They grew up in the same town in Massachusetts and have been friends ever since. She never misses a show when he and his band are on the west coast.
He and his band just played at the Hollywood Bowl last night.

BINGO! Dave! They went to high school together and have remained good friends for all these years.
I know at least one of them was a fellow Deadhead back in the day. I was a fan in high school back when they were about five years old. Still Truckin. ;-)
They have a fanatical following. Sorta like Deadheads. The New Yorker magazine ran a long piece about the band this month.
A lot of the younger Deadheads drifted over to following Phish after Jerry died.
They're an excellent band and I've seen them a few times, once with Santana joining them for a Miles Davis jam.
I'm old school and still listen to my favorite periods of the Dead from '72>'74 and '88>'90. But these days I'm mostly listening to jazz and classical as I enjoy a good book and a couple wee drams of single malt scotch, like an old white guy. ;-)
My significant other and I are right there with you. Although he grew up in London during the height of the Carnaby Street scene, Beatles, Stones, etc., then came to Cambridge, Mass., and Harvard. He was really into the Motown sound then, as it was very popular in England as well.
A mellow evening for us is sipping some peaty single- malt scotch and listening to oldies but goodies, classical music, , Ella, and some BB King.

In 1979 I saw Ella with Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen at Carnegie Hall.
The following year I was thrilled to shake the very large hand of BB King.
And I'm quite at home in my comfort zone with a 10 year-old, heavily peated Port Charlotte. I'm particularly fond of Islay and other island spirits.
Lucky you, to see Ella in person. I've always loved her. I remember the first money I made at a real job as a teen I spent on her album with Duke Ellington. "Ella at Duke's Place."
I didn't have a clue and neither did my son. Then my son saw the first comment from Dave and went AH HA!
