So... no doubt it's bad. But some would argue "at least" it's out in the open so people can see it, as opposed to so many past back room deals.
Distinctions without much difference, some will say in their misguided whataboutisms.
I know others will show up here and bring "joey" and the "swell guy" claiming that whataboutism, but of course, as it always is, they will do so without any direct knowledge. Just the secret knowledge and facts they themselves have and know to be true.
So it is your contention that there is political corruption and it is just trump who took money. According to the American Prospect “Intuit has spent nearly $4 million in 2023 and again in 2024 attempting to kill the program. "Yet after tens of millions in lobbying, hundreds of millions in lawsuits, and a cool million for Trump’s inauguration, it seems that Intuit’s ceaseless spending has paid off."
This just proves we have the best politicians money can buy.
Obama tried to reduce the ability of lobbyists to buy politicians but he failed when he was opposed by the politicians who were made millionaires by the lobbyists. This again points to our overly complicated tax code that rewards the rich who have a slew of accountants to work the system and screws the middle class who must try to understand and file their own taxes. I know the opinion of this audience on the Fair Tax but that way Everyone would pay their Fair Share on a simplified tax system.
Well, when a party and its leaders have nothing other than hypocrisy and corruption reflected in results they do what liars and crooks do, they project. Trump and his party are accomplished projectors. And MAGAts swallow it hook, line and sinker.
It appears that Trump is rightfully focusing harder on China. This is not going to end well for China if Trump rallies their neighbors to Americas side. He bumped it up to 125% which I think is too little. I'd go at least 200% considering the depths and length of duration of Chinas abuses which WTO ignored. 100k Dead each year in America alone would justify 200%
He needs to, and he will get Japan, S Korea and other wealthier, democratic, capitalist nations to invest in America. Create jobs in exchange for more open markets and I would argue easier immigration.
Hell I’ll even go further and have the government fund programs to learn Japanese, Korean etc and have those nations do the same with English. If you can communicate, you can build bridges and economic integration.
The war against America and the West has been on and off for over 30 years, Trump is taking it on when others have failed. I’ll stick with Trump, as he knows the Art of the Deal much better than anyone else that I can think of.
Funny how you were unconcerned about this you all were when Democrats did it. I never saw you once post complaining of it. Obama was the epitome of "The Chicago Way". It's where he cut his teeth, so to speak. But now your "outraged" to find Republicans doing it. Corruption is the very soul of politics. Why do bank robbers rob banks? It's where the money is. Why do people become politicians (all those Washington-minted millionaires). It's where YOUR money is. It's one of the reasons that I hate the Lindsey Grahams, Hillary Clintons, and John McCains, using their jobs to get kickbacks.... to their 'legal' "foundations", of course, or like Biden and Pelosi, family members.
...and creating new rice bowls. What's the ancient Greek saying about politics? "Damage your enemies and reward your friends". It's the game, the whole game, and nothing but the game of politics.
This should be treated as a far bigger issue than it has been. Bribery is one of only two specific crimes actually named in the Constitution as grounds for impeachment (the other is treason).
-FJ, then give us evidence of former President Obama's "pay to play." Why wasn't he investigated for it? It is a crime. Trump had 4 years to investigate and indict Obama for "Pay to Play. He did not. Why?
Trump has all three branches of government under his corrupt fat thumb. Why hasn't he instructed his Consigliere, Pam, to open an investigation into former President Obama on his Pay-to-Play, after all, that is a crime!
There will be no impeachment articles brought in the House, since Trump has a lock on all 3 branches of government. We have to wait until the mid-terms. If he continues his trajectory, his numbers will be further underwater by then, and maybe the Democrats, if they don't bungle it, will win seats in the House. I don't believe they have a chance for the Senate.
Remember Obama's home in Chicago, and how he "acquired" the lot next door? He doled out political favours to real-estate donors. He and Michelle made his living in Chicago before then doling out "Foundation" grant money on boards that the weatherman friends/ Dohrns and Ayers got them onto. Tom Ayers (Bill's dad) had a lot of influence in Chicago and at Northwestern. And who "presented" Barack to Chicago's wealthy donors? Bill Ayers. The Chicago Way...
Do people "investigate" the fact that all pigs like to eat from troughs? How many investigations would it take to affirm the fact that it's a "universal" feeding preference?
A: A political patron from whom he bought a strip of land is under federal indictment, but there’s no evidence Obama did anything improper.
FULL QUESTION
Was Obama’s real estate deal in Illinois really an issue?
FULL ANSWER
Here’s what happened: In 2005, Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, bid $1.65 million for a house on the south side of Chicago. According to newspaper reports, the owner was also trying to sell an undeveloped parcel of land adjacent to the property Obama was buying, and he wanted the sales of the two to close on the same day. Obama has said that he mentioned he was buying the house to a longtime political patron, Antoin (Tony) Rezko, a developer. Rezko’s wife wound up buying the lot adjacent to Obama’s. At the request of the Obamas, who were seeking a bit more space for their yard, she later sold them a 10-foot wide strip, or about one-sixth, of her land. The Obamas paid $104,500 for it, or about one-sixth of what Mrs. Rezko had paid for the entire property.
Obama doesn’t appear to have reaped any financial advantages from the transactions. The reason the deal has received a good bit of attention is that Tony Rezko – whose political contributions to Illinois’ former governor, Obama and others totaled in the hundreds of thousands of dollars – was known to be under federal investigation at the time the Obamas were purchasing their home. In 2006, Rezko was indicted in three federal cases: Two involved fraud schemes in which he allegedly demanded payments from firms wanting work from the enormous Illinois teachers’ pension fund and from those wanting favorable rulings from a state board that regulates the building of new hospital facilities. In the third, he was charged with fraudulently obtaining more than $10 million in loans for a pizza restaurant business; in December 2007, prosecutors added more fraud counts to that indictment.
Obama has a relationship with Rezko that dates back many years, but there’s no indication Obama did anything improper. Shortly after finishing law school, Obama, who had turned down a job offer from the developer, went to work at a law firm where he represented some community groups that partnered with Rezko to apply for housing rehabilitation loans. As a state legislator, he wrote letters to city and state officials in support of Rezko’s efforts to build apartments for the elderly with government money; the senator asserts that this was a project the community wanted. Obama got together with Rezko a couple of times a year, he has said.
Obama has donated campaign contributions from Rezko and his associates to charity, and he said in 2006, when the real estate transaction was reported by the press, that he made a “boneheaded” mistake by participating in the deal when it was known that Rezko was being investigated. “I regret it,” Obama said. “I’m going to make sure from this point on I don’t even come close to the line.”
-FJ, as is usual with you, you are flooding my Comment Moderation with your "whataboutism" on the Obamas. The Obamas have been investigated for years and NOTHING ILLEGAL has been found for anything they've done.
This post is about Trump. Remember! NOT the Obamas who have never been indicted for any crime. Ever.
Trump, OTOH, is a convicted felon, adjudicated SA, liar, cheat, and fraud.
With that background and lifelong behavior of being a crook, it is more likely that Trump is also a corrupt president. After all, he'd only be continuing his lifelong behaviors -- lying, cheating, and being a fraud.
China will, probably within the next quarter century, replace America as the world's economic superpower. Tump's shortsighted and ignorant tariff policy (if you can call it that) as well as pthers will only accelerate the flow of power eastward. He has insulted and and alienated allies, and he cozys up to tyrants. Our grandchildren are going to e better off than we have been. Unless your family is one of the oligarchs families.
Anyway, corruption. Yep, it's happening right in front of our faces, reported on by Fox as if it's some brilliant strategy (it's not), and signed off on by the Speaker of the House and the FOTUS's pet Senate and Supreme Court.
Spiffy.
Shaw is correct. There will be no accountability unless Constitution loving citizens turn out at the midterms and vote anyone other than the MAGA zealots into office. Dog Catcher to Senator, no exceptions. Until/when WeThePeople have a chance I'm only thinking day to day. Sometimes minute to minute, but I'm still here so there is that.
Speaking of accountability, the FOTUS claims he is working out a deal with China. Per the spokesperson for China's Commerce Ministry "China's position is consistent and we are open to consultations and dialogue but any form of consultations and negotiations must be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and in an equal manner. Any claims about the progress of China US trade negotiations are groundless as trying to catch the wind and have no factual basis."
So, no trade deal with our biggest customer (how big was that order for pigs? 14 million? Just canceled. And shipping crate numbers have crashed... it's all out there and the numbers are not good) unless the FOTUS inked the deal last night into this morning? No?
So, if the FOTUS is lying about these things to our faces (check the webz, he says he's made 200 deals in his first 100 days) what else is he lying about (I know, I know a metric ton of stuff but the question still bears asking).
I have a question or two: Does anyone else remember WHY Trump was denied his military parade the first time? Do the words weight restrictions ring any bells? Does anyone else thing this is going to be a spectacular parade but not in the way the FOTUS admin thinks it will play out?

Ah, the "Chicago Way" of "Pay to Play". It should look familiar to you.

When there is no defense for the indefensible, try "whataboutism." LOL!
See -FJ. So predictable.
Don't forget that Trump didn't write "Art of the Deal." He dictated it to a real writer.

Oh, what about this disgusting grift:
Trump's meme coin dinner contest earns insiders $900,000 in two days
The coin’s value jumped more than 50% after its website said Trump would have dinner with the top 200 holders.
