Can someone explain how the U.S. can bomb a sovereign country and kidnap its president, then announce to the world that the U.S. will now "run" the country?
We know Maduro is a bad guy, but so is Putin; so is Kim Jong Un, so is the Supreme Leader of Iran.
Will we now announce to the world that America will bomb those countries, kidnap their leaders, and then "run" their countries?
U.S. strikes on Venezuela spark alarm across Latin America and beyond
Other regional powers, including Chile and Mexico, echoed strong condemnation.
Mexico called the strikes a violation of the U.N. Charter and urged an immediate halt to acts of aggression.
In a Fox News interview on Saturday, President Trump said Mexico was run by drug cartels and he said quote "something is gonna have to be done with Mexico."
PS. Trump pardoned the Honduran president who exported 400 tons of cocaine to the U.S. He has pardoned other drug dealers as well.
I don't think his illegal invasion of Venezuela and takeover of that country is about drugs.
Trump has repeatedly claimed without evidence that boats have been carrying drugs into the U.S. from Venezuela. But in fact Venezuela is not a major source of drugs.
Maggie Haberman,White House reporter: “We’re not afraid of boots on the ground if we have to have” them, Trump said. This is the opposite of what his administration has repeatedly said its posture is.
Zolan Kanno-Youngs, White House reporter: As he justifies the military operation in Venezuela, Trump argued that Maduro sent members of Tren de Aragua to the United States to terrorize American communities.
David E. Sanger, White House reporter: Trump’s own intelligence community earlier this year undercut that claim, finding that the gang was not controlled by the Venezuelan government.
“We are going to run the country right,″ Trump said as he turned to oil. “It’s going to make a lot of money.”
Trump said Venezuelan leaders must comply with the United States or else. “All political and military figures must realize that what happened to Maduro can happen to them,” he said.

Trump has essentially declared himself the new dictator of Venezuela. They will NOT accept that. Expect things to get ugly and bloody in that poor country.
Will Hutton: “Venezuela's Maduro is a corrupt, vicious dictator repressing democratic opposition. But the US unilaterally capturing a foreign leader not at war breaches every canon of intl law. Justifies Putin in Ukraine/Xi in Taiwan. Might is right. Who next on what pretext? A dark moment.”
BTW, just a reminder: Big Oil spent $445 million on getting Trump elected last year.
The US attack on Venezuela is looking more and more like the start of Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
We've spent decades trying to build better relations with Latin America after the earlier history of US meddling there. Trump is destroying all that.
It all shows how desperately he wants to distract the US public from the Epstein files.
Wonder what Melania thinks?
Empire building in real time. Initiated an American narcissistic authoritarian presnit without any scruples or ethical foundation.
Two things... One, it's all about the oil, and two, what's he doing now in the US that he doesn't want us to find out about.
I think Al Haig was the last US person to declare themselves in charge of some region in South America. Didn't turn out well for him.
Look, maybe Maduro being gone is a good thing. I don't know enough to judge that. But I will say this...
I am currently in Mexico. Trump's statements about this country, regardless of their accuracy as it relates to the cartels, have all of us rattled.
Venezuela is a cakewalk compared to the destabilization that would occur if Trump ordered any action in the interior of our neighbor to the south, without full buy in from the national government here.
And I have no confidence in the US government, GOP or Dem, to have any real clue about Mexico. So, I'm uneasy as I head to the mountains.
Very surprising that the president who forced himself on women and girls without facing any consequences thinks he can force himself on countries without facing any consequences.
BREAKING: Trump says Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado doesn’t have the “support or respect within the country” to be the leader of Venezuela. Trump is jealous that she won the Nobel Peace Prize and he didn’t.
Genghis Trump and his Horrid Horde
The whining whittle orange munchkin is such a human failure. All people (that is all non worshipping MAGAts) realize what a damaged emotional midget Trump is. Without his constant self praise and boasting the emotional midget would likely shrivel up and die.
Which would not be a bad thing at all.
Agreed!
"Speaking at his Mar-a-Lago private club just hours after Nicolás Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, and his wife were seized from their bedroom by U.S. forces, Mr. Trump told reporters that Delcy Rodríguez, who served as Mr. Maduro’s vice president, would hold power in Venezuela as long as she “does what we want.”
Ms. Rodríguez, however, showed little public interest in doing the Americans’ bidding. In a national address, she accused Washington of invading her country under false pretenses and asserted that Mr. Maduro was still Venezuela’s head of state. “What is being done to Venezuela is a barbarity,” she said."
It'll take awhile for the odorous stain of the Trump administration to be wiped away, but patriots can start by electing representatives with some backbone. When that happens, maybe we can send a dozen or so criminals from this regime to where they belong, prison.
As Dave Miller observed elsewhere* - MVGA/ Make Venezuela Great Again.
https://not-the-left.blogspot.com/#google_vignette the cookie crumbles.
:)
Yeah. Right. This is what you and the MAGA sheep don't want to understand:
Fiona Hill testified SIX YEARS AGO that Trump and Putin were cooking up a scheme along the lines of the Monroe Doctrine, that Donald was obsessed with it, and that they planned to do a swap of Venezuela for Ukraine, with Putin withdrawing support from Venezuela, so Trump could take it, in return for Trump withdrawing US support from Ukraine, so Russia could have it.
Trump Has Started Carving Up the World. Now It’s Putin and Xi’s Turn.
"The U.S. invasion of Venezuela late last Friday shocked the world for many reasons. It represents another fundamental departure from the post-WWII order supported by the United States for the last 50 years. It was also an unprovoked, naked act of aggression based on the flimsiest of pretexts. Congress was not consulted, and the executive branch has far exceeded the 60 days allowed by the 1973 War Powers Act to get congressional approval for ongoing military action.
Far worse than these shattered norms are the horrifying possibilities this action raises. President Donald Trump and the GOP have laid bare their desires for hegemony, colonialism, and empire, and the dangerous global consequences of America pursuing these cannot be understated. Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro was an unpopular kleptocratic dictator, and this article should not be in any way interpreted as a defense of him; but it is a warning of what this invasion means, and what is to come.
Perhaps the most blatant of all the recent acts is Trump’s own declaration that the U.S. will “take control” of Venezuela “for a while” to seize and exploit the oil resources of the country. He will undoubtedly place a right-wing dictator beholden to him in charge of the country, opening the door to yet another avenue for foreign money flowing to him. Similarly, oil companies will compete with one another for access to the seized assets, meaning more money being laundered to Trump, his family, and other supporters in this spoils-of-war system." --TNR
"This act has also sent a chilling message to the world that the United States is beginning the process of carving up the world into spheres of influence run by dictatorships (namely the U.S., Russia, and China). Russia was Venezuela’s benefactor and ally but has been strangely quiet. Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Fiona Hill testified to Congress in 2019 that Russia was “signaling very strongly that they wanted to somehow make some very strange swap agreement between Venezuela and Ukraine.” In other words, the U.S. could have Venezuela if we let Russia have Ukraine. This strongly suggests that the price for letting the U.S. go after Venezuela without any protest was, and will be, Ukraine. It also suggests that Tawain may already be on the table as a bargaining chip with China, in order to secure its acquiescence to further U.S. regional hegemony in the Americas.
IT IS ALWAYS ABOUT THE OIL!
Was that before or after the failed Venezuela/ Richard Branson sponsored "Bay of Piglets" invasion? Cuz Russia invaded Ukraine 4 years ago, not 6.
...and Trump wasn't the president when pro quo matched the quid in that alleged exchange.
A bit off topic so if you don't post this Shaw, I'll understand.
Wise minds have all brought up the likely planner for this mess on our collected plate o' USA: Steve Miller. Dude is crazy wild for world domination per the watercooler chat. I'm sure the fact that he is only 5'4" has nothing to do with it although every source I read brought it up. I know, slamming short humans for being short isn't cool but this short human has a complex about the topic and is over compensating for his (ahem) shortcomings. Lord save us all from an insecure male with a 'make them pay' attitude said every women, everywhere.
Internationally, nation after nation gave the standard diplomatic response required by protocol but off the camera? People around the globe are panicked as they should be. The Project 2025/26 folks are talking about world domination, not just the states. Remember that this year. The Nat-C's have been planning this soiree for decades. Decades. We forget this fact at our own peril.
The consensus amongst the pod cast and blogger crew seems to be if the rules are just made to be broken, then why have they been compliant for so long? A law is only useful if everyone agrees to obey it. Without such social constructs humanity is back to the might makes right era which is filled with death and disease. On a side note regarding the Nat-C's, this is the picture their prophets painted as a precursor for their concept of a deity to return, so at least they are happy. Need a war to kick off the Apocalypse? Send in the CIA as managed by a Nat-C filled with prophesy of the self fulfilling type. Again please save me from such short sighted humans.
Side note: did you know the "situation room" photographed with Trump and his minions during the Venezuela attack was inside the "Mar-a-Lago" war room? Based on previous "secure" locations I'm sure no one overheard anything.
I thought I read that Trump had given control of Venezuela's oil fields to Exxon? Maybe Mobile. I can't remember. What I do remember is the Trump affiliated oligarchs are planning a group trip down to Venezuela. Guess there are some newly opened opportunities for property development.
My heart weeps.
What you address Grey One is an almost universal phenomenon. With relatively few exceptions.
Ignorance. Greed. Desire for control. Duality. Individualism. Blind beliefs. Unwillingness to compromise for the greater good of the whole.
Whether this nation has, or ever will again possess the ability to self correct is, at best, highly doubtful. The division and distrust created by Republicans spurred on by Trump's MAGA scam is likely irreversible. Unless the fog of delusion and illusion is cleared. An unlikely event given what we see on a daily basis.
