THE HOUSE PASSES HEALTH CARE REFORM

House health care bill gets votes needed for passage.

220 members of Congress -- including one Republican, Rep. Joseph Cao of Louisiana -- voted in favor of health care reform, advancing the legislation by the slimmest of margins.

Holy Cao!

And thank you New York #23!!

Thank you Limbaugh and Palin for supporting the losing candidate.

That vote from New York's district #23 was tres valuable!

On to the Senate.

How ironic! Shussh, gotta go ... the press conference is starting ...

I want to celebrate but I don't want to jinx things.. the closer we get, the further we have to go and the more desperate the opposition will get.

Considering they're putting up pictures of Dachau now, I don't even want to imagine how much lower they'll go. (And even though *I* can't imagine anything lower, that doesn't mean they can't.. who would have thought of concentration camp victims equated with healthcare reform?)

I just don't want anything to blow it now. We're so close. This has been my dream since before I was old enough to vote, that everyone in America would have healthcare. If it fails now... it can't fail.

We've only just begun to fight!

yep. great victory in NY #23.

New Jersey and Virginia governors' races didn't impact this very important vote.

the loonies who claim those races were a referendum on Obama's presidency were, as usual, wrong.

The New York #23 vote was the crucial one and the extremely historic one.

It's interesting to note how little influence Palin and Limbaugh have on mainstream voters.

The NJ and Virginia Republican candidates rejected Palin's offer to campaign for them.

Ha! And they won.

But don't tell the crazies about this.

Go Sarah!

Palin/Beck in 2012!

Yeah. That's the ticket!

This bill, if you can really call it that, wreaks of underhandedness and comes from the belly of the beast that was damned by God to crawl on its belly.
STUPIDITY AND CORRUPTION REIGN SUPREME IN OUR LEGISLATURE!!!! Thanks for all the C-Span coverage and internet posting of the vehicle by which this nation will soon be BANKRUPT!!!!!! May the partisan liberals from either party be the first to suffer the negative effects of this monstrosity!!!!!!!!! I hope the house included themselves in this form of bare-bones socialistic 'wait-in-line' coverage! But why would they perform in a manner prescribed by those who voted them into office. A sad day for America and her former freedom!
Goodbye America. I'll miss you.

I heard his name several times on NPR this morning. I'd never heard of him before. Who had? But by making the most unique vote yesterday evening, he is now rather famous.

I think it's not good it only passed by 5 votes. Such an important bill!! Should pass with much bigger majority, don't you think?

Good luck to you all.

Five votes is a massive margin around here! Getting Congress to do anything, let alone move a bill forward is a major event and anything more than one vote is an overwhelming majority!

Just look at the fact that the Fox Channel, which employs O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck, Coulter, and Dick Morris now has given Wanda Sykes her first show....

Of course its at like midnight but that makes fair and balanced...

Actually, it is a different channel than the O'Reilly, Hannity, etc. channel :). She's on the one that gave Michael Moore's "TV Nation" a slot, ages ago.

A step in the right direction. One expects shameless lying and pandering from the GOP but the very nearly perfectly named Stupak turned in a remarkably pathetic performance one again inserting personal religious beliefs where they do not belong.

Still the big coup for the GOP is claiming a clear front runner in Rep. Shadegg for an Emmy for best actor in a comedy. Good for their rather tarnished image.

But, I am so behind times I still read the papers to get my news, if I do watch television for news it will be the BBC...

Unless I am up late then I never miss Jon Stewart....

The rest is just echo chamber chatter....and I include Olbermann and Maddox in that.

Stupak? Sometime's ones religious views lead them to vote to help protect human rights. As happened here, and as happens when members of Congress use their religion's views on charity in order to vote in favor of foreign aid. Or Dr Martin Luther King, who wasn't a Congressman, but he did fight to bring his "personal religions beliefs" into an area some thought they did not belong in. That was what drove his civil rights fight.

-------------------------
Tao: It's two different channels, that's all. The logos? One has one word, the other has 3. I guest that makes them the same... I guess, just as the CBS, ABC, and NBC logos might be the same because all of them share two letters.

Does the fact that CBS, NBC, and CBS all share a C mean that they too are owned by one and the same person?

The thing I've never been able to understand about the abortion issue is, in what way is it a legislative issue? As far as I know, and I’m pretty well informed on this issue, abortion is a medical procedure - it is one that many people disapprove of especially myself. I understand that there is the question of when life begins, but from what I have seen of that debate, it is largely religious in nature. I make no judgement on the faith of others, but why must I be made to pay for others to have a procedure that I do not support.
Please note - I am not trolling, I am legitimately curious as you your (slanted opinion) also I'm not looking for a debate on the morality of abortion, I'm just trying to understand your side of the issue. And I’d like to hear a bit about your principles, as I’m sure you do have some. It would save me and other pro-lifers enormous grief, time, effort, worry, prayers, and money. But until that time, I will keep arguing, because I know that’s what you do best.
Democrats seem to leave whatever principle’s they claim to go by and vote according to the party line. That is why you cannot vote for Democrat politicians - they have no principle’s except to get power and to do whatever their leader tells them to do.

TAO said...

Beth,

If your question is 'why should my tax dollars be used to pay for something I believe is immoral; abortion?"

Well, what would you say if I asked you why should my tax dollars be used to pay for a war that I don't agree to? Or why should my tax dollars be used to pay for a road that I will never drive on?"

Why should my tax dollars be spent to build a bridge in Alaska?

Or bail out Wall Street...which I totally detest and consider immoral?

Its called DEMOCRACY: Where we all agree to support the rule of the majority because we all have the right to participate and voice our concerns and desires and as long as it respects the minority we abide by its decisions?

Look at it this way...

Why should gays pay taxes at all? Their sexual activity is considered disgusting by our government, they cannot serve in the military, and this country really has issue with the fact that crimes against gays might be labelled hate crimes...

Kind of like taxing blacks in the 1950's...they couldn't vote, they couldn't go to equal schools, and the police in large parts of this country beat the shit out of them...

Yet, they paid taxes...

Beth, please. You start off by stating you're not looking for a debate on abortion [which is NOT the subject of this post], then you finish the statement by saying your will continue to argue [debate] because that's what WE do best?

Then you go on to state this:

"Democrats seem to leave whatever principle’s they claim to go by and vote according to the party line. That is why you cannot vote for Democrat politicians - they have no principle’s except to get power and to do whatever their leader tells them to do."

After you stated this:

"And I’d like to hear a bit about your principles, as I’m sure you do have some."

So which is it, Beth? You don't want to debate and then you do?

You believe Democrats have principles, then you don't?

I will not answer your questions because you obviously are confused and don't know how to state your opinion without grossly contradicting yourself.

Also, I find someone who would state that a group of people, Democrats, are all without principles, well I find that person without principles. Why? Because only an unprincipled person, who has no qualms about smearing other people's reputations, would make an outrageous generalization that defames millions of people, including me.

BTW, Beth, if you knew what you were talking about, you'd realize that Democrats do NOT vote in unison. Over 30 House Democrats did NOT support the health care bill. Only ONE House Republican did.

Only ONE Republican Senator voted a health care bill out of committee.

That's how politicians behave when they are told to obey their leaders--They vote in unison, like the Republicans.

This post is not about abortion.

You have your own private blog [where I am not allowed to participate] where you and your friends can discuss abortion and tell each other how unprincipled Democrats are.

Paying for Things You Don't Like

A short list of things, inspired by this nonsense, that I would like to defund because I have moral qualms:

David Vitter's health care

The electricity, copy paper and intern hours devoted to producing a resolution honoring Rush Limbaugh

Both wars

Wars in general

Especially wars the public has decided it's had enough of

War profiteering

Rape Gurney Joe Lieberman's health care

Freedom Fries

Seriously, the Congressional cafeterias. It should only serve that which is served to the poorest public schoolchildren in DC. Anything fancier is unconscionable.

I don't know where we got this idea, probably from the glibertarian crowd, that we govern like you order fast food. You don't have to pay for anything you don't like! Well, guess what? You'll be eating your fucking hash browns because I want my McChicken and you'll motherfucking like it. We all have to pay for things we don't like, things we consider objectionable, things we have deep moral qualms about.

I don't know when abortion became the only issue about which you could have moral reservations, either. Got moral reservations about the war? Shut up, hippie. Moral reservations about whether the state can force a woman to bear a child against her will? We'd better respect your point of view lest we look compassionless. This isn't even my pro-choice talking, it's my bullshit detector going off.

Looks to me like there are lots of things the government penalizes us for if we don't follow the script.

I wouldn't worry about the Senate...Lieberman has been a very early proponent for universal health care and he was one of the biggest backers of GWB's prescription drug program...

Now, his wife works for a firm that provides lobbying services to quite a few of the pharma companies but realistically his position right now is just a bargaining position because obviously he is trying to get commitments on something involving Israel and or Iraq...

Once he gets what he wants he will get behind the public option and the bill will pass by Christmas...

You have a pretty good point there. Similarly, while we are at it, let's cut Congressional pay by $20,000+ per year or so (which still leaves them rich), and in return offer them free housing in DC's public housing.

What, the public housing there is unlivable? Well, whose fault is that? They run it!

Well, get this, I am an African American female who thinks for myself. I hate the stimulus package, big government and the huge deficit that the Democrats expect me, my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to pay for their socialist agenda. Furthermore, I have never given Rush Limbaugh ten seconds of my time and never will. I never ger persuaded by a TV or raido show. That being said, the arguments set forth by the liberals are full of holes among other things. Unfortunately, there are Americans who are not as bright as the rest of us, but I am sure it will hit home. Everyday many are less and less enamored with our smooth talking President. It is just a matter of time before eyes wide shut open. I participated in a on Saturday 2/28/09. It was mt 1st Protest March and I actually felt good knowing there were others out there. Like me I conclude my thoughts with Yelling at Your Television or Radio will never change anything! You need to participate in order to make things change. I have been reading this posters blog for a while now although I have never posted my own comments here. I have to say that I feel she has a problem with anyone that opposes her point of view. This girlfriend is not very American. How about opening your blind eyes and looking at what is good and what is not good for America instead of just cheering for your side to win. If you get the chance to be fair and balanced you will easily see that Mr. Obama is not good for America. He does not have the America first attitude as a US president should. He is not going to Berlin, he is not going to Ft. Hood, he only goes to a event where it will do “HIM” good, not America.
When the Ft. Hood shooting was so obvious, why is he saying not to rush to judgement? Is there any doubt about this persons guilt! Maybe he should turn the investigation over to Barney and the ACORN. His concern is more about a backlash against Muslim then about American’s safety.
I am deeply disappointed….I feel that our country has made a conscious decision to fundamentally change many of the principles that have made our great nation prosper over the past year, as well as the principles it has now adopted..

Stop right there, Ms. Shonda V.

You cannot have been reading this blog AT ALL if you typed that. A good many people who post here are Republicans/Conservatives/Libertarians who feel comfortable in arguing against what I say or who offer their own points of view.

That's your first misstatement.

Shonda V. typed: This girlfriend is not very American.

That is your second misstatement and the ususal rightwing libel thrown at anyone who disagrees with its PoV. I'm as American as you, Shonda V., with my own American opinions. How dare you impugn my patriotism because I don't conform to your ideas? My suggestion is that you grow up and learn that opposing points of view are not unAmerican.

People who cast aspersions on other people's patriotism are the ones who are "...not very American."

Shonda V.: "How about opening your blind eyes and looking at what is good and what is not good for America instead of just cheering for your side to win. If you get the chance to be fair and balanced you will easily see that Mr. Obama is not good for America."

I believe health care reform is GOOD for America. This is a blog with a Progressive PoV--it says so in its title, and everywhere else. Who asked you to come here and try to change it? I'm tired of people like you who regularly come here to scold me about what I should post. Are you not aware of all the biased, anti-Obama rightwing blogs out there that continually bash this administration? I suggest you visit them. You won't see me intruding on their Obama bashing and telling them what's fair and what is not.

Also when you make this statement "...Mr. Obama is not good for America." you are stating your own biased opinion and nothing else.

Shonda V.: "He does not have the America first attitude as a US president should. He is not going to Berlin, he is not going to Ft. Hood, he only goes to a event where it will do “HIM” good, not America."

Misstatement #3? or #4, I'm losing count. If you're going to complain about the president, shouldn't you at the very least have your facts to back up your statements? You've done none of that here.

President Barack Hussein Obama and Mrs. Obama are going to Ft. Hood on Tuesday to attend the memorial service, he has ordered all flags in America to fly at half staff in respect to the murdered soldiers.

BTW, Shonda V., anyone on these comment sections on these blogs can pretend to be anyone they choose.

I'm not convinced you are who you say you are. Your prose is curiously similar to regular trolls who come here and, instead of discussing the subject, bash Mr. Obama.

You've added absolutely nothing to this discussion, and made yourself look somewhat foolish for all your errors.

ICH BIN BESCHÄFTIGT

Translation: I AM BUSY.

Senator (Rock Star) Barack Hussein Obama conducted a love fest in Berlin shortly before the U.S. Presidential election.

But now that he's the President of the United States, he's not attending any of the celebrations Monday, November 9th, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The leader of the free world is way, way too busy to celebrate freedom.

The German press is now chastising Obama, using "I'm busy" as the headline in articles reporting on the cowardly no-show.

Baghdad Bob is saying that there's not time for Obama to attend the Festival of Freedom in Berlin on Monday because he's preparing for a trip to Asia.

He's also saying that Obama doesn't want to do anything to insult Russia because he's been working so hard to cultivate a relationship with that nation.

Huh?

President Dmitry Medvedev will be representing Russia at the Festival of Freedom, you idiot. Prime Minister Gordon Brown will be representing England and President Nicolas Sarkozy will be representing France.

But President Barack Hussein Obama will not be representing the U.S.

He's delegating that job to Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Translation: Sloppy seconds.

And don't think for a minute that Obama's attendance at the Festival of Freedom was a last-minute request.

Ass for his SUDDEN change of heart and change of plans to go to Fort Hood, he did so ONLY because of the heat he was getting when he announced that he would be at Camp David at that time.. (Vacationing).
Yes, Obama's posse has announced he will go to Fort Hood next week. Not because he wants to, but because he was shamed into it. Shameful and Disgusting.

President Obama’s Schedule

11:25AM THE PRESIDENT addresses the House Democratic Caucus - Cannon House Office Building

2:30PM THE PRESIDENT makes a statement to the press on Health Care - Rose Garden

2:45PM THE PRESIDENT and THE FIRST LADY depart The White House en route Camp David -

It Matters Not to Him That the Soldiers Were Killed at Ft. Hood, and He Handles this Whole Situation like It’s just another Photo Op. Never mind the families who have been devastated by the loss of their sons/daughters.

Update: Obama now plans to visit Ft. Hood Tuesday for the memorial service. We're glad he could squeeze it in sometime this week, just to show how much he cares.

Maybe you didn’t or you don’t wish to admit it. But it did NOT include going to the Fort Hood memorial service at first. But has changed his “scheduling”. After the out cry.

Obama snubs Ft. Hood to relax at Camp David
Sat, 07 Nov 2009 18:26:31 GMT Dan Riehl checks the President's schedule and learns that Obama's not going to Fort Hood, but rather to Camp David for the weekend. Maybe the real reason for his NOT going was because he was asked NOT TO COME. The Soldiers, Marines and Airmen don't want Obama any where near them. They despise the man and are waiting very impatiently for us to replace him

And once again your insulting, name calling, school-girl temperament is showing. You are a fine example of talking about “skewed beliefs” when your blog is full of “CRAP” that only a true Liberal Anti freedom of expression and speech can display.
We just suffered one of the biggest Islamic jihad terrorist attack on our homeland and our Commander in Chief tells us not to rush to judgment! His he kidding?
Let see now Obama went to Germany and refused to see the wounded at the military hospital, but played Basketball instead. Screw the troops. He can't go to Ft. Hood. Can't go to the Berlin Wall. Can't make a decision on any part of our wars. Waits “so far” over 75 days to decide about if he should or should not fill the request of HIM General in Afghanistan. But, ah yes, he does have time to golf with Tiger Woods, to go on several vacations, go on a date with his Dearest Michelle almost every Saturday night flying all over the world and costing us millions. Take Oprah and 2 plane loads of his “people” to Copenhagen, and look foolish. And now he's going to Camp David just to rest up, what for his next vacation. the real problem is this punk can't stand in the shadow of our real hero's. Its like garlic to Dracula. Actually if given the chance most of these soldiers would piss on his leg. but, their far better than "the one" who only believes is in those who bow before him. first I want to see the results of 2010. If it turns out to our favor he is dead meat, of course he now he just doesn’t see it.

You defend this guy and you have the pathetic nerve to talk about Glenn Beck or George Bush who was already there without the “PHOTO-OP” Sure lets boycott Glenn Beck who DID have the nerve to expose the Communists in the White House.
