,

Did you type your comment with your toes and your 3rd grade grammar skills?

I'm wondering if Lisa's WYD blog is offline, since a number of her escapees are showing up in "comment moderation," and seem to be suffering from brain seizures brought on by their inability to post their puerile twaddle on the WYD blog.

See "Anonymous" @1049:AM for example.

Apparently their ignorance is their bliss.

They can oppose whatever they want. What are they going to do about it? They can take their kids out of school and risk their kids not moving on within the school program. They can send their kids to a private school which refuses to teach the true facts of our history, thus being uneducated. They can home school with their own biases as the base of their education, thus, again being uneducated. These people are stupid. There is no sense in having stupid children by hiding the truth from them. Their expectation in business and life is stunted. They will be in for a few shocks when they learn the truth when they are in their 30's.

Face it the Schools today are WORTHLESS, they may be OK for learning how to Curse, but that’s about it.

That's a generalization.

My granddaughter went to New York public schools and has been accepted to 6 colleges, (and waiting to hear from 4 others). Three of the schools she applied to have offered her scholarship money and honors entrance. She was inducted into the National Honor Society last spring, and in her senior year is taking AP courses as well as being enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program.

And she's not an exception.

But thanks for giving me the opportunity to do some grandmotherly bragging.

Has WYD closed up shop? If so a good thing. Less pollution running through the political sewer.

You may be correct. I just checked on the blog and WYD hasn't posted anything new since December. That may explain why Lisa's trolls are so restless. No venue for them to post their rants.

Ms. Shaw, The experience of your granddaughter is a reflection of her abilities and desire and not of the academic system. She should be congratulated. The NEA/AFT/ etc have made education non competitive and teaching a good place to retire on the job.
Like any occupation there are good and bad teachers and like any union job they are difficult to get rid of for not doing their job.

skidmark, getting rid of union workers does require proving, by the documentation a good supervisor keeps, and proper application of the company's progressive discipline policy, relief by removal. Of course if a supervisor is to lazy, incompetent, or just does not care then the problem rest within MANAGEWMENT. It usually does when an underperforming employee is reinstated after firing.

And to education? Well I know I figure you'd be okay with any education as long as it offered ONLY what you approve of.

skud, the academic system in New York provided her with the opportunity to excel.

It provided her with the opportunity to enroll in the AP and International Baccalaureate programs. It provided her with teachers who guided her along her path to excellence. So it's a combination of her hard work and the opportunities offered to her by the New York public school system.

To paint the entire US public school system as terrible as some people do is an injustice.

PS. My granddaughter did volunteer work with kids, worked summers and ski raced for her school all through middle school and high school, and is representing her h.s. in the New York state ski race competition.

Just like everything else, there are good public schools and bad public schools. Good private schools and bad private schools. The former CEO of the non profit I worked for could certainly have sent his two sons to private schools but felt so strongly about public education, they were sent to public grade and high schools. They both an got excellent education, had incredibly diverse classmates both from higher and lower economic families and both went to different state universities. They have both graduated with honors and one is now getting his MBA while the other is a Vice President of a marketing firm.

Also, where I worked, which was an at-will non profit employer, with the threat of lawsuits, terminating someone's employment took FOREVER! There was one employee that had been reprimanded SO many times over a good 15 years but they never fired her. She finally retired and everyone was happy! I can't help but think if we were unionized she would have been gone long before--as there was a long well documented paper trail of disciplinary actions taken against her.

Ms. Shaw, Like I said your Granddaughter should be congratulated. When 88% (us news) graduate from high school. That means we are failing 12% of students or the same percent who qualified for obamacare. Mass had 93% which is high and the same as Texas. Out of all those graduates how many could perform at 12th grade level?

PL, I am not anti union in most cases but when a union held hostage children from learning they are not providing service to anyone. I am sure there are cases where people were kept on but unions have a history of protecting their members when they shouldn't. Everyone can site one person as an example but as a whole unions make it to easy to not perform. Ask an automaker.

I had relatives tell me she was. I never knew that part of her. Only what she was like at the end.

Did you see the latest? https://www.indystar.com/story/news/education/2022/02/17/sprunica-elementary-school-black-history-month-brown-county-schools/6834262001/

And, Skud, if you say "Everyone can site one person as an example" (regarding a non union workplace taking a whole lot of time to let someone go), that's a whole lot of examples! You then say "as a whole unions make it easy not to perform". That's an easy statement to say but I'd like to see some back up statistics.

Re "ignorance is bliss"...

Ignorance of the reality of lies and deceptions (=most mainstream news and establishment decrees) is bliss because exposing yourself to that is self-propagandization.

Ignorance of truths (especially if they’re upsetting) is not, or only temporarily or rarely, bliss because it is ultimately self-defeating.

The FALSE mantra of "ignorance is bliss", promoted in the latter sense, is a product of a fake sick culture that has indoctrinated its "dumbed down" (therefore TRULY ignorant, therefore easy to control) people with many such manipulative slogans. You can find the proof that ignorance is never bliss (only superficial fake bliss), and how you get to buy into this lie (and other self-defeating lies), in the article “The 2 Married Pink Elephants In The Historical Room –The Holocaustal Covid-19 Coronavirus Madness: A Sociological Perspective & Historical Assessment Of The Covid “Phenomenon”” .... https://www.rolf-hefti.com/covid-19-coronavirus.html

"Blissful" believers in "ignorance is bliss" -- blissfully stupid people -- are nearly always self-destructive indifferent immoral ignoramuses and/or members of herd stupidity... speaking of which, with the letters of "omicron" an alleged Covid variant you can spell "moronic"

And further speaking of stupid herd people not getting the glaringly obvious truth/ie not getting the constant onslaught of BIG lies of the official authorities......
