Mistakenly remembered meeting with Kim Jong Un, the tyrant of North Korea.
Who among us has not mistakenly remembered meeting with the murderous dictator of North Korea and then realized we made the whole thing up?
Hasn’t this happened to all of us at one time or another?
In No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward, Noem wrote that she met the North Korean leader while she was in Congress as South Dakota’s representative, according to news outlets which obtained a copy of the book ahead of its publication on May 7. The Dakota Scout reported the news on May 2, which was then picked up by other outlets.
“I had the chance to travel to many countries to meet with world leaders—some who wanted our help, and some who didn’t,” the New York Times quoted Noem as writing. “I remember when I met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. I’m sure he underestimated me, having no clue about my experience staring down little tyrants (I’d been a children’s pastor, after all). Dealing with foreign leaders takes resolve, preparation, and determination.”
After doubt was cast upon this account, Noem and her spokesperson Ian Fury told news outlets the statement shouldn’t have been in the book and would be corrected ahead of publication.
In an interview with CBS News’ Face the Nation that aired on May 5, journalist Margaret Brennan asked Noem: “Did you meet Kim Jong Un?”
“Well you know, as soon as this was brought to my attention, I certainly made some changes and looked at this passage, and I’ve met with many, many world leaders, I’ve traveled around the world,” Noem responded. “As soon as it was brought to my attention, we went forward and have made some edits. So I'm glad that this book is being released in a couple of days, and that those edits will be in place, and that people will have the updated version.”
Brennan then asked: “So you did not meet with Kim Jong Un? That's what you're saying.”
“No, I’ve met with many, many world leaders,” Noem said. “...I’m not going to talk about my specific meetings with world leaders, I’m just not going to do that. This anecdote shouldn’t have been in the book and as soon as it was brought to my attention, I made sure that was adjusted.”
Fury previously told the Dakota Scout that the book’s publisher would be “addressing conflated world leaders’ names in the book.” Fury was also quoted telling other news outlets that the North Korean leader was mentioned in error.

"Conflated world leaders' names"? So now she's claiming she met some other leader and confused him with Kim? Maybe it was Xi Jinping or a Japanese prime minister? I'm sure those people over there all look alike to the average wingnut.
Or, calling it what it is, a mental fabrication that when caught the fabricator simply fabricated a generic fabriction. Knowing the MAGAverse will simply ignore truth to believe illusion/delusion as it always does.
Infidel753, Les,
She said in her CNN interview that when this passage was “called to her attention” she ordered it corrected.
She narrated the audio book! Not an editor or ghostwriter, she spoke the words.
She means she’s correcting it cause she got called out for lying.
"(I’d been a children’s pastor, after all)"
I wonder how many kids wound up in therapy because of her?
At least she did not to claim to meet with dead people, finish in the top of her law class and have an uncle eaten by cannibals after his plane crashed in the ocean. She is young and should have not made that statement but after all she is a politician and should not be held to her word. If we held politicians to their word the democrats would have a different candidate and we wouldn't have to decide who to vote for.
Joe Biden used to drive a Semi... after he kicked Corn Pop's *ss, of course!
lol!
Let's add that she also released the book in audio form, which she herself read. How can she say "when it was brought to my attention"?
She read it, she knew she put a BS passage in the book and she hoped she would not get caught.
Here's the larger question in all of this regarding her book...
Why did she feel that her story about killing the dog and the goat, as well as her lies about meeting the leader of North Korea would appeal to her followers? WHy did she feel that lying and animal killing would enhance her stature in the MAGA VP sweepstakes?
Skud... call me crazy, but I'm a little less worried about when politicos say something wrong, or as you see it, even lie, verbally. Because then they can say it was a mistake, I misspoke, misremembered, whatever.
But this was written. And she read it aloud in the audio book. She knew it was untrue when she submitted it, she knew it was untrue when she proofread it, she knew it was untrue when she hit publish on the audio book.
She knew she was wrong, and she didn't care.
At least the others, yes, among the most practiced of the art lying, have some shame, Trump excluded. She's a perfect choice for his VP, and I'm sure the evangelical right will have no trouble loving her too.
Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream.
"They need the superiority of a leader's instinct over abstract and universal reason" according to R.O. Paxton's 'The Anatomy of Fascism'. Just another quasi-Nazi IMO.
I saw her on Margaret Brennans show. She won't stop talking. She just talks over anyone who tries to pin her down with a stream of BS.
Mike... here's Noem's response when she was pushed on FOX News, which has now thrown her to the wolves.
Peppered with questions about the dog story by reporter Stuart Varney, she said “Enough, Stuart,” then added “This interview is ridiculous — what you are doing right now. So you need to stop.”
Like GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle before her, like VP candidate Sarah Palin, the not ready for prime time Noem just unraveled, complaining that she wanted to talk about what she wanted to talk about!
But that's not how journalism works, especially in politics.
Such a loser.
