A CLARIFICATION FROM MITT ROMNEY

A Clarification from Mitt Romney

About Poor People

LA JOLLA, CA – Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney today released the following letter to the American people:

Dear American People:

Yesterday, comments I made about poor people made me look terrible. This always seems to happen when I say what I really believe.

The fact is, I do care about poor people. That’s because I’m poor myself, when you compare me to Mark Zuckerberg.

According to most projections, Facebook’s IPO should net Mr. Zuckerberg a personal fortune of $28 billion. I couldn’t make a pile of dough-re-mi like that even if I fired people twenty-four hours a day.

Now, let’s take a look at Mitt Romney’s net worth: a measly $200 million. Now do you see why I consider myself poor? Compared to Mark Zuckerberg, Mitt Romney is practically living in a cardboard box.

Now, I’m not going to sit here and envy a rich person like Mark Zuckerberg. That’s exactly what President Obama wants poor people like me to do. Mark Zuckerberg made his money fair and square, by creating useful products like imaginary sheep and angry birds. Say what you will about Facebook, it has totally revolutionized the way we waste our lives.

The fact is, if you’re poor in America, you should do what Mark Zuckerberg did: create a social network. I’ve just started my own, called TwoFaceBook. With TwoFaceBook, your profile doesn’t stay the same for more than two seconds.

In closing, there’s one more reason I don’t worry about poor people. They have Groupons.

Vote for me,

Mitt Romney

Remember when Rmoney kicked off his campaign to seek the GOP presidential nomination and he dishonestly used a quote from the then candidate Obama who was ACTUALLY QUOTING JOHN McCAIN about not wanting to talk about the economy because he would lose?  When everyone agreed that was deceitful, the Rmoney campaign came back and defended the use of the mendacious video by saying in politics everything is fair.

Now that unscrupulous tactic is coming back to bite them in their perfidious arses.

We can now count on the Democrats using the Rmoney campaign's own technique--showing a Rmoney video out of context [all's fair, y'know]--and hearing the multi-multi-millionaire GOP guy with several homes, a 14% tax rate, and off-shore bank accounts who wants to be president say:

'I'm Not Concerned About The Very Poor'

That'll go over well with every working class American--the 99 percenters--and people doing even worse than they are.

You're off to a great start, Mitt.  BTW, Marie Antointte called, she wants her cake back.

Anyone who heard, and actually LISTENED to Mittens realizes his was remark was that he was not concerned about the poor because of the safety net. He said he would fix the safety net as well.

Immediately after he said it I knew the progressive spin machine, the progressive blogs, left leaning media, and of course the campaign of our heralded president would pounce on it like stink on s*it.

It's disingenuous, and ultimately it won'r work. And I don't even like Mittens BTW.

Jerry Critter said...

He cares so much that he is a supporter of Paul Ryan's proposals to weaken, if not destroy, that very safety net. His statement is true. He does not care about the very poor!

RN, you completely missed the point of my blogpost.

When Rmoney started his campaign for the nomination, he ran an ad from the 2008 campaign that took what Mr. Obama said COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTEXT. Mr. Obama was quoting John McCain on not talking about the economy because then he'd loose, and it appeared by the ad that it was Mr. Obama saying it, because IT WAS TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT.

The Rmoney people defended using it and said all's fair in political campaign.

You missed this point completely, which is now Romeny's people should STFU over having their guy's words taken out of context, since they essentially told the Dems to stuff it when they complained.

I knew this would happen, since Rmoney has a habit of being tone deaf and saying wrong-headed things.

I'm not condoning it; I'm showing how Rmoney's people set themselves up for this. Now they can suck it up.

shaw, you're in cahoots with newt!

I guess this was taken out of context like the 57 state comment was?

Les Carpenter said...

No Shaw, I find't. Look, I don't particularly care for Mittens. I just think this is, as it should be, a non starter.

It is time, bur what does anyone know for sure these days?

A observation.

Joe "Truth 101" Kelly said...

You're wrong RN. Mitt had a freudian slip. Then he tripped all over himself trying to explain it away.

And the "social safety net" answer was invented by your pal Ron Paul.

It's bullshit all the way. This is an example of class warfare being waged by Romney. He's trying to pit the poorest against the middle class with this crap of his.

He won't fix the safety net as he has no clue what it is.

Shaw Kenawe said...

billy! You found me out!

Lisa, you cling to your 57 states nonsense because it reinforces your prejudice. Keep it and embrace it if it gives you a tingle up your leg.

But, you're embarrassingly wrong.

RN, it's a bit difficult to understand your comment, since I think Blogger messed it up.

TRUTH, does Willard really think we belive he "cares" about poor people when he makes more in one day than an average american makes in a year?

Mitt is the ultimate elitist candidate, and the GOPers are twisting themselves into pretzels to change the subject.

Les Carpenter said...

Right truth whatever...

I can't understand why RN, Lisa, or anyone gives Mittens any benefit of the doubt. The man is simply the Leonard Zelig of American politics, saying ANYTHING that ingratiates him to any crowd. It goes far beyond a million flip flops on the beach; no one truly knows what the real Mitt Romney is all about (and how can you trust any man that morphs on a dime). So-called Freudian slips may be the only truth this man is capable of uttering, and the latest remark I take a face value.

Romney does have a knack for saying things that require his supporters to go out afterwards and say "Yes, but what he meant was....."

Not a good sign.

Les Carpenter said...

Shaw- Naw, smart phone I'm using.

Les Carpenter said...

Romney I do not support, but whatever. All is fair in politics.

Shaw Kenawe said...

"[Romney] really can’t complain about being taken out of context. Why? Because one of his very first TV ads took President Obama out of context (quoting him as saying back in ‘08, “If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose” – when Obama was actually quoting a McCain aide). You reap what you sow… [A]s for the quote IN CONTEXT, it is a little less bad but still awkward, frankly.

Alex Burns adds:

Romney's campaign didn't just take Obama's words out of context and hope viewers wouldn't notice. They argued that the ad was in-bounds as a form of tough politics aimed at contrasting Obama's message four years ago with Obama's message today. Even if you find that argument persuasive, you have to wonder at this point whether it was really worth giving up the right to complain about context in a very long campaign."

Shaw snopes? I don't belive them anymore than Media Matters

"All is fair in politics."

Where there is privilege, there is no fairness - thanks to the Citizens United decision that equates money with free speech and confers personhood status to corporate entities. The more money you have, the louder your voice, and free speech for some no longer means free speech for all.

Some animals have become more equal than others.

Lisa said...

saying ANYTHING that ingratiates him to any crowd

Like Obama invoking Jesus in tax talk? Yet supported partial birth abortion. Yeah nothing hypocritical there right Octops?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Lisa,

You wrote in my comment section on the Susan B Komen post that abortions cause breast cancer.

I gave you two reliable sources, the American Cancer Society, and Wikipedia, which listed these organizations:

World Health Organization,[6] the U.S. National Cancer Institute,[7][8] the American Cancer Society,[9] the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists,[10] and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.[11

as stating that there is no medical scientific proof of any connection between abortions and breast cancer.

On Sue's blog "Helloooo Mr. President..." you left a comment in which you claim Mr. Obama wrote this:

" 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

Will the real racist please stand up. Obama's words not ours"--Lisa

I produced evidence that proved Mr. Obama never wrote nor stated those words, but in fact, they were the words taken from an article in The American Conservative. I produced evidence and links to discredit your claim.

Now you come here and say you don't believe Snopes (BTW I didn't use Snopes to discredit your "abortion causes breast canceer" claim, I used the American Cancer Society as well as others.) But I did use Snopes to discredit your smear on Mr. Obama.

You have also, in the past, stated you don't believe in FactCheck.org.

Lisa, you're the one with the truth problem, not I.

When I produce evidence to refute your smears and misrepresentations, you brush it off saying you don't believe my sources. But here's where no one takes you seriously and, I'm afraid, laughing at you:

You NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER produce any evidence whatsoever to support your claims.

Unless you can do so, I am asking you to stop coming here and posting nonsense, as you did with the "abortion causes breast cancer" lie.

I've tried to be reasonable with you, and all I get is this lousy copying and pasting misrepresentation and deceit.

I repeat myself when I say that when you continue this behavior, you show everyone here and at Sue's that conservatives are dumb at best, and liars at worst.

I don't think you want that.

Shaw Kenawe said...

I forgot to include another site: Truthorfiction that also refutes your smear on Mr. Obama.

How many more sites do you need to see before you have the courage to say you were wrong in passing along that vicious lie about the president without bothering to see if it was correct.

You know what decent people say about those who engage in malicious calculation to harm another's reputation, don't you?

Lisa said...

Hey Shaw I found this for you
lol

Lisa said...

So these are true. Something like his "typical white grandmother"

I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites."-Truth!

There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white."-Truth!
---he'd said himself that was a problem."

It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names."-Truth!

Lisa, taking those quotes out of context is dishonest. But you seem to thrive on that.

No one with an IQ over 50 takes out-of-context quotes as representative of what a person's credo is.

For example, listen to what the GOP nominee for the presidency said!

Here are the exact words from Mr. Romney's mouth:

"We should just raise everybody's taxes."

"There's nothing unique about the United States."

"Fiscal responsibility is just heartless and immoral."

Government knows better than a free people how to guide an economy."

"Let us just raise your taxes some more, we just need a little bit more."

"America is just another nation with a flag."

Mitt Romney uttered every one of those statements!

Now stop your foolish games.

we are going to need alot more to pay for this job killing,GDP sucking health care bill. CBO said in 3 years the federal tax rate is going up 30% . Looks like Obama will ave his European style government, just like he really wants, not what he pretends he wants.
and if you think the rich will be able to cover all that think again.
I know Mitt is a Rino but if he's the front runner I have to support him. I am banking on a majority house and senate to make us more successful like they did with Clinton.

Jerry Critter said...

Lisa, my dear. You should love the health care bill. It is a gift of millions of new clients to the insurance industry and not one new client to the government. It is an industry take over of health insurance for everyone under 65.

Octo - First I generally shy away from the use of the word fair as it is too subjective. However, with respect to politics I find the use of it quite apt. Especially in this day and age.

As to your mention of Citizens United... upon a great deal of reflection some time back I changed my initial position on the issue. In fact the only contributions acceptable should be by identifiable individuals and capped at $1,000.00. Corporations are not people. So, they should be allied to lobby thier position absent contributions.

Anyway, truth and integrity in politics has a long way to go. Seems we're moving backwards as often as we are moving forward. Perhaps more often.
