PALIN CONTINUES TO MURDER THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, AND GINGRICH IS APPALLED OVER A 1982 REAGAN SPEECH

Gov. Palin was all over the place this week, physically and syntactically. Here are some of her off-the-wall and bizarre remarks.

She's learned nothing since she helped McCain lose the presidential election. And I'm pretty sure she'll continue to learn nothing as she pursues her hilarious dream of becoming the next POTUS.

"We’re borrowing more to spend more ... it defies any sensible economic policy that any of us ever learned through college," Palin tells Hannity."We’re borrowing from China, and we consider that now we own 60 percent of General Motors – or the U.S. government does … But who is the U.S. government becoming more indebted to? It’s China. So that leads you to have to ask who is really going to own our car industry than in America."

And this:

"It’s expanding at such a large degree that if Americans aren’t paying attention, unfortunately our country could evolve into something that we do not even recognize," Palin says.

"Socialism?" Hannity interjects helpfully.

"Well, that is where we are headed," Palin quips. "That is where we have to be blunt enough and candid enough and honest enough with Americans to let them know that if we keep going down these roads… nationalizing many of our services, our projects, our businesses, yes that is where we would head. And that is why Americans have to be paying attention."

What garbled and muddled thinking.

**************************************

Newt Gingrich is appalled that Mr. Obama would reach out to the world:

Gingrich used his speech to again mock Obama’s recent speech in Egypt, saying — to loud applause — that he resented the President’s diplomatic outreach to the rest of the world:
Let me be clear. I am not a citizen of the world! I think the entire concept is intellectual nonsense and stunningly dangerous. There is no world sovereignty. There is no world system of law. There is, in fact, no circumstance under which I would like to be a citizen of North Korea, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Cuba or Russia. I am a citizen of the United States of America, and the rest of this speech is about the United States of America!

In a 1982 speech to the U.N. General Assembly, President Reagan said, "I speak today as both a citizen of the United States and of the world."

***************************************

And Frank Gaffney is seriously nuts:

Frank Gaffney on Obama: "The man now happy to have his Islamic-rooted middle name featured prominently has engaged in the most consequential bait-and-switch since Adolf Hitler duped Neville Chamberlain over Czechoslovakia at Munich."

Gaffney is p.o.'d because Mr. Obama acknowledged his Muslim connections and his middle name now that he's the president?

He's apparently too naive or too stupid to understand presidential politics and should try to spend more time in the adult world rather than in the sandbox he appears to occupy.

Yeah, ain't it awful? They told me if I voted for John McCain we would get a vice-president who couldn't be trusted with giving a simple speech.

And they were right!

Joe Biden is a gaffe machine, to be sure. But I'm guessing you know the difference between putting one's foot in one's mouth, and not being able to engage that mouth with one's brain to express onself, as little Sarah has proved.

I don't know where she attempted to learn English, but when it was being taught, little Sarah was surely absent for the entire semester. Ya know.

I think she's reached her level of incompetence as the governor of the smallest (in population) state in America.

There's a reason she was kept off of the Sunday talk shows during the presidential campaign.

Her handlers knew how uninformed and naive she is vis-a-vis anything not connected with Alaska.

But even when she had to answer a question on a Supreme Court decision that she disagreed with, she couldn't remember one that had been decided just a few months before in July which concerned the Exxon Valdez!

That was a no-brainer.

Good old Frank Gaffney.

Proud member of the 101st Fighting Keyboardist and protege of the odious Richard Perle. Perle of course was brought along by Washington state's late and for many of us not particularly lamented Henry 'Scoop' Jackson. Scoop was also responsible for encouraging the cowardly Paul Wolfowitz. Our 'Senator from Boeing' never met a weapons system or war he didn't like. Likewise Scoop shamefully supported internment of Japanese Americans in WWII.

Through bigots and jingoists like Gaffney and his ilk at the PNAC Scoops legacy sadly endures.

My history is a little rusty here but, I don't remember a vice presidential candidate of a losing ticket ever coming back to win when at the top.

I do take great pleasure in seeing this simple minded fool lead the republican list of presidential candidates though. It's like a contest to see who's shit smells the worst.

Reagan was probably too senile by then to have any idea what his speechwriters were feeding him.

Shaw, Shaw. Still playing the misogynist game of attacking any female who expresses opinions different from that of the herd. A standard leftist bullying tactic.

And if we go back and look at all of, say, Nancy Pelosi's and Sondra Sotermayer's public pronouncements, we'll find that neither ever abused grammar? I think not.

Even your sainted leader, President Obama, is known to speak less than perfectly--that is, when he's not reading it off the screen.

Y'all have a nice day, now!

Shaw Kenawe said...

Good heavens, Gordon, I did not "attack" Palin for giving her opinion. Please.

Go back and read the post. I criticized her witheringly unintelligible syntax--her strange inability to speak coherently in her own language.

Let her say anything she wishes to say, only let her say it so that it makes sense.

She still doesn't know how to do that, and at this point in her life, there's probably not a good chance she ever will.

This is NOT about abusing grammar. Every public speaker makes mistakes in grammar now and then.

Sarah Palin does it ALL THE TIME. She apparently cannot think coherently and this is documented in everything she says that is NOT written by someone else for her.

Her Couric interviews and everything subsequent that was not scripted has been lacking normal clarity and intelligibility in her speech, which is an insight to her intellect.

You don't see her this way at all because you like her.

Only the base thinks she's a viable candidate for president. The rest of the world thinks she's a joke.

Sorry. But that's the truth.

Shaw Kenawe said...

PS. Ms. Sarah uses a teleprompter, as did The Great Communicator, and every president, Republican and Democrat.

And little Sarah did her best speechifying when she was teleprompting and reading someone else's words.

What a weird subject for the right to obsess over as an attack on Mr. Obama.

But we understand the strange and desperate tactics certain people have to resort to when their party is in the wilderness.

Gordon Scott said...

Shaw, you are mistaken. If you're talking about the convention speech, the teleprompter was broken. She didn't use it, because it wasn't on.

Indeed, there was a lot of worry amongst those who knew that fact--but as it turned out, she did quite well without it.

Her answers are no less coherent than one of the president's eight-minute press conference answers. You know, the ones where he can't read it off the screen.

Shaw Kenawe said...

This report doesn't quite agree with what you just posted.

As for your second claim: Only in your Sarah besotted mind, Gordon.

No one else but the true believers in the base believe that silliness.

McCandy screeching about debt is more than a little ironic. When she was mayor of Wasilla -- the meth capital of Alaska, she took a balanced city budget and quickly turned it a $20 million dollar debt.

Like the majority of Repugs, she has no clue how to effectively and efficiently oversee a budget.

If the 400lbs. junkie and pedophile is the brain trust for today's GOP, then McCandy is the foot soldier.

The Repugs deserve her.

Gordon,

In a contest of intellectual rigor between Sarah and Mr. Obama, no rational person is going to choose the Alaska governor over the president.

Ms. Sarah has made it to the pinnacle of her ability--governor of the smallest state [in population] in the Union. She should be proud that her community college [six colleges in 5 years or was it 5 colleges in 6 years] education got her as far as that.

When the American people are looking for leadership, generally they choose the "creme de la creme" and not the pedestrian.

That's not to say people without college degrees aren't smart, but in Sarah's case, we can say that her college education didn't polish her intellect enough to make her shine.

The horror of all this is not that the extremists in the Republican base think she's qualified to be president of the US, but that SHE believes it.

She has no self-reflection and doesn't know what she doesn't know.

That's a sign of an unintelligent person.

Bad news for Gordy:

"Gallup Official: Only 0.5% Say Sarah Palin Speaks For GOP

The new Gallup poll asking people "Who speaks for the GOP" conspicuously did not mention that anyone cited Sarah Palin when answering this question.

Those mentioning Palin might have been lumped into the “other” category, which scored nine percent, Gallup editor-in-chief Frank Newport was asked if he could give me more precise numbers.

Newport said that the percentage who cited Palin is all of … 0.5%.

That means that of the 1,015 national adults who were asked who speaks for the GOP, Newport said, less than five people cited Palin. They rounded up to get the 0.5% figure.

That is an infinitesimal fraction of the amount who said that Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, or Newt Gingrich speak for the GOP.

What makes this striking is that Palin has gotten far more media exposure (though hardly always favorable) than any other prospective 2012 GOP candidate, with the possible exception of Gingrich. Palin is frequently quoted in the media attacking Obama, or doing something that resembles attacking Obama, at any rate. But no one associates her with leadership qualities or sees her as speaking for the party.

“She did not come to Americans’ minds when they were asked this question,” Newport said, delicately."

Gordy is among that "infinitesimal" number who thinks that Palin is a viable candidate.

IOW, he's with the infinitesimal crazies. The rest of the country understands an intellectually challenged loud mouth when it sees one.

It's both amusing & infuriating to hear the governor of the state that receives far more federal largess than we in the lower 48 rail against "socialism."

Palin herself handed out state checks in the amount of $3,600 to every man, woman & child who lived in Alaska, money from oil profits that might have been better saved for state needs.

Anonymous said...

More on Palin the anti-Socialst:

"The funny thing about using the word socialism in this context, who is the most socialistic governor in the United States? That would be Sarah Palin. Alaska survives fiscally because what it does is it taxes the oil companies and then sends a check out to every citizen of Alaska, because the argument is-and actually, I like this argument-the citizens of the state own the wealth, the natural resources of the state collectively, and they all should get a payment back when those resources are exploited by the big bad oil companies. If that's not some form of socialism, I don't know what is.

Hendrik Hertzberg adds details:

The state that she governs has no income or sales tax. Instead, it imposes huge levies on the oil companies that lease its oil fields. The proceeds finance the government's activities and enable it to issue a four-figure annual check to every man, woman, and child in the state. One of the reasons Palin has been a popular governor is that she added an extra twelve hundred dollars to this year's check, bringing the per-person total to $3,269. A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist--Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine--that "we're set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs." Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it ("collectively," no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist."

Yeah, you're right. Only an Idaho-educated chillbilly like Sarah Palin would manage to balance her state's budget and return a healthy surplus to the residents.

Spending trillions on favored supporters and creating a choice between high taxes and crippling deficits versus national bankruptcy and default--now that requires one of them there elite Ivy-league educmacations.

Shaw Kenawe said...

PALIN: "Since when can you get out of huge national debt by creating trillions of dollars of new debt?" Palin asked. "It all really is so backwards and skewed as to sound like absolute nonsense when some of this economic policy is explained."

"We need to be aware of the creation of a fearful population, and fearful lawmakers, being led to believe that big government is the answer, to bail out the private sector, because then government gets to get in there and control it," she said. "And mark my words, this is going to be next, I fear,{WHOOPS! GOV. PALIN IS FEARFUL!] bail out next debt-ridden states. Then government gets to get in there and control the people."

REALITY:

Govenor Palin apparently plans to accept stimulus funding afterall
Posted by Robinson Duffy, on April 28, 2009

Apparently Gov. Sarah Palin will be accepting the federal stimulus funding, including millions of dollars for education, which she had originally said she would not accept.

Here’s the pertinent parts of the press release:

The Palin administration today acknowledged the state legislature’s action to accept economic stimulus funds with passage of House Bill 199, Senate Bill 75, HB81, HB113, and two legislative resolutions supporting receipt of the funds, House Joint Resolution 11 and House Concurrent Resolution 13.

“I have been clear and consistent about my concerns with accepting economic stimulus funds as our nation incurs tremendous debt,” said Governor Palin. “As I am required to certify that stimulus dollars will create new jobs and stimulate the economy, I acknowledge the legislature’s action. And now I must make sure that, by applying for funds that they’ve resolved to accept, we do not grow government but instead put people to work and grow Alaska’s private-sector economy.”

The House and Senate finance committees held nearly 20 public hearings and worked closely with the administration to research aspects of the stimulus bill.

“We provided the public with the opportunity to weigh in and for them to understand the complicated and evolving federal requirements in this package,” Governor Palin said. “My concern remains that we must acknowledge these are one-time, temporary funds, that the federal government is deeply in debt, and that we must borrow money from other countries to fund much of government.”

The legislature agreed with the Governor that these federal funds should be used to generate new private sector jobs and not be used to create new services or programs. HB199 includes intent language to that effect: “The state will not be granting additional funds to continue the programs after the federal aid is exhausted.”

http://www.alaskaedu.net/2009/04/28/govenor-palin-apparently-plans-to-accept-stimulus-funding-afterall/

If the state were in such good shape, why is she accepting some of the bailout funds?

Gordon Scott said...

I think the answer is in your comment: the legislature pretty much mandated it.

Which does not alter the fact that she balanced the budget (in a time when state revenues are bouncing up and down due to fluctuating oil prices) and delivered the surplus to her citizens.

And to correct my earlier comment, it's Judge Sonia Sotomayor, not Sondra. Apparently she is quite the grammar maven, though she believes Spanish has no adjectives.

Shaw Kenawe said...

But Gordon, if you reread what I wrote about Gov. Palin, you would see that I said she probably had risen to her level of (I said incompetence to be snarky) but it's probably as high as her abilities will take her.

By Palin's supports' reasoning, the Mayor of Boston, a city with approximately population of the entire state of Alaska, is qualified to be president of the US--and there are very few Bostonians who would agree with that. His educational experience is about the same as Palin's.

Tom Menino, the first Italian to hold that office, has been the mayor of Boston longer than any other mayor, and the city is doing well and not so well.

That doesn't mean he'd be a great president, nor does Palin's tenure as governor of Alaska mean she could handle all the duties the presidency encompasses.

Your friend's story about the teleprompter at the Republican convention last summer is 2nd hand testimony and would not be admissable in court--especially because it was told by a biased witness. I'd say what happened is probably somewhere in between.

I have heard with my own ears and seen with my own eyes how she handles herself unscripted, and it is excruciatingly awful.

That's the real Sarah Palin.

You are bewitched by her comely looks and winkey-dinkey eyes.

Gordon Scott said...

Oh, I'm bewitched all right, but shoe jokes and winks aside, it's not her looks. She has a commonsense approach to politics, and her perspective is that of a westerner, not an east coast party elitist.

There are an awful lot of folks like me out there, who are rather fed up with the usual suspects (from both parties). Palin may not know her way around the Hahvahd Yahd, or spend much time reading the New York Review of Books, but she knows her way around a budget, and her values appeal to us.

You are a very disturbed person.

James,

I'm sorry about that long comment thread at your blog. The more I tried to engage the female I was talking to, the more the trolls intruded.

I was merely trying to get her to back up her statement with evidence (this was concerning Mr. Obama's Cairo speech) that Mr. Obama was a traitor and a racist.

Each time I tried to get her to do so, she dissembled, and more trolls arrived to defend her and attack me.

I'm done with that crowd. They have no ability to argue or discuss anything on an intelligent level.

JUst keep deleting their comments, and eventually they'll go away.

Peace.

As for Palin's values--I understand you guys like yer, she does have a folksy appeal.

But imagine how you'd feel if a Hahvahad-type denigrated the rest of the country and said "the real America was in Cambridge, Mass."

Palin said some such nonsense while she was running for VP, but because she's golldarn folksy ya betcha type, you guys didn't see that snobby remark as the insult it actually was to every American.

I'm just pointing out that her belief that people like her are the "real Americans" is about as elitist as it gets.

You don't have to have an Ivy League education to be a supercilious snob, as Palin demonstrated.

In the last election, polling revealed that the more education one had, the more likely one would vote for Obama; the less education one had, the more likely one would vote for McCain/Palin.

That's not my opinion, those were stats taken at the time of the election and written about by conservative and liberal pundits.

dmarks said...

The sexist smear present in the "sex goddess" claim is rather blatant. Is it too much to hope for a discussion of Palin that does not bash her for her gender?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Palin was called "Sarah the Barracuda" in high school, and it was supposed to mean that she was a tough competitor. She proudly implied that she was as tough as a pitbull--with lipstick.

And I stand by my opinion that she is an intellectual lightweight, and has reached her level of competence as Alaska governor.

The way she reacted to Letterman's stupidity shows how amateurish she is. A mature candidate would have had her spokesperson give a cold, terse comment about the tasteless jokes, and then be done with it. Instead, she acts like a drama diva and continues the drama by appearing on teevee shows and prolonging the controversy calling more attention to her and her daughter.

I don't know who's advising her, but whomever it is has done her a disservice.

And dmarks, studies have shown that white conservative males liked and voted for Palin more than their female counterparts, and this was attributed to their male fantasies over her sexuality, which she herself promoted shamelessly during the whole campaign.

Not a few conservative men I know talked more about her looks--figure, etc., more than her policies. The conservative men, more than anyone else, saw her as a sex object.

Your disdain should be against them.

I got that email from a distant conservative relative who lives in South Caroline.

It showed Hillary Clinton in the form of a NUT CRACKER.

That sort of bashing happens to ALL WOMEN.

I've been getting it on blogs where I post and on my own for having strong opinions.

I was called a whore by one of them.

Insecure, and often low intelligent, males don't like women who speak their minds.

"I have a question, dmarks. Were you this diligent in defending Mrs. Clinton when conservatives sent an email around the internet showing her as a castsrating woman?"

I didn't hear of that until now. If I had, I would have lit into those who defended that as well. In fact, bofore I read this from you, I was thinking of bringing up the conservative examples on Hillary (cleavage obsession, Limbaugh's thing about the pink dress) as very similar to the sexist statements about Palin.
