General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

Via Democratic Underground:

Today we heard the devastating news of Irma Garcia’s husband dying of a heart attack. A horrific reminder that the murders continue long after the bullets stop.

Jeremy Richman-died by suicide 7 years after his daughter Amelie was murdered at Sandy Hook.

Austin Eubanks, survived Columbine. Spiraled into addiction within 1 year of surviving that Massacre. He got clean, became a motivational speaker. He died of a heroin overdose in 2019.

Sydney Arielle- survived Parkland. Died by suicide in 2019

Calvin Desir- also survived Parkland. Died by suicide in 2019.

Last year Texas Governor Abbott signed seven — SEVEN — laws to expand gun rights in the state.

Surrounded by National Rifle Association representatives at the time, he declared that “Texas will always be the leader in defending the Second Amendment, which is why we built a barrier around gun rights this session.”

This is after he promised to “take action to step up to make sure this tragedy is never repeated ever again in the history of the state of Texas” during a news conference following the 2018 shooting at Sante Fe High School in Texas that left 10 children dead.

These words have obviously fallen short. What’s more, the state experienced a handful of other mass shootings — in El Paso and Midland-Odessa in 2019 — but still moved forward with loosening its gun restrictions by approving measures like open carry without a permit.

Texas Police Lieutenant Says Cops Were Reluctant to Engage Gunman Because ‘They Could’ve Been Shot’

Shaw Kenawe said...

"As details emerge about the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, police officers are facing backlash for what appears to be a slow response to reports of an active shooter on campus.

Reports state that police took up to an hour to stop the alleged shooter, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, by which time 19 children and two teachers were already killed.

This was after a 911 call had been made by Ramos' grandmother after she was allegedly shot by Ramos at home, before he left for the school.

Shortly after that, another call was later made by someone who saw a crashed vehicle near the school and a person with a rifle going into the school.

While the police went to the scene soon after, it took them a while to go into the school. It was later revealed that some police officers went into the school to save their children first.

A Uvalde police officer said some cops saved their own children from Robb Elementary School before the shooter was stopped."

"A police officer admitted that the police went inside the school to save their children first rather than stop the shooter.

The officer said, “There [were] some police officers' families trying to get their kids out of school because it was an active shooter situation.”

The officer continued to talk about the situation while trying to justify the officers that went in to save their children initially.

He said, “It’s a terrible situation right now and just as we mentioned the loss of life. It’s a terrible, terrible tragedy that took place.”

Parents begged police officers to enter Robb Elementary School to stop the shooter.
As the news of the shooting reached the parents, many rushed to the school and reportedly found police gathered outside, waiting to organize a tactical team.

Witnesses claim officers gave conflicting explanations about needing help unlocking a door even though the shooter had already entered.

Video shows devastated parents pleading with officers to enter the school as the cries and screams of the children could be heard inside."

It's this level of ignorance, greed, and indifference that made me leave my beloved home state forever. Sadly, when I moved to Florida it was a true toss up. now, however, other than the deep blue South Florida and a few other spots such as Orlando, the regressive party has taken over and so gerrymandered the state so getting them out is damn near impossible. And now I'm too old and far too sick to even consider moving again. Luckily, my area is totally blue. We only have one republiscumbag in our entire county and hopefully we'll get rid of him soon enough.

Here's a list of the most dangerous states for firearm violence.

The worst are the red states (with exceptions-Nebraska and Iowa)

The safest are the blue states

The red states have THE MOST firearms in circulation.

The absolute most moronic things I've heard out of the mouths of Trumpanzee Rethuglicans is that we should arm teachers. Arm teachers??? And post armed guards at every school? Only one entrance allowed in every school?

The Trumpanzee Rethuglicans are describing a prison. In order to keep our children safe in what should already BE a safe environment, the Trumpanzee pols and idiots want us to make schools into fortresses.

NO!

Tell the asshole Rethuglican governor of Texass! to shove his laws making guns easier to have, even for mentally ill boys!, tell Abbott to shove his laws up his Trumpian arsehole. Good and hard!

Sorry, Shaw for the hard language. But being polite and hoping people do the right thing has not worked. Just ask the grieving families of thos 19 children and 2 teachers.

We're the dumbest country on the planet and everyone knows it!

I'm surprised this has not happened more often. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child, or a wife in this manner. The pain is physical and could easily cause heart failure.

Only getting rid of every gun in America and making guns illegal can stop the carnage; but that cannot happen according to our constitution and the recent Heller decision by our Supreme Court.
Strong gun regulation is PART of the solution but will never end gun murders totally. There is no total solution, but we can cut the number of gun deaths.
One might think common sense alone might be the point of agreement, but politics no longer include common sense.

Conservatives for years have trumpeted the Godly righteousness of the European settlers of America, even as they massacred thousands if not millions of Native Americans.

Conservatives for years defended slavery as God's plan and necessary for the economic well being of America.

Conservatives fought for years against women getting the right to vote, people of color getting the right to vote, equal rights for women, the right of someone to marry the person of his or her choice and the right of a woman to purchase contraceptives and birth control.

Religious conservatives have covered up hundreds, if not thousands of sexual assaults of women and children by clergy, leaders and members of churches. And then lied about it. Additionally, leading pastors have stated publicly that God wants women to stay in abusive relationships and forgive spouses who have abused their kids.

Conservatives continue to fight against any investigation of Jan 6 and the events of that day.

And conservatives refuse to consider any curtailment of deadly arms in a civil society, refusing even simple registration and training before purchase of a gun.

These are conservatives who over the years America has existed, cross party lines, both Dems, members of the GOP and other political groups. So it is not a historical party issue, it is a cultural problem, rightly assigned to a specific subset of Americans.

The question this begs is the following...

Why would anyone vote for a conservative?

Why would anyone vote for a conservative.

Attachment, reification of beliefs, fear, societal conditioning, ignorance, upbringing... to name a few.

It is far important to assign blame that work toward a solution. If history is any indicator nothing will come of this because it would take working together to find a solution and that is just not acceptable.

Rev, You equate republicans with conservatives which is not true. That is like saying all democrats are liberal and all liberals are democrats. As a fiscal conservative I find both parties far to liberal and not interested in finding a solution to anything.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend and I want to thank all Veterans for providing us the ability to disagree and keep America safe, yes even you blueballs.

No Skud, I did not equate conservatives with Republicans anywhere in my post. I wrote very carefully, so as not to do that.

You inferred that from my comment. Why I wonder?

Here's my final paragraph...

"These are conservatives who over the years America has existed, cross party lines, both Dems, members of the GOP and other political groups. So it is not a historical party issue, it is a cultural problem, rightly assigned to a specific subset of Americans."

I was very cognizant of the reality that in our history, conservatives have belonged to many different parties, not just the GOP.

I don't know why you'd read that comment any other way.

skudrunner said...

Sorry Rev but you are correct. After reading what you posted again you were referring to the jim crowe democrats in the first part of you post. In the latter you do refer to conservatives as republicans because it is not conservatives who believe "And conservatives refuse to consider any curtailment of deadly arms in a civil society, refusing even simple registration and training before purchase of a gun" it is republicans.

Dave Miller said...

Again Skud, you stated...

" In the latter you [Rev] do refer to conservatives as republicans..."

And again Skud, you are wrong. Nowhere do I identify conservatives as connected specifically to any party. You are assuming something to which there is no evidence.
