"WASHINGTON, Jan 15 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to use the Insurrection Act, which would allow him to deploy military forces, in Minnesota amid escalating tension over a deployment of federal agents in the state's most populous city, which has become the focus of daily clashes.
"If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post."
"This is an impossible situation that our city is presently being put in, and at the same time, we are trying to find a way forward to keep people safe, to protect our neighbors, to maintain order," he said.
"Frey described a federal force that is five times as big as the city's 600-officer police force and has "invaded" the city, scaring and angering residents, some of whom want the officers to "fight ICE agents." At the same time, the police force is still responsible for its day-to-day work to keep the public safe.
The Department of Homeland Security says it has made more than 2,000 arrests in the state since early December and is vowing to not back down."

Mayor Frey has been pleading to protestors, "Don't take the bait".
Protesting is appropriate and protected speech, but interfering with armed thugs only invites harsher measures. It would be wise of peaceful protestors to make an effort to shun or actively discourage confrontations.
It's difficult to restrain oneself when in highly emotional situations, but cool heads are better than reckless actions.
I hope more of them listen to their mayor.

In the early 2000's, a rump group of extremist GOP state legislators there proposed a law to ramp up criminal penalties and fines for people and businesses found to be employing "illegal aliens".
It all sounded like good public policy if you really wanted to end illegal immigrants working in your state. Make the penalties so onerous, no one would dare hire someone without papers.
As the measure was working its way through the GOP dominated Texas state legislature, it hit a snag. It was alright for businesses to be penalized they said, but the measure would also negatively impact average people living in Texas. So the GOP decided to make sure good, God fearing Texans could continue to hire illegal workers for day jobs, cleaning and gardening with no penalties whatsoever. Because a group of GOP legislators said the truth... stopping work in Texas by illegal workers would kill their economy.
Maybe that's part of the "why" are there no ICE raids in Texas, or even Florida for that matter.

Yesterday a family drove in a Walmart parking lot and their one year old was taken to a local hospital for treatment after ICE tear gassed the place. After the incident became public, DHS tweeted about the "irresponsible" family and how bad they were for bringing their child into such a dangerous situation.
Once the facts came out, DHS took down the tweet, with nary a mention of their mistake or an apology to the family they slimed and injured.
