Never before in history has any former President of the United States been referred to Department of Justice for prosecution for criminal behavior.
Not Andrew Johnson, not Richard Nixon.
And never before in my life or yours did we ever hear of a POTUS mouthing these traitorous words:
Meadows: "You heard [Trump]. He doesn't want to do anything. He thinks Pence deserves it."
How does any American read that first person account statement from Trump's Chief of Staff, --a man who was the closest to Trump during the attack on the U.S. government, -- how does anyone read that and not feel revulsion?
The Trump cultists and those who believe we've spent too much time on "the clown," and that we should move on, are the ones, IMO, who have weakened our form of democratic government by not calling for Trump to be held accountable for his crimes.
"Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen." -- DJT
Trump's cultists want America to forget what he did and just move on as though it never happened.
The party that was once the party of "law and order" is now the party of lawlessness and mayhem, all in service to a Liar, a Cheat, a Fraud, and now a man who's been criminally charged with "aiding and comforting" insurrectionists who wanted to "Hang Mike Pence," and stop the certification of the electoral vote.
How does a country of laws, not men, move on from that?

You are absolutely right Shaw. Its the 48% of Americans that do NOT believe Trump should be prosecuted and face accountability for his insurrectionist activity that constitute the greatest threat to our democracy/democratic republic. It is the otherwise good people who for whatever reason choose to support doing nothing in response to Trump's treason that set the stage for the next lunatic like Trump (if there is a next one) to try it again. No accountability this time makes it more likely it WILL happen again.
Thomas Paine, in "Common Sense" stated that in America, as opposed to monarchies, "the law is king."
And that is where we are. Many conservative SCOTUS judges essentially have argued, and I paraphrase, that "if you do not like the law, you can change the law, but the law is the law."
The US has been the apple of other countries eyes for centuries because of our adherence to both of those statements. Until President Trump.
We can't move on, nor will we be able to, until America reckons with January 6th. There's a significant group of ppl here that must explain, if they wish to continue to claim they are right, correct and truthful, why they supported the insurrection. Where is the proof, the evidence, of their charges that are at the heart of this ongoing challenge to the rule of law? If there was election fraud at the level they've alleged, it should be easy to find.
As Brad Raffensperger, Sec State of GA said, "Mr. President, the challenge that you have is the data you have is wrong." And that is the problem the MAGA crowd has... their data, their facts, their ideas, their beliefs on the 2020 election are wrong.
The insurrection was based on a lie and while thousands of ppl rioted on federal land and federal officers were repeatedly assaulted and beaten, the president did nothing.
For three hours. Nothing.
He did nothing as his aides told him he was wrong and begged him to put out a statement calling for peace and saying violence is wrong. And what did he do? He called for people to attack the Vice President.
So for the people calling for us to move on, I ask how?
Because in America, either the law is, as Paine believed, king, or the king is the law. It can't be both.
tRUMP knew what he was doing. Trump cultists don't have a clue.
We rebelled against the rule of personality and won our freedom from tyranny. And now the MAGA'ts are essentially asking for a return to the rule of personality and whims.
A tremendous backslide if ever there was one. And we wait...
The GOP cannot refute the J6 Committee with any measure of truth or proof. Undermining credibility as opposed to presenting an actual defense against the accusations is the only bastion of defense Trump has... which is to say.... he has no defense.
Trump's been owned. 100%. Through and through. And all the sad Orange Man can do is undermine. That's not a legal defense. It's nothing. It's a bully who's been caught. It's less than nothing. The GOP is a truly wanting and lacking political body. Barely in existence at this point.
Trumpty will not ever be put back together again. He’s a broken crook.
Obstruction of an official proceeding (18 U.S.C. § 1512(c)):
Conspiracy to defraud the United States (18 U.S.C. § 371):
Conspiracy to make a false statement (18 U.S.C. §§ 371, 1001):
“Incite,” “assist” or provide “aid and comfort” an insurrection (18 U.S.C. § 2383):
We can add one more to the classic Doonesbury line, "Guilty, Guilty, Guilty, Guilty!"
